This isn’t a rage post coming off a loss or anything. I’ve been running Warzone to collect RP and I can’t help but point out some serious flaws that hold it back from being a great battlefield style map. Before I go into it, people might say Warzone is not meant to be taken seriously. That’s my point, people treat it like a joke. I think if it was more competitively designed it would be more fun. Here’s why it isn’t.
-Spawn points seem random around bases.
-Some spawn points put you out in front of the base directly onto the battlefield with snipers just waiting for you.
-Sometimes the you’ll spawn out of bounds resulting in immediate death.
-Bosses never seem to be awarded to the people that deserved the boss kill.
-Certain maps have vehicles being deployed in an open battlefield where you’re locked in an animation till you exit thus making you a sitting duck
-No limit, cooldown or any type of control regarding the number of vehicles that can be out at once.
-Teammates can kill or injury each other by running over them.
-Teammates can also Spartan Charge each other around giving a troll and a cliff the perfect opportunity to kill teammates.
-Base weapons are awarded by random luck meaning you could be level 70+ and still not have a DMR.
-People who have paid lots of money to have a massive stockpile of powerweapons/vehicles can easily turn games around.
-No team balance giving large Fireteams an easy chance to farm games.
-No option to preset loadouts meaning you must deal with the laggy REQ menu navigating through tons of crap just to find something.
I feel like I’m missing something. Either way some of these issues are less important, but they all effect the enjoyment of the game. And 343 don’t take this as an insult, I’m trying to provide constructive criticism.
Warzone seems like it had the potential to be something amazing, but then MS came along and forced the REQ system to be an integral part of the gamemode. I think it would have been a lot better if there was a REQ store where you could just buy what you wanted when you wanted it.
No REQ unlocks. Everyone spawns with a choice of preset loadout weapon options based on personal preference (eg. DMR, BR, AR, etc.). All Loadout weapons are available to everyone from the start.
No spawning in vehicles. All vehicles can be obtained on map or spawned in by the team capturing a base and calling in a vehicle drop (note, this would be a team effort, not just some guy calling in a banshee because he got lucky and unlocked it via REQ pack).
All power weapons can either be found on the map or by capturing an objective point (think Firefight weapon drops or power weapon drops in Invasion Slayer).
Weapon upgrades (different scopes, bayonets, suppressors, etc.) are available to everyone and can be purchased based on the amount of REQ points you’ve earned through completing objectives and getting kills throughout the match (think CS:GO style weapon purchase system).
Higher player count. Why be limited to 12v12 when we could go bigger, like 16v16, or 32v32?
Bigger emphasis on vehicular play. How cool would it be if you were capable of flying a pelican or a scarab and driving your teamates over to the enemy base and have a scarab battle or a pelican dogfight?
As for NPCs or bosses, honestly, as long as the encounters don’t interfere with the PvP elements and are diverse enough to not make people hate them, I’d say keep them. Otherwise, just allow for a really large PvP vehicular focused map, you know, an actual Warzone; the thing that the gametype is named after!

So DICE Battlefield mixed in with a little Planetside 2 that would be cool.

> -People who have paid lots of money to have a massive stockpile of powerweapons/vehicles can easily turn games around. Again, depends, I haven’t used a single penny on the game and I have a huge stockpile to choose from (Except Phaetons)

I had a video that showed two different Warzone maps that have a spawn point in front of a base where another base is right across from you. So if the enemy has that adjacent base that means you literally spawn in crossfire. It even showed enemies aiming near that spawn point waiting. You have to run as fast as you can inside the base for cover. But I’d have to re-upload it cause YouTube has my account on lock down. But I constantly get weird spawns. Sometimes you’ll spawn right outside your base, other times you’ll spawn on the other side of the map… no where near the base you selected.
As for bosses… who gets the kill seems like a complete gamble. I’ve gotten kills for bosses I only whacked a couple times before stopping to kill an enemy. I’ve taken entire health bars down to the last pixel only for a passing vehicle to take it. I’ve seen the kill go to enemies who hit the boss but died, then our team gets the last hit and it still rewards the enemy team. Boss kills are important, most matches I only see a few people actively hunting down bosses. A lot of people don’t go after them mainly cause they don’t feel like they’re getting anything out of it.
I wouldn’t mind the vehicles hurting teammates if people didn’t do it on purpose. Same goes for Spartan Charging. Or a teammate will Spartan Charge your Ghost or Gungoose to flip you out of it and steal it.
Lastly I made a mock up for preset loadouts, I think it would be cool to have something like this: Preset Loadout Template
I think for the first time its been shown in the halo universe its done a great job. I enjoy it. There are a few problems with the bosses. I wish there were more of them but for less points. etc. They should make a gamemode where the AI arn’t included maybe? Also maybe a competitive mode where you don’t use reqs but you can only use the Base style weapons e.g the normal sniper or rocket launcher. but don’t cost reqs?

So basically Big team battle dominion from Halo 4 with REQ stations featuring battlefield maps with oversized vehicles.
I like the fact that you can spawn your own vehicles and weapons because scavenging weapons off the ground really isn’t my thing. Besides IO can also get my weapon commendations and vehicle commendations done. But yeah I’d rather see even bigger maps with vehicles like the scarab or the mammoth into play. Having 32 v 32 would also be incredible but make it that you can only have a fireteam of 8.
