Why is it so consistently bad? Look at the teams’ CSR differences. Mostly Bronze-Platinum players vs mostly Onyx/Champ players. What a -Yoinking!- joke. It wouldn’t be bad if this were a rare thing but it is not. I’d use Focused search settings but when I do I get JIPed into about 90% of my games.

I don’t think matching Bronze against Champ is good for any PvP game-type, no matter how casual.

Casual means it’s not going to take Arena Ranks into account. And if there is a champ on the opposing team, there is probably a “Onxy or 2” on yours.

There still has to be some form of CSR based matchmaking to ensure consistently fun games.
In this instance we’ve got Red team with: 3 Champ, 4 Onyx, 3 Diamond, 1 Plat, 1 unranked against Blue team’s: 2 Onyx (yes you were correct), 1 Diamond, 3 Plat, 2 Gold, 2 Bronze, 2 unranked. Red has 7 players who have placed Onyx or better while Blue has 2. Blue also has 6 members who have placed no higher than Gold, while Red team’s lowest placement was 1 Plat player and 1 unranked (which looks to be an alt or smurf account).

You were playing against a full party. I’ve run into some of those people on occasion and I’m surprised they didn’t farm you since they’ll do that sometimes.
The matching system has been like that since the beginning and it’s pretty dumb. It’s worse playing against full parties because you get a couple decent people and the rest are usually below average even though the full party has mainly all onyx players.
Edit: Here’s a game from last night which is one example of what we’re talking about. Full party of mainly onyx, 2 champions, and a few diamond - unranked. The highest level on my team was a 1500 onyx, a couple diamonds and the rest were platinum - silver. Had two other onyx players where one quit in the game and I’m guessing the other one quit in the JIP pregame lobby as well as another high diamond that did the same.
I played them on several occasions in the past so I know what they do and I usually just hide until they core. They got me before so I could do that so I had to kill a little bit before I got to hide again. My team took a base and basically got farmed for several minutes until I told them to let them have the base and end the game which they did and the enemy team cored shortly afterwards.
