We went from Halo Reach, A game that had -Yoink- Art design and graphics for it’s time. It really gave Halo a realistic feel for. SCI FI shooter. The core Art design for maps and Spartans was awesome (Not including forge world maps)
Maps like BoneYard, Countdown, Reflection, Even Headlong were great art style. SCI FI but realism.
Then we got halo4 which forced halo to lose it’s iconic halo feel and turned the game into a “Gay as a rainbow” looking game mixed with cartoons for kiddies.
It was no longer red vs blue but Pastel Pink vs Pastel Baby Blue.
Running around on multiplayer maps that looked like they were straight out of a warner brothers cartoon of Lola bunny and roadrunner. Exile & Meltdown being classic examples.
Even the human maps art design was gay, (with exception of Adrift)
But only because there was too much of the same,
The human maps like skyline with all those smooth rounded edges for walls would have been ok IF hat wasn’t THE ONLY art design featured for human maps.
If there was a mix between the soft overly SCI FI edged human maps on some Mp maps and on other Mp maps there was more gritty style art like what we saw in reach maps like Boneyard, combined with all the beautiful forunner and Covi maps then the game would be perfectly balanced. Bunt instead all we got in halo 4 was maps where the lighting contrast was cranked all the way up to maximum brightness and a pastel soft smooth colour scheme that just looked Gay! That’s the only word that fits. It looked Gay. Like halo for the gay community mixed in with cartoons for the kiddies.
Is halo 5 going to be the same?
What ever happened to the good old iconic halo feel that games used to provide? Oil spills in the concrete under the tank, normal corners of walls instead of rounded smooth edges every single time on human maps making it TOO Sci Fi.
Halo is already Max Sci Fi u don’t need to try make it MORE Sci Fi u need to keep it Sci Fi while maintaining some sort of realism.
Less cartoony and some realistic art design to balance out the over board Sci Fi. Halo reach did this well I’m hoping halo 5 does it better and doesn’t serve us up another plate of Gay Homosexualness. They may aswell have Put the gay nation flag on the cover of halo 4 and told them that all the right happy colours will make u feel happy and gay if u okay our game. And also listed it as PG for the kids due to the cartoonyness of the maps.
The only map that got it half right was Adrift.
As for forunner maps, Haven was excellent, Monolyth was excellent.
But when all ur map structures for human maps look exactly like the white smooth blocks on skyline then u start to look gay. Where the factory and industrial mix like boneyards art style from reach to give the game some MANLINESS ???!!!
Hopefully halo5s art designer has a better understanding. Although I’m not confident due to how cartoony the Spartans looked in the beta.
The maps were an improvement but let’s face it they were still very smoothed cornered and Sci Fi WHICH IS GOOD AS LONG AS ON OTHER HUMAN MAPS WE HAVE SOMETHING THATS A LITTLE MIRE MANLY AND IN TOUCH WITH REALITY LIKE HALO REACHES ART STYLE IN HUMAN MAPS.
That way the whole game windy seem cartoony and childish and u won’t have to use such bright gay contrasts all the time. U can make a dark gloomy depressing oily dirty map here and there to give it a mature feel as well instead of neglecting your adult audience.
