So i’m writing this after I’ve played Halo 5 and the further I went through the campaign, the more I wondered about the Didact and his role in this “Saga”. If I can remember correctly the Didact was supposed to be Chiefs real nemesis. I feel like after all the information and build up towards him was for nothing. Such a complex and well written character was never actually in the game and was only mentioned ONCE throughout the campaign. What do you guys think? Will he show up in Halo 6 and future games or do you think 343 dropped him (I think they dropped him personally)? Before anyone says anything, Yes I have read the comics and I know the Didact isn’t dead but “Contained”. While I like the The Warden Eternal and Cortana, I feel like the Didact might have fit more in the story over Cortana. If I could get some good feedback or information that I might have missed.
I feel like he will play a point in Halo 6.
You still have 343 GS roaming around
Composed didact.
And 343 GS said that the Liberian is still around.
So they is still a lot going on out there in the Galaxy.
Halo 5 to me felt like a small fraction of this giant story that is unfolding

That’s why I think Halo is going past 3 games for the “Forerunner Saga”. I feel like this is just the beginning likes its episode 1. I just don’t want Didact to be dropped, hes just too great a character to be gone now.
The grunts in Halo 5 talk about him(mostly positively) but always in past tense. Cortana also mentions his ship being sucked into slipspace so I would say he is most definitely toast.
I am actually more curious as to why Master Chief’s marker’ from The Librarian didn’t play a role in this game. Halo 4 seemed to have all this going on about the Chief being chosen and in Halo 5 it seems none of that came to fruition.

Same here, I thought it was strange that they never mentioned it.

They mentioned it plenty of times. It’s the whole reason Chief was passing through certain areas that Locke wasn’t able to.

I thought that was just the Warden letting them through because Cortana ordered him to let them pass.
I hope he makes a comeback. I’ll be pretty disappointed if they killed off that great of a character in the not so stellar Halo: Escalation.
I know its a bit late, but yeah OP I agree completely with you, I thought he was set up to be this trilogy’s Main Villain. Didact in the comics and flashbacks and to a lesser extent in 4 would have been a much more interesting character to have than Cortana. I thought he was going to be revealed as the hand behind cortana at the end and he was using The Warden as just that, a person to make sure the Forerunners objectives are fulfilled. I was pretty disappointed when it actually turned out to be her, and she was revealed so early on too. Not to mention it made her sacrifice in 4 mean nothing emotionally from a story stand point. Maybe something will happen with his character in the future, because tbh I think Cortana is a pretty cheesy villain compared to the first 3 we had in this series, pretty predictable too doing the “person you once loved is now your enemy” move. not to mention we were lied too with the promotion and made to think Chief was the one who went villain, imo that would have even been a better move to further explore his character.
My guess is he will be in 6 either via The Wardens hand, seeing as he butts heads with Cortana a lot and even she seems to think he has ulterior motives for her. Not to mention when most people here Warden they think “jailor” Cortana may very well be his prisoner and he may be keeping up a ruse, making her think shes in control, she even mentions him being distrustful of her in the campaign. That or Cheif and Halsey might think “well only way for the Forerunners to not listen to Cortana and stop this madness would be if their real ruler returned” and find him again. Then they do the whole team up thing and Didact says screw you and betrays them once hes in power again. I can’t see them disregarding a character that has potential to be a great villain for someone who has outlived their time in Halo and should have stayed dead.
On a side note its interesting-I know the guy at 343 who wrote Halo 4 and the comics even said “He wasn’t composed, because I’m in charge of the story, there is a big plan trust me” or something along those lines on his twitter Implying that what we read in Escalation is not his end … But then again I heard they traded him in for the guy who wrote HODST’s story. If so, idk why you would trade in a experienced comic book writer for the writer of the worst Halo game lol, if that rumor is true. If true though it would explain why 5 had pretty mediocre writing compared to 4, and how they brought back a dead character instead of expanding on Chiefs personality by himself.

I think he’s dying. How else do you explain grunts and jackals being way more powerful than previous games?
i think halo 6 will see chief pass the torch to Locke or another Spartan.
Dude, read the books and the comic. Read the Reclaimer trilogy by Greg Bear and then the Halo Escalation and there is your info.

Well, he is contained. He isn’t dead. Chief said it, he refused to say Didact is killed. So - everything is possible.

Well, the actor voicing Chief Steve Downes will eventually really retire… and Chief isn’t immortal, he’s almost 50 (!) so he’ll pass the torch. Chief isn’t the whole Halo Universe and there are so many more characters. Sure, he’s the legend, but there is more.
PS. After Halo 5 I tolerate Locke and he’s just ok… But I really really hope the real new hero will be someone else than him.
That’s where 343 are messing up. We don’t need a character with a story like they’ve tried with Locke.
the universe should be the story, not the character we play as.
I reckon steve downes won’t be back after 6, even if chief is.
