I’ve been reading a lot about the hate Reach gets but I really don’t get it. IMO it was a really good game in terms of gameplay, story, and graphics at the time. A lot of stuff I read is the constant hate with AA’s and the completely obvious cannon inconsistencies, but I’d love to hear some legitimate arguments into what makes Reach “terrible.”
No, not at all, the campaign was fantastic and the multiplayer was excellent, the only gripe I had were the mapa used in multiplier, dull and recycled campaign maps.

I had the same gripe but I came to really like all the maps either way. And the DLC maps were pretty tight too.
It wasn’t “terrible” but it was different. You can see how Bungie was ready to evolve and ready to move on from the tried and true Halo recipe. A lot of the features from Reach were carried over to Destiny…for all you Destiny vets. The armor abilities are the most referred because many times they just felt cheap. There were many times that I had somebody close to death and they’d go into armor lock or jetpack out of danger only to turn around and have my butt kicked after I had the upper hand. Now these tactics also worked in my favor where I was able to turn the tides after being pinned. In the end, the equation was balanced, but it was annoying at times. Also, armor lock was so so OP when it first came out, Bungie had to balance a lot of those abilities as time went on. Additionally if you go into Destiny’s Pvp, it’s a mess right now because of the unbalanced supers. Hammer of sol is just tearing it up right now because it’s so tanky. It’s just easier to have a suite of abilities that everyone has access to, that’s what I love about Halo 5. There are awesome abilities but we all have the same ones at any given time. It’s how you choose to use those abilities in combat that set apart the weak from the strong. It’s hard to have different classes with different abilities and still have a balanced PvP experience, there is always going to be one that’s just better than the others. This was true in Reach in the early phases, and it’s very much evident in Destiny right now.
I really liked it, but people will always find something to complain about
Halo: Reach was simply too different for most players to see as a ‘true’ Halo game. Therefore a lot of people became pretty salty about it.
Personally I believe it was one of the better titles in the series. Forge mode was at its best and it was a very well rounded experience. Aside from vehicles being extremely vulnerable to small arms fire but I can’t complain.
I’m still crossing my fingers for a new Firefight mode in Halo 6. It was one of the best parts abouT Reach and ODST
Reach is the pinnacle of all the Halo games to this point. It was the best thought out complete game. Campaign was tight, firefight gave players a great alternative to the multiplayer. You could play any mode and earn points toward unlocking armor. All game modes had commendations to try to complete which helps with overall replay ability. You played as your Spartan with your colors through campaign and firefight. Custom games for both firefight and multiplayer. Sure some people hated the armor abilities and there were some definite balance issues with them but I still enjoyed it.
At the time, many didn’t care for certain aspects of the game, mainly AAs. Looking back though, as some have mentioned, Reach was a very complete game experience and I actually miss it now. It had sooo much content. Maybe even the most of any Halo (I said it. Do what you will…) if you want to talk about variety? Reach was where it was at.
It took the release of H4 and H5 for me to realize it, but Reach was actually pretty damn good. (Not that I haven’t enjoyed H4 or H5, don’t get me wrong) It was a decent enough balance of classic and modern Halo. Remove jet packs and armor lock? I would of probably stayed there for good.

I loved it…loved the Single Player and multiplayer…wasn’t too fond of the credit system and neither was I fond about armor abilities…except jet packs…Jet packs were fun
Reach is my favorite Halo. The only issue with it is the campaign was a bit anti-cannon.
Apart from Canon issues, Reach is definitely above 4 and 5 for me. The single player was cool and I loved playing Invasion.
The AA’s were a little annoying, but I didn’t really have many problems taking out the people who used them etc. In fact, I loved trying to armour lock when a ghost was on the field!
Most of the people that seem to hate - in my opinion - on Reach are the ones who either stuck to 343 as fan boys or felt betrayed that Bungie left Halo. They gave us an amazing send off for it though with the most content of any Halo game.
And they did it without even wanting to make another Halo game. That is professionalism and dedication to fans.
And now I’ll wait to be called a Bungie fanboy even though I haven’t played Destiny since last December…
Reach was awesome, graphically and gameplay-wise. The multiplayer game modes were really fun along with the campaign. I felt the campaign on Legendary was the most difficult compared to past games, but the story and gameplay was great. From talking to my friends I thought I general consensus was that Reach was received, but that’s interesting you’re hearing otherwise.

I became very salty about it. He’s right, it was too different for me. I liked the campaign but I couldn’t get past how different of a game it was. The game wasn’t terrible but I certainly didn’t enjoy my experience with it. Also, I’m one of the few weirdos who doesn’t like firefight, so that didn’t help anything.
Reach was not that bad. I cannot think of one thing that I disliked except maybe the try hards in matchmaking, but that is expected.
I liked Reach, it was a step in the right direction gameplay-wise, then 4 can along with the sprinting ability…I was hoping that Halo was going to become a futuristic version of battlefield with armor with attachments and customizable guns…and then they decided to listen to try-hard mlg pros and casual playlists bite the dust…
Reach had a massive armor selection and a lot of playlists. It needed tuning but it was adjusted around. Loved MLG, slayer pro, and snipers. Reach sniper was built great and I loved the scope. BTB WAS HUGE, it had so much variation that it kept Halo tracker going for a bit. It also brought in so many community ideas and helped keep the community strong. Bungies red flames, blue flames and other element ideas also made armor fun to get because you felt like you HAD to have them. Great marketing on the armor.
Da heck? I didn’t know people didn’t like Reach. I liked it lots! It had a good campaign, great multiplayer…armor lock…my fav…
I personally LOVED Reach. My most-played Halo game by far.
I thought Reach was a great installment in the Halo series. It offered new customization and a different style of story telling that I thought worked extremely well. It definitly made you like the characters more!
I loved Reach. Tied with Halo 3 for my favorite Halo. (Which is why I’m disappointed I will not be playing it on backwards compatibility today when I get home.
) I don’t even do PVP, I loved it for the campaign and for Firefight - playing as a customizable Spartan in those modes was just beyond cool, to me. Unlike with the Chief who has his backstory, you can REALLY immerse yourself in Noble 6’s character.
As far as the campaign elements that appear to be canon-breaking, most of them can be reconciled, albeit some of them maybe a little implausibly. I just ignore that part of it. LOL
