Title pretty much sums it up. Was there ever a definitive answer to why MLG excluded Halo 4 from the circuit?
Just watching Black Ops 2 MLG footage makes me cringe as people just camp corners and spray. I seriously think 343 needs to refocus on the competitive gameplay that made Halo so popular because whether people like/accept it or not, Halo is in a decline, and it isn’t because of the surge of popularity with CoD or that Halo has more competition now. There is no reason why Reach and 4 shouldn’t have lasted longer than 3 and Halo 3 had plenty of competition back in '07 including Call of Duty.
I feel instead of pulling ideas from other games, Bungie and 343 should have expanded from the gameplay that was already defined. I don’t see Call of Duty copying ideas gameplay from other games, they simply expand on the CoD formula that CoD fans love. Because at the end of the day, adding CoD-like features to your game isn’t going to attract CoD gamers. Call of Duty gamers are just going to play Call of Duty!
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Halo 4, but I do think it could be much, much better without a lot of things. So you can agree or disagree with me, I don’t care. I just want an answer to my question and my opinion heard.
From what I remembered, Halo 4 was tied up with the -Yoink!- Gaming tourney. This ran into the MLG games sign up thing, and caused it to miss out on the circuit.
Probably an overlysimplified version, but that is what I heard.
Like the other guy said, I think it has to do with Microsoft or 343i signing on with -Yoink!-. Odd thing is I believe an MLG pro won the truck that was a prize for the -Yoink!- Tournament, so…

That’s what I was thinking and it’s honestly a real shame and shows that Microsoft must be really focusing on the casual gamer.
MLG claimed that Halo’s support was dropped due to an exclusive contract between -Yoink!- and Microsoft. However -Yoink!- Gaming responded saying while the contract existed they had no intention of stopping MLG from using Halo at it’s events.
MLG has grown and moved on from Halo, it is simply not a worthy game to justify them supporting it.

In other words money.
I would guess a combinations of several things.
1)Moniez
2)Halo fans complaining about how the game sucks
3)Blops2 fans begging MLG to play their game, because they’re so awezome!
I would assume it is because Treyarch actually goes out of their way to cater to the competitive community, while 343 ignored us for a very long time(until Doubles). And with Reach being a failure on the circuit, MLG did not want to risk losing money on Halo again, so they went for Black Ops this time around.

Neither is Call of Duty, but they still ride it for its popularity.
I cannot understand how CoD is considered competitive.
Halo has a unique game element, the engaging fire fight. The futuristic body armor makes the fire fight extensive. Unlike other FPS, you don’t just drop when you are shot. That makes the fire fight competitive beyond any other game that I can think of.
Over 90% of all fire fights in CoD are literally dropping because someone shot first. That makes no sense to me as either fun nor competitive.

So this makes the most sense… MLG = popularity first, competitive second if at all?

MLG is essentially a business, just like anything else. If they can’t make enough profit from using a game, even if it is the best for Competitive play, then they’ll need to switch to a game that will grant them more profit.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you. Finally someone whom I can agree with.

Call of Duty is worthy because it is popular. It amasses more people than Halo. Everything is about making money. They make money through the players and the people who pay to come watch.
Why wouldnt they use the most popular product?
from what I took away from it was EVERYONE was bickering about what settings to use for H4 in MLG, and no one could agree on the settings. With CoD, the settings were all good, so they chose to go with the game that could get them the entire community, rather than just some (due to game type fights)

If Halo had a fanbase of 200,000 and CoD had a fanbase of 2,000,000 I could still see more Halo fans watching competitive Halo than CoD fans watching competitive CoD. IMO Competitive Halo is/was more popular and watchable than competitive CoD. I can barely be competitive playing CoD so how would I possibly want to watch competitive CoD?
I know it was all about a big mess that 343i did some contract with -Yoink!- Gaming, and maybe had something to do with that truck they gave away earlier. But oh well, I miss Halo being on MLG, those tournaments were pretty great. I think there was one Halo 4 tournament, and then nothing.
