The most plausible explanation yet to that technical mess is… That they are playing with us and it’s just a decoy. For some reason they found releasing a bad looking gameplay make sense marketing-wise to show later a game that looks completely different.
And I really mean it. Like, the prologue in the ship in the space, or even the conversation with the pilot before John leaves the ship. The armor looks awesome, but then the gameplay starts and suddenly… Extreme popping! Weird plants dissappearances! The car physics get stuck mid air! Broken shadows! I mean, it is just too bad to be true. It looks too much worse than 2018’s slipspace trailer. Curiously it only features a warthog, an extremely ugly phantom, some elite, grunts and a few brutes. No more vehicles, no more enemies. They didn’t even pick a epic gameplay section for the reveal. And I mean, the game will be out in 4 months likely.

But it is still extremely strange. Why did they promote the game with an alledgely old build? Why didn’t the gameplay section had any interest at all? Why there isn’t a story trailer but just some bad looking secondary foe?
All that and this 10 years platform stuff, definitely doesn’t even feel like a main Halo. It feels like some F2P MMO spin-off.

Mmmh I don’t know…maybe because there is a Pandemic going around forcing people to work from home making it hard to coordinate around 300 people. Instead of wasting time on a more actually stable demo build - which we would have gotten normally - they focus all their energy - from home office - to finish the game actually for us to play in November? (Another example be Star Trek Discovery Originally planned to be released around Summer that is now delayed to October because the team has to work from home).
Not saying 343 and MS did themselves a favour showing off the game like that, but people seem to forget how they have to work right now.
You could be playing 8 bit still. I thought it looked fine. I want it to play well. Graphics I care about last. I still play super Nintendo for the same reason. Good games are fun. Not bad games with good graphics
All of the theories about deliberately making it look worse or using an old build have essentially been debunked once we started to see video advertisements using the same footage.
I think a lot of the technical issues I saw (outside of cloud pop- in and lighting) are likely explained from one simple thing.
343 had to add custom programming in to the demo build to guarantee (what are normally random) events would occur at the time and place they wanted them to. I think this explains the janky phantom flight path, as well as a couple of the AI moments like the Brute going on standby after throwing a nade at the player in the turret.
This custom programming would also include restricting what weapons/ enemies spawn to ensure specific enemy encounters would happen with specific items, and could impact things like the AI behaving oddly.
Forcing a lot of stuff like that to occur, when the entire engine is probably built around dynamic systems and generating some degree of random encounters, is very complex. It would take a long time also, explaining why the build could be anywhere from 2-6 month’s old.

Halo Infinite has been in development for 5 years. It looked much better in 2018. Do you really think that this pandemic that has slowed the development only in the last months out of 5 years of development is meaningful?

We can’t know if the game is going to be good. Halo 4 had bad AI and level design. Halo 5 still had bad AI and a level design specifically made for the ground pound and giving orders to a extremely dumb AI. Halo Infinite’s gameplay isn’t showing any good AI and definitely bad level design. Even weapons are kind of generic and when using the shotgun and that red plasma gun it feels more like a DOOM 2016 than a Halo.

Except it wasn’t for example, the Wrangler (that was the new Mauler right?) had more detail, shadows more detailed etc. so the Trailer is from another Build (A build that was probably not stable enough to be shown off)

2018 was a Engine Demo, not the ACTUAL Game, 2019 was what we could expect from it, and when it comes to the Pilot and Chief and Pelican, it is now 2020 at the same level.
Metro Exodus, Reveal Trailer also looked much better than the actual game later, or Witcher 3 the first trailers much more detail, later not so much anymore.
BUT ALL still looked amazing. The same will got for Infinite.

Maybe. To me the only thing that looks different in that comparison is the lighting (which is dynamic and constantly changing). Perhaps Chief was at a different angle to the sun (Wrangler is in shadow in first picture, in light in the second). It is also possible that they slapped on a bunch of post-processing makeup to the minute-long trailer.

You really think this gameplay looked amazing? Man, it isn’t top even for a One X. Metro Exodus definitely looks better in the release, raytracing graphics in that game are insane. The Witcher 3 was worse, yes. But anyways they were multiplatform third-party games for the current generation. Halo Infinite is… Halo. The biggest production Xbox has to take care of. A game supposedly make to set the new Xbox Series X on fire. And it looks like a pretty standard One X game. Have you played Battlefield or Battlefront on an One X? Red Dead Redemption 2? They can leave the assets as is for RDR2, put it on Xbox Series X, it would deliver a native 4K/60FPS game that absolutely obliterates Halo Infinite, and still would be a lot of room for improvements.

No, I do not like Battlefield since the BF4 Beta, Battlefront never interested me, I don’t own a Xbox One X, I have the One. Of course I played RDR2.
Maybe it’s also the fact that I don’t need super-graphics, especially in Halo where the Story and Gameplay are always more important to me (and Games in general), Graphics are just a little extra. Maybe I’m simply to old and remember the time when people played pixel adventure games like Indiana Jones or Monkey Island and thus not fixated on graphics.

I think there’s a ridiculous amount of content we didn’t get to see though
Sorry, but that’s pretty ridiculous. The demo was very clearly a real development build of the game, and only time will tell how many improvements 343 can make in the last 3 1/2 months until launch.

I think this demo has been recorded weeks/months ago. Such demos aren’t done on 1MD. It s totally normal to add some custom code, sprites,… to them. And no one does rebase them 1d before.
Please remember that a lot of people work on things to make them happen and this year we’re working from home under extremely abnormal situations.
While you are entitled to your opinion, I encourage you all to think about how you are presenting your opinions. Many people, my coworkers, worked on many different aspects of what you saw and while we’ve freely admitted it was not perfect and we are aware there are issues, the content of what you’re saying is insulting to those who are working on things and demoralizing.
We all want a good game. No one likes shipping bad things or seeing people disappointed with the work that’s presented. But being constructive, kind, and understanding goes a lot further than baseless, false claims of, “It was all a hoax!”
If that’s truly what you think, then I encourage you to keep those thoughts to yourself as the claims couldn’t be further from the truth.
