Is it possible that very few were able to flee to unknown regions of space beyond the reach of the forerunners? It would be interesting to see an isolated colony appear in the future.
Every Ancient Human was devolved by the Forerunners, and then a very large portion of their population was Composed by the Didact. No Ancient Humans exist and have been completely replaced by normal humanity.
Not that we needed Ancient Humanity in the lore in the first place.
It’s always possible… Much like how the ancient Forerunners who pursued the Precursors into Path Kethona evolved separately from their counterparts in the Milky Way. But I suppose I just don’t see much of a point to expanding on that plot point. I’m fairly satisfied with how it all turned out. I’d much rather get a more detailed look at Ancient Humanity at the peak of their civilization.
Pretty much. If there were any exceptions, they were killed by the activation of the Halo Array.
Logically there should have been contingency plans in place to prevent humanity’s extinction in the event of defeat to the Forerunners or Flood but there doesn’t appear to have been or they were rendered impossible before implementation in canon. Is it possible there are some non-devolved humans out there? Yes but odds are they won’t go that route.

This is what I came in to say. If there was a faction that fled the reach of the Forerunners, they wouldn’t have been privy to the activation/existence of the Halos. They would have had to make it an exceptional distance, for no good reason, to happen outside of the firing range without explicit planning.

Ok so first of all this^^^^^^^^^^^^
Secondly what Archodus Vaxal said Halo’s would have done it.
Thirdly even before the firing of the rings humanity was caught between the flood and the forerunners. So you know rock and hard place. So in the words of Cortana every time I play the second mission “Halo” : “they’re all dead.” “You didn’t rescue any survivors.”
And if any did survive outside of our Galaxy (soooooooooo doubtful) they have continued to evolve this whole time while we reevolved. We are unlikely to really be one unified species at this point. I mean shoot we see divergent evolution within the kig-yar of different worlds which is realistically what would be happening on each word we settled. It’s like that we see when we look at the species of Australia it was separated for a long time and junk got real weird and different.
