Assault was a very fun game type. (It did sort of lack in Reach though)
Who else remembers 1 bomb on Zanzibar… or 1 bomb on Headlong… or 1 bomb on Relic! (OH the good times are flashing by)
Anyways… any reason for the cut??
I haven’t heard anything… but I’m willing to bet they took it out just so people couldn’t recreate classic CTF using a sort of reverse bomb game mode. tinfoil hat (I’m pretty jaded about the COD CTF changes)
I barely remember playing Assault in Reach, but I do remember playing it in Halo 3, and those were some fun times, especially 2 bomb on Valhalla. Oh boy.
I fully expect this gamemode to come back in a title update, if possible.

There is no official reason. But I think that 343 felt dominion used the defense/attack type feature in a more interesting way then assault did. Thats just what I think, they essentially took assult, invasion, and territories to create dominion.

It hasn’t been confirmed or even discussed, but it is highly possible that older gametypes may return in the future, post launch.
It is worth noting that Grifball is essentially just Assault, you can change the settings to your hearts desire to recreate it, although, you can’t disable ball throwing.

I don’t know if it was confirmed, but because they’re packing so much stuff into the game, they removed some of the lesser played objectives, like Assault. Not saying it was bad, or that there weren’t awesome things done with Assault, just overall it was one of the least played objective types.
But yes, they did mention that they plan on adding some more things into Halo 4. People tend to forget that this is 343’s FIRST game, and although I don’t agree with everything that they’ve done. But the time and effort put into the game, and the fact that this is their trial run make me give them a small break. I’ll wait until I play the game a bit before I start being as judgmental as most the people on these forums haha.

Which is an important and new gametype, no matter how you feel about it.
Because Grifball is a fan-loved gametype. Who doesn’t love Grifball? Although, I will admit, Halo 4 starts out with very little gametypes, but that is why we have title updates. Question, is there Rumble Pit or any sort of FFA in Halo 4? I looked at the Halo 4 guide, but forgot whether it was in there or not.
My only guess is how one sided a game of assault can become. Once you get them trapped on spawn you can have your whole team surround the bomb and ensure not a soul touches it. Zanzibar is a prime example. Don’t take this as me agreeing with their decision… Assault was one of my all time favorite halo game types.

you CANNOT recreate assault with griffball. only neutral bomb. and you cant defuse the bomb. and you cant disable the waypoint on “grif”.
i’m sure there are more problems but thats where i gave up.
