One of the main reasons a lot of old time Halo fans I know were SO excited for Halo 4 was the fact that it was the return of the Chief and the trusty Battle Rifle. For some reason, because the BR was back, a lot of people thought it was going to be just like old times and that the MP would be amazing since it would be full of nostalgia.
The game has been out for a bit over a month and the DMR is by far the most used weapon because it outclasses the BR in every way. Most casuals use it, just about every pro uses it, its dominant.
That makes me wonder… was the return of the BR just a way for 343 to lure old time fans? Using nostalgia as a means to get higher sales numbers?
To be honest, I think the only reason people use the BR is to purposely use something other than the DMR because it “ruined Reach” and they hate everything about it. Those people probably think in their head when playing: “The BR is good, the BR is good” but in the back of their heads, they know it’s not.
> It kinda seems that way but I honestly doubt people would spend $60 for a BR on H4.

Yeah, that’s what I meant. People linked the BR with Halo 2/3 and envisioned classic Halo which is why they were hyped.
In a sense yes it was. When I first saw the trailer to Halo 4 when it was first announced, I thought "Holy hell man 343i will make Halo great again with the Chief, and all the old things that made Halo especially Halo 3 great.
What I came to realize by now is that 343i has unfortunately become like the rest of the companies out there. They focus on making there game look good from the package you see it in. They focus on demos and trailers while ignoring the communities request of a beta.
It’s all about advertisement and since many people have spent their money on this game, 343i doesn’t have to do jack ---- for you. They can make Halo 5, make a bunch of false promises, and make the game look amazing through demos and trailers but still have a crappy game.
That’s mostly why I don’t like sequel titles like Halo 4 or Battlefield 4(When it comes out) I’d prefer a game that works like an MMO like Planetside 2 but that’s just me.
If 343i waited for 3 more months or instead had a beta before release. I think that the game would’ve turned out better.
So far I’m glad that Bungie’s done with Halo and I hope that Bungie does not act like how it did when making Reach.
They brought back the BR for a number of reasons including the fact that this is halo 4 so they brought most weapons from H3. Also, fans complained it wasnt in the game for Reach, it would bring more weapon variety (at for starts and people do use it, there are maps i prefer it), to bring back fans, and probably more reasons. Its a good gun and I am glad its in game. I do use the DMR more as most people but I also find on kill cams that quite a bit of players who are good are using the BR.
Eh i dont know the only reason i got halo 4 was because i was thinking it would be a spiritual successor to halo 3. Boy was i wrong, and when i played mm i used the br, i didnt do to bad with it but i could tell it was under powered. The dmr outclasses it in almost every situation.

It seems 343 listens to those darn Reach lovers more than anyone else.

It’s quite possible. I’m only using the BR for its commendation. I’ve already mastered the DMR, so I’ve moved onto the BR.
I’m so tired of losing 1v1s because my opponent was using a DMR and I was using a BR in close-mid range combat.

yes and no, they wanted the game to succeed, but with only a DMR "classic"halo players would feel offended, and with just a BR they might turn off people who liked it.
I think that old Halo fans were gonna buy the game even if it didn’t have the BR, but maybe I’m wrong. It’s just hard to imagine a longtime fan of a great franchise suddenly dump it because a weapon that has only been in 2 out of the first 5 shooters (not counting CEA) wasn’t in the next game.
I agree, but veen storywise the disappearence of the BR would’ve been a breach of canon. not to mention people whining about it being gone all of the sudden.
