Was the Janus Key in Halo 5?

The Janus Key was the major plot reveal in Halo 4’s Spartan Ops. Did they mention it at all in Halo 5? Did I miss it? Are they going to revisit the plot point in Halo 6 or is it something we will never hear about again?

Janus Key is in the Halo Escalations Comic.

Oh, so its significance has already been wrapped up? What did they use it for? How did they get M’Dama’s half back?

Why on earth they didn’t mention what became of it in Halo 5 for everyone else is inexcusable.

OH YOU WANT TO FIND OUT?! READ THIS FREAKIN COMIC. GIVE US MONEY!

Yeah. It’s pretty much a major oopsie on the story telling and continuity team’s record in my opinion.

Anybody have a summary for what happened with the Janus Key?

Jul got both halves of the key and opened the absolute record. spartans Thorne, Tanaka and Palmer were sent along with the defector Ayit 'Sevi (Or something along those lines) and Dr. Glassman to infiltrate Jul’s carrier Breath of Annihilation. Once at the Absolute Record, they encountered a Contender-Class AI (Same class as Mendicant Bias, Offensive Bias, Enduring Bias) which set Jul/ Halsey and the UNSC agaisnt each other. As for who wins, we don’t know. The final issue comes out next month.

I’d recommend the Halopedia article on the subject, or Halo Canon’s summary videos of each issue (Though it’s issues 14-24 that are relevant to this). They’d be a lot more in depth than that.

I don’t understand why people get so upset about the inclusion of other media. For those of us who are interested in more story, there is other media for that so the games don’t get bogged down with insane amounts of exposition. The Janus key wasn’t central to the plot of Halo 4, nor was it to Halo 5. If you want to know, go read the comics. If you don’t think they are worth the money, then the information you want isn’t worth it either, and so people shouldn’t complain.

You’re being too logical. How dare you make valid points that others should’ve been able to come to on their own without having to post such questions!!

I feel that Halo 5’s story isn’t done yet.

Theyve stated no “Halo 5 campaign DLC”, but I think that there will be another Halo 5 title.

Halo 5: [Subtitle here]

Mmmmm so much elitism. Your high pedestal is clearly not worthy of those who just play the games. You know what 343 did that was nice? Actually tell the lore for us casual players. The terminals in CE: Anniversary, Halo 2, and Halo 4 told a rich backstory on the creation of the Halos, Forerunners, and the rise and fall of Didact. NOWHERE in Halo 5 are we granted such a luxury and are expected to know this crap right off the bat.

I think it’s pretty clear that the UNSC wins, since Jul is dead now. They should’ve released that issue before Halo 5 launched.

Possibly; it would make sense for the use of a subtitle in a mainline game. Probably piss off some people that feel they’re money-grabbing though.

Wonder how it would work with multiplayer… I guess like ODST? United multi, different campaigns per disc, fingers crossed firefight?

Overall, makes me ambivalent; I’m not sure I could support another game to finish it out, although, I really wanted the story to continue haha.

Except Spartan Ops was billed as the continuation of Halo 4’s story and 343 put a lot of emphasis on that story. The fact Halo 4 truthfully ends with Jul and Halsey with half of the key and the Infinity with the other half and NOTHING in Halo 5 explains what happened that to plot thread is a bit shocking. Which is strange since they have no problem referencing bits from the other books and comics, notably the Covenant remnant attack on Oban (the beginning to Jul and Halsey’s plan to get the other key). 343 dropped the ball.

Agreed. To not pick up where that left off is a bit shortsighted. Why bother telling the story at all then? In the end, it adds nothing. If i had to guess, their vision of H5 changed creatively after the release of H4. Luckily, books and comics exist to wrap up those open ended story lines… and unfortunately, not all of us keep up with that literature, or even knew it existed. There seems to be a flood of it out there, which can be a bit overwhelming, and a bit of a distraction. The reliance of “out of game” means to continue, develop, or wrap up plot devices that exist in game? It’s a bit wonky. Like a band-aide. Just glad the story wasn’t on readable cards only accessible on Waypoint.

I just disappointed that 343 made this same mistake after admitting it was a problem in Halo 4.

To be honest; that’s why I think they included the subtitle to begin with, but came up with the excuse of “getting away from numbers”.
To avoid the confusion of what happened with “Halo 3: ODST” and yet it happened DURING Halo 2.

I would imagine this game coming out in 2017, as Halo Wars 2 is 2016, and Halo 6 is 2018. So I see it as a push towards getting more people excited about Halo 6.

And yes; I see it being done as ODST was; separate campaign with some new feature, but typical MP runs together.

If I had to guess, I think they painted themselves into a corner. They had an idea (which was H5) but to get there required repeating the same mistake as H4. It’s almost too ironic to not be true.

Honestly, I can’t say. I feel like the rate of growth with Halo’s story is exceeding the rate in which the games can be released. It would be ok if the in game characters had side stories, but to have different media cross paths with the overarching major plot line? It’s just messy. There needs to be greater continuity in terms of how what media conveys which stories.
