I already saw way too many players spending more than 100€/$ in the game so, yeah, I’m pretty sure 343i know what they’re doing.
I have no doubt we will have a better system but 343i need all the money they can get from the most generous players before they improve the Battle Pass.
That’s actually a real negotiation strategy, OP. First make a wild offer that will immediately get declined, and follow it up with another high offer that’s lower than the first offer. The idea is that it makes the counter offer appear far more reasonable than it actually is. Simply put, of course this is all intentional.
Personally I think this is exactly what is happening. The prices in the store, the rate of progression, the cost of the battlepass, they were all set up this way because they knew that while there would be pushback, a lot of people who still buy things in the store at these crazy prices, and when they then took a suit of armor from $20 to $15 they would be the “good guys” “listening to community feedback” and nobody would be like “wait this is worth maybe a tenth of what you’re asking.”
I think they were very aware based on testing and the flights that progression would not be received well, but they chose to move forwards anyways because they knew that A: many people who spend lots of money skipping levels and buying things at these prices, and B: since they decided to delay season 2 until may they need to keep progression slow or people will run out of content to unlock and stop playing before season 2.
I think similar decisions were made with the campaign, they knew that if co-op and forge weren’t included at launch many would still buy the game because they didn’t want it spoiler, or were just eager to play. Of course they would never have considered shifting priority from the store items etc. to things they promised (like co-op,) because then they would lose day one store sales.
343 knows this system is bad, but many people who don’t participate in this forums and are not part of the online Halo community madness will buy the cosmetics and spend money on the game without problem. This will get them enough money in this first stage so they can improve the system afterwards and make it more reliable for the game to last long. This is no secret as we know the game has so few weapons and vehicles, maps and game modes right now and will eventually be added back to the game.
risky, but not entirely unheard of. if it came out that they did, and it was provable, a lot of people would drop them entirely. however I think its more likely that the suits in charge expect the people who complain to piss off so the people with rosy glasses can spend their savings on another crappy looking armor set.
Even if an insider came out and said they did it they would just deny deny deny.
I’m probably going to drop the game entirely after the campaign unless it completely blows my mind. I cannot believe I bought an xsx for this.
yyeaah buying a new console for a game and then it being sub par for you sucks.
they could deny it all they want, if even a halfway decent source said they found proof, it would explain too much to be wrong. but then again there are definitely quite a few people who would defend 343 tooth and nail, for better or worse.
no, that’s stupid, it’s a risky business decision. It’s all about the money, and what they can charge. “Free to play” is a dangerous phrase these days, you just gotta read the tiny line, there’s always a catch. Unless you care that much about cosmetics, the game is fun regardless.
Regret, regret, regret.
I am a huge Halo fan and was really hoping for a great experience all around.
I will say that the prosthetic customization is cool.
I think this game is so extremely close to being exactly what I want from halo. but I believe that halo 3 and more so reach put in the expectation of customization from the games, and it not really being there yet is very disappointing to me. I also feel like weapon choice is lacking severely.
but yeah those prosthetics are pretty sweet. just wish you could choose which aesthetic you wanted.
I don’t think it is 100% on purpose. But honestly, I worked out the math of doing the minimum weekly challenges and it would take you 5 months to finish the season. And it was originally meant to be 3 months.
Its probably more so seeing how much they can get away with while maintaining a healthy player base. By making the core gameplay loop as fun as it is they have been able to get a large audience to try out the game and now they are seeing what players are willing to spend money on.
We will probably see in like a years time a very different store front, one that targets players interests more. Meaning if players continue to buy armour bundles we will see more of armours on sale or if the skins and VFX take off we may see them take over the majority of the storefront and armour drop in price or even become unlockable through timed events.
Right now it just depends on what people are willing to put up with and the best way to show them you wont stand for something is just not to buy into it. The more people who stop buying into thing that were free or better in other games the more likely they are to change their approach to selling those things.
I made a post similar to this this a while back but got bombarded with 343 diehards defending the game telling me I didn’t know what I was talking about.
In my opinion, yes. They definitely made the game an absolute grind fest with everything (except a TON of challenge swaps, some coatings, and visors) all locked behind a paywall on purpose.
The season is supposed to last AAAALLLL the way to May, they’re undoubtedly doing all this that way the Battlepass will actually last for 6 whole months.
Look, sorry for sounding so negative, but a whole company worth of employees thought that a lot of the designs and systems in this game were a good idea. They genuinely sat down and thought, “players will really like this, this, and that”, and that’s really scary tbh.
Yes, I 100% think this, 343 mocked fans for not liking the REQ system back when they made that insanely insulting Mister Chief ad. It’s clear 343 hasn’t learned much from Halo 5, at least not the people who worked on Infinite did anyway.
The MCC team is honestly the only team at 343 I trust, and only when it comes to MCC updates.
