Warzone & REQ Feedback

Loving the game, loving Warzone. Just a few things that I need to rant about, though, so bear with me

  1. There needs to be a way to track your XP outside of the post-game carnage report and waypoint. 1 out of 3 games, I get the error where it fails to produce a carnage report, which means that I have to go to Halo Waypoint to see what my current XP is, or even if I leveled. Kinda silly.

  2. The ability to create loadout presets based on your current REQ stage in Warzone would be great. Just little player-made selections that consist of a custom name, preset primary weapon, secondary weapon, and armor mod. You could even design it such that a loadout selection will appear to be “locked” until you’ve reached the highest REQ level required by the items in its selection. For example, a loadout preset that consists of a Battle Rifle, Assault Rifle, and no armor mod will appear “locked” until you reach REQ Level 3. A loadout with a BR, AR, and Upgraded Shields armor mod will appear locked until you reach REQ Level 5.

  3. You should be able to see the REQ Level requirement printed on the REQ card when you view it in your collection. As it stands, when you pull a card out of a pack or view it from the “Collection” menu, there’s no way to tell what it’s in-game REQ Level requirement is. You have to go into a Warzone game to find out. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s one of the tiny inconveniences that dampens the experience.

  4. The DMR’s REQ level cost is too high. The most basic DMR is a rare Level 6, takes five shots to kill, and comes equipped with a x3 longshot scope. For comparison, a Sentinel Battle Rifle with a long-barrel attachment is a rare Level 5, kills in four shots, and comes equipped with a x4/x6 variable scope plus a range boost. How does that make any sense?

  5. While we’re on the subject of the DMR, the DMR is too freaking rare. I’m at Spartan Rank 35 and I still haven’t pulled a single version of the gun out of a REQ pack. And I’ve spent quite a bit of $$$ on Gold REQ packs (because I’m a salivating addict, you monsters), and purchasing the Warzone REQ Bundle. I understand its effective range makes it a powerful weapon, but it is a basic loadout weapon - a loadout weapon that happens to be less powerful than the BR in terms of damage - not a power weapon. It shouldn’t be this difficult to acquire.

  6. I really do love the REQ system, but there is a very significant problem with REQ packs: the pool of permanent cards is massively diluted by the huge number of cosmetic cards in it. For those of us who would actually like to have a decent selection of loadout weapons (or, you know, at least one DMR…kinda bitter about that…), it gets a little frustrating to open five or six silver/gold REQ packs in a row, only to be rewarded with a pair of ugly helmet paint-job variants as the permanents. There needs to be some way to separate permanent cards that affect the game from the cosmetic cards (75% of which the average player won’t ever use). Or at least trim down the overlap between the two pools.

  7. Commendation REQ packs and Promotion REQ packs (the ones you receive when you rank-up) are way too low in value. They need to contain more cards, and include permanents. If you think about it, why would I bother to go through the trouble of earning Commendation Level 5/5 for the Plasma Pistol when the only thing I get out of it is the equivalent of a Bronze REQ Pack and an XP bonus equal to 1/3 of a warzone match? Reaching the Level 5/5 commendation for weapons should reward you with something more substantial - more cards, and more permanent cards. For example, I just unlocked the Level 5/5 SMG commendation. It wouldn’t be unreasonable for the SMG REQ Pack to contain a random SMG variant card.

  8. Gold REQ Packs cost too many REQ points for their content. I understand that they contain more cards of a higher rarity, but they cost twice as much as a silver pack and offer the same number of permanent cards. Why would I save up 10,000 REQ points to buy a Gold Pack, from which I might pull out two uncommon permanents, when I can spend 10,000 and buy two silver packs and possibly pull out four rare permanent cards? Either Gold Packs should not contain the possibility of uncommon permanents, should cost 7,500 RP, or should contain more than two permanent cards.

  9. Bronze packs are kind of broken. There’s no reason to buy them - they contain too few cards, they don’t contain any rarity above common, and permanents are not guaranteed (and if you do crack a permanent, it will only be a common). Plus, you earn the equivalent of a bronze pack every time you rank-up or get a commendation pack. Bronze packs should guarantee permanents, include uncommons by default, offer the chance for a rare, and contain one or two additional cards per pack.

  10. Hypothetically, would it be possible for there to be a REQ card market where you could spend REQ points to buy specific cards? You’d have to make it REQ points only, no micro-transactions, to avoid exploitation, but that’s a fairly easy thing to set up. Obviously a single specific card would have to cost a great deal of points (so that REQ packs don’t lose their validity), and a card’s point cost would increase with rarity, but this would make it at least a little easier for those of us who are looking for that one elusive singleton. For example, you could buy a single-use sniper rifle (Uncommon Level 6) for 1250 - the same cost as a bronze pack, which would give you a lot more cards. Or, you could buy a specific permanent cards, like the Recon SMG, for 15,000 REQ points. That’s a single, specific ultra-rare permanent for the cost of three silver packs (six randomized permanents and a ton of one-offs of common to rare rarity). There could always be cards (mythics, etc.) that are only found in packs, but this would allow players to save up REQ points and buy the cards they really want for a high price. It would still take a lot of time to unlock all the cards you wanted, (maybe introduce a system where you have to reach a certain SR before you can buy certain rarities in the store) so there isn’t an out-of-the-gate advantage to anyone, and as soon as you’re content with your unlock selection, you go back to opening REQ packs instead.

  11. Earning Boss Takedown medals (“Takedown Participation”) is oddly inconsistent. About 75% of the time, I’ll be spraying down a boss, doing a noticable amount of damage, but when he finally goes down, I don’t get the takedown medal or points, and Palmer credits “Teammates” for the kill. One time I unloaded a full compliment of Hydra rockets and three BR magazines into Tank Master Rok’s exposed backside, but didn’t get a medal because some teammate with an assault rifle scored the killing blow. On the other hand, in the most recent game I played, I was awarded a Legendary Takedown medal for killing Captain Hestro while I was dead and waiting to respawn, and I hadn’t even laid eyes on Hestro yet.

Okay…that was a long rant. I’ve been thinking about this a lot…
All complaints aside, I’m really happy with what you guys have done with the game. Warzone and the REQ system are amazingly fun, and I expect to keep playing for months to come. I’m a huge fan of the Halo Universe, and you’ve delivered a really great product with Halo 5. Thanks for putting so much stock in player feedback. We all love you guys

I agree with your points #3 ~ #9…

Especially point #3 and #4 in particular… real bitter about 343i playing “keep-away” with the DMR… really upsets me

Railguns are REQ Lv4 for crying-out-loud… MOST DMRs are available for use at REQ Lv8!!! That’s like… I’d just spawn a Mantis at that level and be done with the game a minute and a half later…

What’s the point in having permanent unlocks that we can only use at the end of matches? Provided we even do well enough to get Lv8…
Most games my REQ Level only reaches 6 or 7; I only get 8 and 9 when my team is dominating real good…

If they’re going to continue keeping all my DMRs in the Level 8 slot, then they can just have them back, I don’t want guns I hardly will ever use…
…or maybe I could just play another game and say “forget Halo 5 and it’s unreasonable gameplay mechanics”

Star Wars Battlefront looks pretty good!

Kann mich meinem Vorrednern nur anschließen. Genau die Punkte kann ich ebenso aufzählen und würde es wünschen wenn dort ein paar Änderungen eintreffen würden.

Yeah the DMR nonsense is too much. So many players don’t have one, why so stingy? And for f*!k sake level 6 req is way too much it should open at 4.

Good post lots of solid ideas here.

I concur good sir.

It’s a-okay for me.

I’m digging the unlock system that is the req pack. Gives it an mmo drop chance excitement similar to Destiny. Also glad the packs aren’t ridiculously expensive. The cost of each seems very fair.
