A lot of people still play Halo 3. That means that instead of purchasing the newest game (in this case Reach) a Halo 3 player is content with playing an old game. Just by being logical, you can guess that some people who have enjoyed Reach (there are a few) will want to continue to play Reach even when Halo 4 comes out.
Preventing this is a pretty easy decision- ruin Reach gameplay so that nearly everyone purchases Halo 4 and leaves Reach. Moreover everyone who purchased CEA will have enjoyed CEA as a novelty game- the campaign was excellent and classic and the multiplayer was a nice trip down nostalgia lane. So now, 343 needs only deal with the slightly unhappy customers who are eagerly awaiting Halo 4. And of course, we will all play Reach in the meanwhile.
The reality of it is, taking away CEAs gameplay and a lot of very popular maps (despite their quite reasonable population) will prevent people from playing a lot of Reach when Halo 4 comes out. 343 is making a statement- buy the new one, toss the old one, and look forward to the Halo 5 whenever 4 gets boring a few months down the road.
you know, you’re probably right. I still think it’s a poor decision. If they’re expecting people to buy the Halo 4 DLC after this, they might be in for a surprise. DLC sales for Reach were low as it is, and now the people who DID get it are getting boned.
This will be the first 343 Halo release though and I honestly think that will sway people to at least give it a try. Whether it meets expectations is irrelevant- enough people will make the move over to Halo 4 because they love Halo and the Halo Universe. It doesn’t make a difference how good the quality of the game is because enough people will buy it just based on the name. And just when people are finally fed up and dissatisfied with it all, out comes Halo 5 or another Halo 4 variant and people will move on to the next.
My consensus about Reach- Halo 3 is considered really good by quite a few people, Reach was mediocre. People didn’t make the move so sales weren’t great. Reach will suck enough now that everyone will be like, oh thank god there is a new one out to play.
It’s certainly a business decision, at least by all appearances, and NOT a fan-focused decision. It would seem that fans (and the opinions of fans) no longer matter once they have your money. Poor, poor, poor…

343 are butthurt because they know people will still be playing BUNGIE’S game long after theirs comes out, so they probably made this update to suck the last bit of fun out of Reach just to get people to hop on board with H4.

Halo Reach was the best of them all,the most complete fps I have ever played and you say is mediocre? Holy -Yoink-! Are you feeling alright?! People that consider it mediocre are unsatisfied because it didn’t had the op battle rifle from halo 3, or that giagantum jumping ability…Mediocre really? And for the other ones that considered mediocre is because it didn’t have the master chief.
PS: The best selling game was halo 3 with almost 12 million copies and the second one was reach with almost 9, how did it sold poorly?
I played Halo 3 Action Sack the other night with some friends and we had a good time. Now that they’ve removed Action Sack from Reach we might do that more.
I was really excited about Halo 4 originally, but not so much anymore. No Firefight, wouldn’t buy any DLC given how 343 has handled Reach DLC. Spartan Ops depends on 343 releasing new content on a regular basis, and given what I’ve seen 343 do with Reach so far I’m not inspired by the idea of buying Halo 4 and hoping Spartan Ops will be supported in a way I’ll like. How long before Spartan Ops stops being released because they’re too busy working on Halo 5?

This is all subjective, of course. Personally I wasn’t that impressed. There were some good things, but frankly being the rookie on a team of incompetent misfits wasn’t that much fun. I don’t like being spattered by my AI teammates or having them stand in front of me so I can’t shoot anything unless I move to some position where I’m more exposed than I want to be. I don’t want them taking the first shot to alert enemies to my presence.

I don’t follow sales statistics, but I suspect there were a lot more Xboxes and gamers using them out there when Reach came out in 2010 than there were when Halo 3 came out in 2007.

In Halo 3 you would get the sames noobs betraying you, about the sales; halo 3 had a lot more publicity, after all it was suppose to be “le grand finale”. And you don’t have to follow statistics, just search on the web before stating certain things… halo reach was the second best selling game in halo history. And by the time halo 3 came out there were sold at least 20/30 million xbox…so don’t go that way.

I agree but I’ll put it in a way that IS constructive.
I think 343i were trying to ensure that people would play Halo4 not stay on REACH so they changed the playlists in such a way that atleast 99.9% of people hate.
This unfortunatly means that any game type that you enjoyed and has been removed will sadly not make a return.
If you really enjoy a game type that much though we could try to create a cusrtom games version of it.
