MP would have been much more balanced if 343i had only put in the DMR OR BR as the need for similar weapons is just redundant. People will say the DMR is for longer ranges, but is that not the job of the sniper? In short only the BR should have been put in the game due to conflicting roles of the Sniper and DMR.
I don’t like long-range rifles like the DMR and LR. Allowing players to shoot each other from across the map without a Sniper Rifle slows the game down quite a bit.
I wouldn’t miss the BR.
I kind of agree with the OP, but at the same time, I like the options presented to us by giving us the DMR and Light Rifle as well as the BR and Carbine.

The Light Rifle would be much better as a burst weapon with the same range as the BR and the carbine is fine as it is.
There are many different kinds of weapons in real life. Its hard for me to believe that as a super soldier you would only have one standard weapon to choose from.
I love the BR and I love the DMR.
They are different and I think 343 should innovate more with other new weapons.

That’s not the point, it isn’t about types of weapons, it is about balanced mp sandbox.
The DMR should never have made it into this game, the whole point of its existence in Reach was because the BR came in after Reach had fallen (see Halo Lore). It didn’t exist through the 3 Chief games so why did it need to come back suddenly in the 4th?
Now the UNSC has 2 precision loadout weapons whereas the other factions have 1.

I really believe that there was no reason to include both.
Most likely the reason it was included was for the whiny, whiny players on these forums that demanded it be included, lest it not be called Halo.
Ugh.
I agree with the OP though. One or the other, not both. BR going forward, no more DMR ever. It was phased out when the BR was introduced; by fluff accounts, it’s like taking an M1 Garand to today’s modern conflicts. Derp.
> I really believe that there was no reason to include both.
That’s because there really was no reason. Maybe it can try to be justified by saying “Oh, well people in Reach enjoyed it so Lore be -Yoink!-!”
I hope with all my hoping of hopes the DMR doesn’t make it into Halo Xbone.

I believe the “flow” of the levels gets ruined by that mechanic.
343 should have went with LR as its premier rifle. But that would mean H4 would have to be more like H2&3. I’m a firm believer Halo MP should be more of an Arena Shooter. No loadouts just one rifle that takes skill to use with a different but balanced alternative. Like BR vs Carbine or DMR vs NR. All this custom loadout nonsense just raises more balance issues. Or as OP pointed out, a bunch of weapons that fill unnecessary roles.
I doubt the DMR is leaving. It’s a solid weapon.

Actually, the canonical reason as to why the DMR isn’t in CE-3 is because the Marines didn’t use the DMR, they used the BR, however the Army (who we were with in Reach) used the DMR, so it was used post-Reach, we weren’t with anyone who used the DMR
Then in 4, the crew of the Infinity is made up of Humanities best, Army, Marine, Civilian, Spartan, etc. So yeah, it can be in Halo 4, and has much place in Halo as the BR
From a campaign standpoint sure it should have been in the game
From a multiplayer standpoint no chance in hell
The more things you add to a sandbox the harder it is to create balance within that sand box as we all witnessed for the games first 6 months pre-tuning
> The Light Rifle would be much better as a burst weapon with the same range as the BR and the carbine is fine as it is.
The Light Rifle IS a 3 round burst weapon when its unscoped, and a single shot when scoped. It has the best of both worlds.
Well Promethean weapon wise…the light rifle is fine and they didn’t need two ranged weapons, they messed up the light rifle by making it shoot slower unscoped, idk why they did that…probably just to make BR noobs feel better.
The covenant on the other hand should have gotten the needle rifle back if they brought the DMR back. Yes the covenant is breaking apart, but taking away all those awesome weapons is nonsense.

Actually that was done for two reasons
Firstly it was done to further push it into its niche role which is long range combat
Secondly it was done to BALANCE out the fact that its scoped fire received a buff
You do know what balance is right?
Jesus what is it with you people and your blind hatred for the BR without knowing the facts surrounding it?
I wouldn’t mind the DMR if it had the old bloom. It really balanced it out. It can have a faster kill time if the bloom limits it completely.
