Was the old outro better?

The Halo 5 beta was a very different animal from the game we know today. In my opinion, just about everything has improved in the game since the beta was out.

Except.

The outro cinematic.

I don’t even know if I can choose which one I prefer.

The outro now consists of your team standing and gazing into the distance.
The old outro (as seen in this video by Greenskull) showed the team of Spartans celebrating and high fiving each other.

These two cinematics give off two very different vibes.

  • The current one highlights the almost machinelike part of the Spartans. They show little emotion, which honestly isn’t a bad thing. - The old one highlights the humanlike side of the Spartans. They celebrate together having overcome another team of tough enemies.
I’m not too big on the giant “R” or “B” in the background, but I really like the old outro otherwise.

I would like to see the old outro added back into the Breakout playlist. I find that it really suits the mood of Breakout better than anything else. It wouldn’t really work in BTB or Slayer or Strongholds, but it would be nice to see it return in Breakout

Which one of these do you prefer

I like the new ending animation better. I don’t mind seeing the Spartans show a more human side, being Spartan-IVs and all, but the Beta animations made them look like -Yoink-holes.

Basically this.

Almost nobody liked the “show-off” aminations . It was pretty much childish and pathetic, as we already have enough post-game banter to go around.

For us plebs without mics, it is nice to have a way to rub it in that one annoying team’s face when you win…

Although I do see what you mean about it being kinda annoying…

I don’t really have a preference on this matter. I am pretty much neutral. They both have pros and cons.

Well, you can always do this to the annoying team if they try to trash talk you/do stupid stuff.

Beyond that, nothing else is needed. The new outro looks more professional IMO. (However, The old intro was better in my opinion, as it showed the team’s logo. Nothing major, obviously, but I wished that stayed in, or at least they could used that for the outro to give it a slightly smoother look.)

I didn’t like the old outro, but I know there were people who did. My suggestion whenever these threads come up is to leave the old outro and give us the option to turn it off or let us choose which one we want to use.

I didn’t really care for it, but I didn’t dislike it either. The new one gives a feeling of professionalism for the Spartans; yes, they’re not indoctrinated conscripts, but they’re still professionals.

In the end, both outros still remove my favorite part of a game’s end: The tradition of betraying your team mates while the “Game Over! Victory!/Defeat…” splash screen is showing.

*I started typing this response before I clicked your link…*BEFORE: Please don’t be teabagging. PLEASE don’t be a group -Yoink!-! PLEASE NOT A BODY SHOOTING FRENZY!

AFTER: Phew! It was a Halo 3 -Yoink!-, so it is OK!

Back on topic: I’m also pretty undecided on the “R” and “B” symbols hovering behind you. It looks nice on Breakout maps and decent on some maps like Fathom, but I can imagine it being hideous on something like Overgrowth or the Blue symbol on Molten (except in Freezer).

THERE IT IS! I was looking for a word to describe the new outro, and I couldn’t find one, but PROFESSIONAL is what I was looking for!

I once saw a video with a Warzone end and outro on Escape from A.R.C. where somebody had gotten out of the map in a Banshee somehow and flew really high and did an enormous Ground Pound for the final kill. In the final part of the outro where the Pelicans fly away and the screen fades to black and you can see the spire with the winning team’s color in it, you could see this little blob falling past the spire. It was the Banshee!

People acting like the new outro is more professional like current day people in the military would do.

The old outro was Spot Freaking On. These are former ODSTs the best of the best. Of course they are cocky. Of course they are going to be happy they won and crap.
The new outro is what a Spartan II would do. Trained from a young age etc.
The rest of the UNSC is made up of normal people and Spartan IVs do not have the years and years and years the IIs did.

If you don’t think I am right you do not spend nearly enough time in or around the actual military.
Professional seeming on the outside, fun loving jerks on the inside.

Very very VERY true indeed. Judging by how Buck behaves during ODST and even the Halo 5 campaign, it is not hard to imagine him doing something like this.

If they toned it down a bit I wouldn’t mind it returning to breakout.

It kinda feels like the Spartans would do something like this after a Breakout match, but not after anything else. Breakout seems like something the Spartan IVs would be very competitive about. Imagine Buck and his pals heading to the War Games room to face another group of Spartans in breakout. You can totally see Buck and Romeo doing this.

Tone what down?
I have fist bumped the crap out of my pals when we finish stuff. Chest bumping is harder since we lack power armor…But still

I think it’d be nice to have your own way to celebrate I.E button combos but the old one just seemed like an army of braggers.

I can chest pound at my friends whenever I bet them in Halo but I expect a futurist super soldier of great power and responsibility to do something unique to them. It just felt odd to see in halo almost as if we’d soon have weed AR skins.

Many people said that they’re just people s of course they’d celebrate. Well there’s two kinds of way to party. Wild or Tamed. It seemed like those Spartans really enjoyed killing each other…too much. Especially in context to what was happening in universe, it’d of been even worse.

“YEAH I KICKED YOUR -Yoink- IN A SIMULATION! Oh god, we’re all gonna die! WHY DID MC GO AWOL AT THIS TIME!?! WHY?!?! WHY!?!??!?! BUT ATLEAST I BEAT YOU IN WARGAMES HEH HEH!”

If 343i wishes for their Halo heros to be like the Avengers they should of made that celebration in mind of them. Does Steve Rogers seem like the kind of guy who’d like to see his troops acting like that or Thor? Perhaps not. They’d certainly be fine with them being themselves but just not show boaters.

I would like to point out that Buck is not Thor or Steve Rogers.

Buck is still cracking jokes with Fireteam Osiris while they fly into the city of Sunaion, the Covenants largest stronghold with AA guns pounding their Phantom to pieces. I think they’d still be hyped to show another team that they’re the top dogs.

We can also look back to that mission in the first chapter of Halo 4 Spartan Ops (3rd mission to be exact) where Crimson is racing against another team to clear their structure of Prometheans. It is a prime example of how competitive Spartans are. If these two teams faced off in a match of Breakout, the winner would totally celebrate like crazy. The Spartans are humans. Not machines.

This does not seem fitting in a mode like Slayer, because Slayer is a classic gamemode, added before multiplayer was canonized. Because Breakout is brand new and ties in well with the Infinity and Spartan IVs, I think that 343 has a bit more wiggle room to show off the Spartans’ personalities here.

Everytime I see this, I think of Fireteam Majestic during the DeMarco days.

“Fireteam Majestic doing a little community outreach!”

I feel like the new animations need a bit of spicing up, maybe a shoulder roll or knuckle click, something that says “I’m a badass and I know it” and I agree , the older ones did make them look like -Yoink- holes

> “… The respect of your peers DeMarco. That should be a new experience for you” - Spartan Thorne (or maybe it was Palmer…)
> “Shut it, Thorne” - Spartan DeMarco

I’d like to remind everyone of these lines as well. The Spartans mess around with each other, but when they’re needed or something important is on the line, they get the job done.

I like this idea. Just something slightly more interesting than standing and looking into the distance. I like the high five in the old outro above all of the other parts.
