343i said a while back that they might introduce a PvE-only version of Warzone if there was a high enough demand for it. Since Halo 5 doesn’t have anything like Firefight or Spartan Ops for those of us who prefer to play alone, I think it needs this more than anything.
I have an idea of how it could work. Bear with me, and let me tell you about Warzone Survival…
Warzone Survival has you holding the map against waves of Covenant and Promethean enemies. Enemies will attack each of the bases just like in normal Warzone, and you’ll have to capture and hold them to prevent them from getting to the power cores. You have to defend both cores; if you lose both of them, the game ends in defeat. Much like in the Generator Defense gametype in Halo: Reach, you have the ability to lock down capture points; this will prevent enemies from getting inside and allow you focus your efforts elsewhere, for a short time. As with regular Warzone, the game ends when you reach 1,000 points.
If you prefer to play the game solo, you still have a team of AI squadmates backing you up, just like in Campaign; only you can customize these AI Spartans using whatever armor you’ve unlocked through Requisitions. Just like in Campaign, they can be commanded to take control of vehicles, focus fire on specific enemies, or pick up weapons. You can also customize their loadouts at Req Terminals. You can even assign them vehicles if you have enough energy to spend.
Also, Team Colors would be disabled in Warzone Survival; obviously, you don’t need them in a game mode without opposing teams…
Unlike normal Warzone, you don’t use up Req cards; all requisitions are unlocked by default, but as always you’ll need to increase your Reg Level by defeating enemies to get your hands on more powerful weapons and vehicles. Likewise, you wouldn’t earn any Req Points or XP for playing Warzone Survival; this game mode would be strictly for fun, the PvE equivalent to Custom Games.
