Was Halo 5 better at release or now?

I just watched highlights of the 2017 Halo World Championships. The game was so much more fun then. Had Assault rifles, all grenade types, more weapons available on map,
rockets had more ammo, ground pounds, spartan charge and more made for a much more action packed game way more fun to watch and play. And now… you might as well call the game “Pistol 5” not Halo 5, or Metal slug 5 even better. The pistol play is redundant and repetitive. People argue that the game is more “competitive” now, really the game will always be maximum competitive. Im putting this opinion out there. For the future of the game to be attractive it can’t just be a slugfest of pistols to the face i want to see some alien orbs and beams because thats halo. It’s that Sci Fi art style that makes it unique. Not drifting more toward realism.

At launch it was missing quite a large number of gametypes and playlists. While I’m not thrilled by some of the changes to the weapon tuning or wz req level, the game is still better now than it was at launch simply from the amount of content available.

The game game out in 2015. The 2017 HWC was hardly “at launch”.

Halo 5 seems better now than it did at launch, because at launch it was lacking a lot of the multiplayer experience we expected from a Halo game.

Is Halo 5 better now than it was a year ago? Who knows. That’s a totally different question, anyway.

The game is definitely better now. HCS I guess the “pros” like it more now but yeah nothing but pistolfest can be a bit stale to watch. Too bad H5 doesn’t have a good population because what they really need to do for multiplayer is have a HCS section, ranked and then soical. They each could have their own settings. It seems 343 hasn’t figured out if you want a good population you need to make is so players can play what they want. It seems 343 wants to force players to play a certain way. Oh and those options need to be there from the start not we will add stuff later. H5 launch was bare bones and wasn’t a proper Halo game till the BTB refresh really but by then a lot lost interest in the game by then.

Are you basing the game on one playlist cause that’s what it seems like you’re doing? I think if the game had a decent population it would be better now.

Let me clarify: In competitive play including tourneys do you think the HCS is as enjoyable now as a year or 2 ago? I think from a marketing perspective, a fan persective the game was more fun to observe with all the extra stuff. I liked the novelty of pros getting crafty with various stuff, the explanation point of a good ground pound, busting out an smg out of nowhere and getting a double kill. The pure novelty and giddyness has been replaced with grim magnum play.

I have to agree with Luke - it sounds like you’re talking about a single playlist, and beyond even that, it sounds like you’re talking more about watching the game than playing the game. Of course, you’re right about the inability of the average gamer (or game developer) to make any distinction whatsoever between difficulty, competitiveness, and fun. They assume that the only way to make the game more competitive is to make it harder to play, and what’s worse is that they assume that the harder it is to play the more fun people will find it. Wrong and wrong, says recon.

RAWKET LAWNCHER! I guess Scorpion is the Slug Tank.

Your topic & OP throw me off a bit… anyways, I only recently picked up H5 so I can’t comment on how it was at the beginning. But from some of the videos I have seen, no one has anything good to say about how the game launched.

Also, im with ya on the pistol play & competitiveness of the game. Pistols are pushed everywhere you look, & everything for the most part is super competitive. Maybe because of a low population or the majority of the casual community in long gone, who knows. I do hope the iconic BR can return in infinite & we can put this pistol non sense behind us. We shall see.

I Like the pistol as a starter it’s not an argument against that. It just should be paired with something if not the assault than maybe an smg. I am advocating for spartan abilities too and all grenade types. I think people are seeing automatics as “soft” or unskilled instead of the great equalizer that it is, as a change of pace weapon.

The only thing that stinks is the new ranking system in all playlist! It’s very competitive now which sucks! You can’t just relax and play a round like classic halo! Other than that it’s better now than launch!

Nothing beats how relaxing & chill classic Halo was. Whenever I have friends over we just play H3 splits screen, way better.

now

I remember the SMG being deadlier and more effective. I loved it before, I still use it but I hoped it stayed the same.

The sound engineering really needs to change. The guns need more “crunch”, as Cliffy B used to say.

When I looked back to watch spartan charge, ground pound, and the assault rifle were barely used so I don’t understand.

Watching HCS events now compared to a year or two ago, there’s not much difference. Maybe a little AR action in close range fights and some direct impact splinter nades and area denial with them but that’s about it. Besides, seeing people fly around the map is always interesting to watch and teach myself.

It was better in the beta.

I mean for the most part the only thing that was truly better at launch was the population. I suppose if you really hate where the weapon tuning and REQ cost modifications took the sandbox you could argue that too; otherwise, just about everything else is better now. Oh, and maybe losing a favorite playlist that hasn’t returned by way of the rotational options or having a permanent playlist become a rotational option could be a couple other reasons.

I’d say that the game is about the same as it was at the start. It began missing a lot of content many people, including myself, believe it should have started with. However, back then there were a lot of players as well so matchmaking and finding similarly skilled players for matches wasn’t an issue. The best time for Halo 5 was right around the middle when there was a mixture of increased content, and a larger player base.

Honestly Imo I’d preferred Halo 5 at Launch, yes it didn’t have content at launch, but I had so much fun playing it back in 2015, now I find it really boring
