After reading Halo: Cryptum by Greg Bear, I’m really curious on why 343i decided that the Didact should be the villain in Halo 4 and possibly the whole saga? The Didact was nice against the humans in the book and he also regretted the war with the humans. What happened to him that changed his mind in Halo 4? I think the antagonist should have been Faber.
> I think the antagonist should have been Faber.
Agreed
Nope.
There was no real in-game explanation of him. All of a sudden MC frees him, Didact says stuff and throws MC at wall. The terminals made sense, but why the Didact would just go off wanting to eradicate humanity after the flood were taken care of is crazy.
Sure, but only if you know the whole background, i.e read the novels and saw the Terminals. Otherwise, you’d most likely be very confused and have no idea what’s going on…

Agreed, the three novels and terminals will clear it up.
Honestly No
He was in the game for a total of 5 minutes and compared to 343guilty spark or the Prophet of Truth , He was poorly written and badly characterised in game.
No. No he was not.
The voice actor was good. But the character? Lame.
In the game he definitely wasn’t. He wasn’t hard tp kill and he didn’t throw enough obstacles in your way.
In the terminals and novels, he’s a much better antagonist. Halo 4’s campaign was too rushed to get to see the Didact’s true character.
To be honest, I had no idea what I was look at the first time I saw him. Even after brushing up on the books and the lore, but with the flood contained and everything set back in order, I’m still not sure why he was trying to destroy the human race.
It just seems odd to hold that kind of grudge for so long, especially after humanity had shown that it could take care of itself.
I like the didact as character. But as antagonist … dunno.
The monologue in the end was awesome.
His introduction in Halo 4 was a little off but when you factor in the Books you can understand his motivations and he becomes a much better villain. He is doing what he’s doing to ensure Humans don’t rise to power because he believes the Forerunner should be the dominate power in the Galaxy. There is also supposed to be a Flood invasion or something as well, at least that’s what the Primordial said. I doubt we’ve seen the last of him anyway so I would expect his character to be further developed in future games.
yes, but his presentation could have been much better. i mean hes the first forerunner to live after thousands of years and the only backstory included in the campaign was a small speech
I’ll take Jul Mdama over Didact.
I look at him the same way I look at Venom in Spiderman 3. Cool concept, cool design, cool character . . . poor execution within the storyline which ultimately leads to frustration.
Like Venom in spiderman 3, there was so much potential… so much potential.
BTW, I forgot to mention, since my last post is not letting me edit, Didact poses well as a character, but not as an antagonist, b/c although he may give verbal threats, it seems he barely does nothing in terms of fighting. Its like, he sits back and lets the Promethean’s do all the work for him.

I hate to go off topic, but he looked horrible. Too slim, should’ve been bigger like in the comics

He is a damn good one, trust me read the other books in the forerunner saga and you will see why. Silentium will really delve into that more trust me. However read the rest of them before making a judgement.
He looks like a mix between Dracula and Voldemort and has an army of robots made from the composition of humans. Yeah, he’s pretty damn awesome.

lol, I like that one.
If they actually explained why he wanted to destroy the human race he would be, but otherwise he just appears to be a grouchy old alien who wants the human race to get off his lawn.
