Warzone is a chaotic mess where anything goes. Sure, good players will always beat bad players on equal terms but Warzone is not going to give you too many fights that can be considered fair.
I suspect that for a lot of people, Warzone isn’t satisfying that “Large-scale warfare itch” that we are used to. At least not when you compare it to Big Team Battle. BTB really set the standard for Halo’s large-scale warfare because it was more or less just what Arena is but on a way bigger map and with more players. The ground rules didn’t change. Weapons had to be sought after and secured as a team. Vehicles added something new to the mix and their supply was limited, you couldn’t just call in a thousand Ghosts because you felt like it.
BTB is better because it still has a level of predictability whereas Warzone has completely thrown that out the window. For example, on Exile in Halo 4 you could predict that the enemy is either going to be driving a Scorpion, Banshee or a Warthog (or all 3, etc). You could adjust your tactics and playstyle accordingly and although a tank can still easily destroy you, you never felt like it was cheap because you knew that it was a part of the mix right from the beginning of the match. You could have gotten the damn thing yourself if you and your team worked harder for it.
Power Weapons should not be handed out and used by more than 10 players simultaneously. It just makes everything a mess. The energy system helps but it’s still not enough. Bottom line: Power Weapons and Vehicles are meant to be earned (and kept) by displaying skill, teamwork and map control.
Warzone is a shooting gallery that rarely gets tactical unless you’re playing with full teams. The last shot system with bosses rewards players who spawn with power weapons and use them at absurdly unfair distances and angles. The map size isn’t even anything to really brag about. Yes they’re big but they feel claustrophobic and congested. Tanks have barely any room to maneuver around and with 24 enemy players running around, you’re going to get boarded or lasered. Best case scenario, you camp. Yes, camp, with a Tank.
The middle bases are impossible to avoid if you want to get around the map at all. March on Stormbreak is a great example of this, there’s literally only one way to not go through the middle Fortress and it’s a small tunnel that takes you right into the open with no cover in front of their bunker. Imagine if BTB got upsized to 24 players and was literally just a bigger big team battle. It would be amazing! I get what they were trying to do with Warzone but if you ask me, BTB is still better.
Warzone is not the successor that Halo deserves, at least not in it’s current form. Make Warzone better or start making actual BTB maps, not Forge maps.
Warzone may have its flaws, but the idea is that your supposed to have fun and do whatever, whenever. Sure it may have some of its flaws and I will admit, they need to improve on some things in warzone (such as storm break… either go suicide through the fortress, or have yourself exposed to the armory.) But I like the idea of it being chaotic. BTB is just a more organised version of warzone where skill matters. Warzone? Just luck. Luck or have a big money pouch.
I will definitely agree however that the maps need to be waaaaay bigger for warzone. I seem to have a hard time trying to drive a scorpion around over 1 minute without it being destroyed. Better yet, attempting to not run my teammates over, for the fact that the damn thing takes almost the whole road… Not to mention I also love spawning in with a power weapon, moving a whole 2 meters annnnd dead. Because of a sniper sitting there with his no visibility helmet and coolant pack. Warzone can definitely improve with some space, as well as some spawn improvements, and maybe power weapon insurance (like 5 or 10 seconds before you can lose that weapon.).

I like the idea of a chaotic battlefield too and BTB is already pretty good at that. Bump BTB up to 24 players and the chaos will unfold while still being something that can be considered fair.
What the point in comparing WZ to BTB? They are both two different game modes. WZ wasn’t meant to be like BTB. I personally enjoy both and love to switch between balanced gameplay and chaotic WZ.
It’s so annoying that people have to keep complaining over and over…

I understand that Warzone is supposed to be different but it has flaws that are holding it back and BTB is suffering for it because we still don’t have a single non-Forge map.

Who cares about forge maps? I like them. Halo is all about gameplay. If you prefer graphics over gameplay then you’re playing the wrong game sir.
I think they should add more objectives aside from bosses, like escort X Ai from Point A to Point B through enemy territory or something or have the AI attack player bases sometimes (E.G on Raid on Apex 7 the covenant controls all the bases and the players kill them to take them, so every now and again more covenant attack the bases to try and take them back)

This. They need to add AI who try to take back the bases.
i really wanted to like BtB, it’s been my de facto mode for a long time but it’s clear 343 isn’t going to support it.
better learn to like warzone or fine a new game
Ehh, Warzone is fine the way it is, but as a competitive player who loves to win, I stay away from it due to the unpredictability. 343 should add an unranked BTB playlist with the Warzone ones though.
I agree the map size may be big, but maps a littered with structures and vehicles can’t maneuver and get boarded all the time…
I only play Warzone Assault as a result because it gives you at least a hint of how great invasion used to be.
I would love if 343i would add RBTB (really big team battle) so we would have btb in arena mode and rbtb in warzone next to standart warzone and warzone assault. it would be 12 vs 12 with no req system but powerweapons and vehicles placed on strategic point on the maps. maps could be recycled warzone maps without 50-70% of structures to leave more open space for driving
I agree with a lot of what you said. Most games are completely one sided and the randomness of it just makes it less enjoyable than any other playlist. I think the REQ system is cool but it also causes a “when it rains it pours” dynamic to the game. Also I don’t think any of the maps are particularly great, A.R.C. is easily the best, but all of them feature a middle base that tends to stay with the first team to capture it all round. I’m sure some will say “use teamwork” and you’d be correct but isn’t this supposed to be the casual mode for this game?
Warzone can be fun but I can only play 2 or 3 rounds at a time before I’m frustrated and go back to Arena.
Warzone is absolutely terrible the req system is stupid and the last hit thing is also dumb. Basically your whole team needs to take the ghost enemy and try to tank the 24 grenades the enemy throws at the objective
