Warzone for Windows 10 in addition to Forge

Recently, 343 Industries and Microsoft have announced “Forge - Halo 5: Guardians Edition” for Windows 10 which will be a port of Halo 5 containing only the Forge and Custom Games components which will release for free. As a Halo fan who decided to switch to PC gaming instead of buying an Xbox One, I couldn’t be happier to hear about this. We’ve had Halo: Spartan Assault and Strike release on Windows and Steam, Halo Wars 2 is coming out this fall on PC, and now this! In preparation I logged onto Halo Waypoint for the first time since Halo 4 and found out that I could customize my Spartan, download Forge Maps and Gametypes, and spend promotional REQ points on REQ packs.

Which brings me to my point.

As you know, REQ packs grant Armor and Weapons Skins as well as Weapons and Vehicles for use in Warzone. Once Forge releases for Windows 10 they only way players can obtain Cosmetic items is to purchase REQ Packs with cash. Even when doing so, most of the purchased items will be for use in Warzone only.

If Warzone were to also release for Windows 10 in addition to or separate from Forge, players would then be able to earn REQ points, unlock Cosmetics, and use Warzone REQ Cards on the PC release. Hopefully if this were to be released for PC it would be free because Microsoft and 343 could then make sales off of the REQ Packs purchased by the PC Halo Community.

Warzone also gives new players a taste of PVP and PVE, and if they want more they can still purchase Halo 5 for Xbox One, giving them the full Halo 5 experience of Campaign and Competitive Multiplayer.

On a side note with the topic of Forge and Warzone, Halo 5 Mythic Weapons should come to Forge Mode. We were teased with the Prophet’s Bane being placed on Truth in the Halo 5: Guardians Beta, now we can’t even spawn it or the newly released Jorge’s Chaingun in Forge.

I hope the community agrees that my points are valid and even if you disagree you should still leave a comment on this topic and voice your opinion and ideas.

I don’t see it happening, functionality as the first reason. I saw in an interview of someone they said it will run off a different engine, which would mean they would have to design warzone to work off this new engine. Secondly warzone is a significant portion of Halo 5’s multiplayer, to simply give it away for free would give away half the game. Cause lets be real, the campaign doesn’t even count anymore.
The only way I can see it possibly happening, which I don’t see happening, would be if they were to release a trial mode to PC. Exclusively on escape from A.R.C, perhaps some limited functionality and maybe a mongrel mode between warzone and warzone assault. Simply a teaser, nothing more.

TBH I would even be fine paying at most $30 for Warzone PC but no more, especially since it has microtransactions. I thought Warzone would be better to bring to PC over Arena because its a more casual mode and the REQs are more useful for it. Didn’t hear about the different engine though, can you link your source?

I cannot so I know it sounds bogus haha, I believe it was bravo talking to jay fresh so it may have been in the MoR livestream I am not totally sure but if I can dig anything up i’ll post it here. A paid warzone expansion seems reasonable but I don’t see it happening for Halo 5. I’m pretty sure they’re just porting forge cause they realised they actually made a really powerful tool which is hard to use to it’s full potential on console. Porting it is beneficial to them as it allows them to have better maps built by the community, as well as give non Halo players a taste of the game.

Completely agree, I just think unlocking some cosmetics and PVE would be great for PC. And about MS and 343 making money: Free-to-play isn’t anything new and they even tried it with Russia’s Halo Online, I could see them making it work if they really tried.

I understand that. Perhaps if they implemented a different unlock system? Reduced the armour pool (most of it is crap anyway) and allowed you to receive credits on a block placed basis or user review process of some sort so as to avoid boosting for pretty armour. And I wish they would, I really wanted to play halo online but it just doesn’t seem to be in 343i’s interests at the moment.
