I am not sure if 343 is making out Warzone to be competitive or not. The way it was presented made it seem more strategic than just a casual game mode.
You have to control objectives and bosses. I could see this being competitive, but the scale of it being 12v12 could make that more unrealistic. I think the whole The Requisition packs thing is similar to buying weapons like in CS:GO, in the way of being rewarded. And it might not be a BTB replacement, BTB could still be a game mode. So what do you guys think?
I don’t think it should be considered or added into competetive. It looks more like an upgraded BTB and with a size of 12 players/team with A.I.
It’s a really cool gametype but it doesn’t really meet up with the standards of what’s required to go into the competetive circuit.
Warzone is for fun and fun…
It shouldn’t be competitive, their is other mode for that
It seems to me more like an Invasion meets Spartan Ops sorta thing, to put in Halo terms( or in non-halo terms a bit like Planetside 2 meets Battlefront). It doesn’t seem to be competitive, just a new, bigger experience.
It is most definitely not competitive lol. I wonder how success will be measured in Wargames. It’s not like KDR means anything when one is killing grunts. Also, win/loss ratio wouldn’t mean much when its 12v12vAI. I guess capture points or victory points or whatever they called them may be the measure.
Its super casual. Even though everyone “starts” equal, with the ability of adding any weapon to your arsenal with the right amount of points, its guaranteed to be a non-competitive game mode. AKA the one i will be spending most of my time in because Fun!
It should be about fun and having a good time. Plenty of competitive players have plenty of competitive playlists and custom game options they can strip down and make them BR only with nothing on the map.
Warzone is it’s own entity and should be treated as such.
I’m so glad they came out with this gamemode. The last time I had fun in BTB was in Halo 3 but pretty much after that, every BTB game became stale. This seems like it will most likely get me back into playing some casual fun with some friends whenever we don’t feel like becoming too competitive on certain days.

I agree completely. The videos I have seen – the gameplay is just too random and chaotic to call it competitive. Honestly, they should give you a separate rank and exp for warzone alone. K/D and win/loss wouldn’t really matter, rather strategic accomplishments would measure your skill.

Hard to implement but would be fun
… I do not fear any BNET player as an individual and it is respect I have for the results they get when they roll in full teams. When you see a BNET vs BNET match, you will understand the competitive nature of Warzone’s setup.
The problem arises in that overall, it’s not played at high a competitive level by many of those that will play it. Only teams will play like a team, the rest of the randoms will do what they do and either a win will occur by luck of chaos action or luck of having teams stacked, skill-wise.
Which… Is not much different than BTB as it is now.
If we are to apply the ideal of “intensely competitive” such as MLG and HCS strive to be, it is very true Warzone may be too large in scope. 6x6 is about as large as it can get before we really have to start thinking in 2-3 coaches acting as handlers for their smaller units within the overall team to keep the chatter coherent… And that would take both Skype over a secondary PC/laptop/tablet running beside a party chart to break things up!!!
It’s not that it can’t be done, it’s that the basic idea is to be a much larger sandbox interaction where control over battle situations themselves is more important than control over players.
This game mode is mainly about having fun. There are lots of variables in this game mode that don’t make it as competitive as some people might like.
This gametype however has the potential to be my most favorite multiplayer game mode made so far!
MLG competitive, no, never… but with a few tweaks you could ensure the better player always wins.
- Weapons on map - Vehicles on map - Req points need to disappear - Vehicles need to be stronger (Spartans are stronger now, so should vehicles)
No and that is a good thing, can’t wait to just mess around in that sandbox.

I agree. She’s really annoying–makes the game almost unbearable! What happened to old Halo titles that would just let you play on your own and you would only hear the snarl of “Double Kill”, “Revenge”, and “Killing Spree” from Jeff Steitzer. Now the game tells you how to do everything and tells you when guns are available, when bases are being seized, and when the enemy is most vulnerable. If they are trying to make the least competitive playlist in Halo history they did it. The only thing I want to hear is Jeff Steitzer’s bada** voice. And what’s even worse? They made his voice suck too.
WHAT THE YOINK IS GOING ON HERE?
Tournament style? I doubt it.
But there is an objective, and the competition is to finish the objective so I don’t want to simply be like, oh it’s just a fun social gametype, I don’t want to win.
It will be competitive because its halo. It too should have skill based matchmaking. It doesn’t have to work on win/loss, but should for sure match up based on skill. I don’t know why you guys dont think competitive is fun when competitive just means playing to win. But the real deal is that this gamemode will be lesser without balanced teams. This can be seen by the e3 videos. Good players are being held back by bad players. In one scenario for instance the team only goes for bases and loses. This is because they don’t know what theyre doing. I want to be matched both on and against a team that knows what it’s doing.

When people say “competitive” on these forums they usually mean “an e-sport”.
lol
