Wasn't the leveling system supposed to be upgraded by now?

This was a huge deal back when the game first launched. Leveling was based on random challenges that didn’t make sense to the overall flow of gameplay. 343 made a temporary fix by adding a permanent “play a game” challenge, but people still wanted to see a system based on overall game performance rather than random busywork.

Now I’m back in season 2 and…it’s still here. Wasn’t there supposed to be a rework or something here? Or are we just considering this the permanent system now? If so I’ve got a whole other list of complaints about what’s in place.

I’m asking because leveling still seems slow. I mainly play team slayer and as someone who has a full time job and other responsibilities I don’t really have the time to play 1000 games just to get all the items in the pass. I could go and play a few other game modes, but then I’d be playing modes that I don’t want to play. I am here to have fun after all.

Nowadays for almost any game if you want to level up you need to treat playing the game like a part-time job, that’s why there is the option to just pay your way to the top. Fortunately, the game is not pay to win., but that’s only because the Halo armour was never designed to give players in-game advantages, which I’m sure the top brass is trying to find a way around, just call me cynical. The leveling system is painfully slow though, especially when it drops to dishing out 50xp, a deliberate slow-you-down tactic. As others have said there should be extra XP for being the best in the match and second and third, killing streaks, we get medals there should be a bit of XP attached, it would make people happy, and I think 343 should be going out of their way to earn some happiness credit.
