I was looking over the history of the San’Shyuum on one of the wiki’s earlier, and the article on their home world Janjur Qom, said it’s possible they lied about the destruction of their home world. My question is, is it possible that this could be the case? And why would they? Any ideas?
I’d suggest using the search function as there have been a few threads regarding this.
Short Answer: Yes there is a decent chance that they is still around, why would they keep it a secret? Well if the poo ever hit the fan they would certainly need a place to hide. They also have clear evidence on the surface that the Forerunners were their enemies, which would threaten their claim to religious authority.
However, we do know that the star was pretty unstable. But I doubt the Librarian would return a species that she viewed with such potential back to a planet that ran the risk of being exterminated within 99,000 years.
1)If the star was unstable why would the Librarian place the San’Shyuum on Janjur Qom?
2)The Bestiarum notes that they could have lied.
3)No star goes nova that fast.
4)When the San’Shyuum declared Janjur Qom as a victim to a stellar collapse many in the covenant viewed this with suspicion but little was done to dispute it according to canon fodder.
I don’t know about the resent history of their home world but it is used in the book Halo Broken Circle. In the book it describes that the profits had a civil war over weather to use or to just warship the forerunner artifacts. They lost and left aboard a forerunner dreadnought. This is the same ship which was positioned in the center of the covenant holy city. In the book a profit goes to his home world to bring back genetic candidates to strengthen their gene pool.
I’m pretty sure Janjur Qom is still intact because 343 wouldn’t waste such an interesting potential setting in halo lore.
It’s most likely still around, knowing just how devious the San’Shyuum are I wouldn’t be in the slightest bit surprised if they were lying the whole time just so the other species didn’t learn too much about them and their origins.
Sounds like good theories, so, could we end up going there in a future halo game? Because I think that there could be some very interesting pieces of forerunner tech lying around on the planet.
