I seen in the old halo 3 trailer skirmishes that it’s actually in Mombasa but the second battle of it. I know the first battle Chief takes part in it but is there any book lore explaining this battle after cheif left besides ODST? I always was interested in the aftermath and different perspectives in the battle.

Nothing in the books per say but… we know that resistance carries on beyond Chief per H3: ODST. After that… nothing official but… small pockets at least can be assumed
We really don’t have any solid sources on what takes place during the battle outside of the game. What we can assume however from what Halo 3: ODST shows us is, that immediately following the departure of the Prophet of Regret, UNSC forces were still actively fighting for the city.
We can assume that with the arrival of the Brute Fleet and a second wave of Covenant forces being deployed to the city, that the local UNSC forces were quickly overwhelmed. By the end of the day it appears that local UNSC forces either retreated from the city, or were wiped out entirely.

Well the Lootcrate data drops (more specifically the second one) said a 3rd battle of mombasa happened during Halo 3.
So we know the 2nd happened.

First Battle: Outskirts, Metropolis, all of Halo 3 ODST
Second Battle: Believe trailers, during the Battle of Delta Halo

The third battle is actually off-screen. More stuff that happens when John-117 does the Tsavo Highway and The Storm levels.
