Hey guys, Me again…don’t usually post in this section but one thing has really made me wonder. Me and my brother recently finished off the Campaign and it sort of stunned me the way 343I decided to end it. With Cortana sacrificing herself to save Chief.
Now I vaguely picked up the gist of what was going to happen but when it happened I honestly didn’t think that 343 would actually do it.
My question is…Did anyone really see the ending of H4’s campaign coming?
Oh, sure. I figured there was no way in Hell that the Chief was going to make it off of Requiem before Cortana kicked the bucket so, her sacrificing herself wasn’t the biggest surprise to me.
It was hella foreshadowed early on in the campaign when Cortana said, “Don’t make a girl a promise you can’t keep.”
She knew she was going rampant faster than the time it would take Chief to find a ship and get back to Earth. She probably was even able to calculate the exact moment of her full rampancy. So even if the Didact hadn’t been released, and all that stuff, there was no way Chief was going to make it back in time. Hence her foreboding quote.
Maya’s forsaw it, they where just a couple of days of
But seriously, the game was building up to it. I however did not expect 343i to make such a ending so it came as an suprise for me that cortana was killed of/disappeared so soon.
Knew she was going to die because of her rampancy. What surprised me was that she didnt die of rampancy, but died because she sacrificed herself to save the Chief.
No way did I predict that to happen. I figured she would die off in parts of Halo 5 though. Which, now that I think about it, why kill off a major character, halfway into the next game?
It didn’t surprise me, we’ve built up to it for some time, but I was also surprised she died the way she did. She was in a terminal, then a blast of energy and she blew herself up, which is STILL debatable. I just think that she couldn’t hold all her personality spikes and it became too much for her not to blow.
In a way, she saved Chief’s life not only by the ending… but by also not being in his hand or his helmet when that happened. Can you guys think what would have happened if she splice exploded like that inside Chief’s helmet?
I don’t think anyone familiar with the Halo canon was surprised. We all knew she was living beyond her life expectancy, not to mention, it was basically yelled at us throughout the game. I’m actually more impressed with how they handled it.

Knew it was coming even hinted at it before game release.
Who is to say that the end scene of Master Chief being unarmored was not him being retired. After all he has been through. Halo 5 might see the emergence of a new main central character with John 117 in a support role.

I could think nothing more unpopular an idea than 343 doing that, especially with folk on here ranting that the game has changed too much as it is. To replace the Chief would be to commit suicide. Still, Mass Effect 3 did it so why not…

I have no doubt that he’ll be playable in the next two games of the Reclaimer saga. That said, they may have more than one playable character a la Halo 2, though I even doubt they’ll go too far in that direction. Halo 6 is most likely the Chief’s final game (chronologically) unless 343/MS try to milk him for all he’s worth. I have confidence that 343 cares enough to try and give him a proper send off and retire the character appropriately, though I also have confidence that MS are stupid enough and greedy enough that they’ll want to continue using him to make more money.

I agree with you the masses would revolt. I don’t have an exact timeline but this story as a whole (and that is what Halo Is one epic story line) has been going on for what 6-8 years now, since original Xbox. So the continuing story will eventually see John sidelined.
Halo has a rich history to it and that is what keeps the faithful returning. Casual gamers will come and go but the following wants to see what’s happening next and be part of the journey.
idk, i think they did a good thing with noble 6, and ODST, i just dont think the lack of features in Halo 4 will please them
if they give me an action packed, highly replayable game, with A LOT of features ie: Firefight, Spartan Ops, Campaign Scoring, Complete Map Editor [including terrain]
I wouldnt mind chief missing.
After all they kinda ruined it with me when they took off his armor.
CHIEF NEVER TAKES OFF HIS ARMOR. not matter how stinky he is
I wouldn’t have seen it coming (ok I might have) if three indiviuals hadn’t spoiled the ending for me before I got my hands on the game.
It was an interesting ending, but don’t assume she’s dead. It’s more like what happened in Halo 2 and 3, she’s trapped on the forruner equivelant of high charity in some sense. There is nothing saying she’s gone, or dead, simply that she isn’t there now.
More likely than not, she has reached metastability.
