Was the Ark thought of already in CE

So the flood was kept secret until the player played 343 guilty spark. Now the flood is (in my assumption) a Biblical reference. The ark was the thing that protected animals and people from the flood in the Bible, but in the games it does similar by protecting species from the flood and from the firing of the Halos. Then there was the greater ark as well. Basically it was a safe haven from the flood because it was unknown where it was. Was the flood named first then bungie add later the ark to be part of the reference or was the ark thought if along with the flood?

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Halo story Bible was written with the references long before the series was complete, but had to change at the last moment because of Halo 2.

Good question don’t know

Can’t think of any direct references from the original CE. You could make some extrapolations from the fact that despite the fact the rings are supposed to wipe out all life, somehow they were able bounce back and flourish. It begs the question of how anything could have survived when the rings were used the first time. Was there a mass preservation initiative? We know that there was originally supposed to be wildlife in CE.

The Librarian seeded all species before the firing of the rings to be able to repopulate the galaxy. The arms were out of range of the rings and were kept secret so the flood wouldn’t gain knowledge of the locations. After the firing animals were brought back and some rings had wildlife come back. Like how the humans repopulated a Halo and the didact enslaved them into the prometheans.

Thanks for clarifying. I meant it as a rhetorical question from the lens of someone with only just the original CE available for the frame of reference.

Yes, they had an idea of The Ark during CE. It probably changed a lot from story and design views as they continued development: https://twitter.com/game_fabricator/status/1088274744456159232

Idk about Halo CE, but by the time they started Halo 2 they intended for the Ark to be on Earth.

Yes The Ark as a concept was definitely in Bungie’s cupboard for Halo 2 but it was a very different facility. Remember: originally Forerunners were meant to actually be ancient humans.

The name alone tells you that it’s primary place in the lore was to show how life was reseeded after the firing of the Halo array. IIRC Halo 2’s big reveal was meant to be in the form of a Forerunner sarcophagus (given location on Earth… Librarian anyone?)

It was a step in the prophet’s eyes so probably, yeah
