Also contains a video showing how it plays, and how the gameplay is handled. The gist of it? Rounds are capped at 5 minutes, with various objectives and areas you and your team need to head to for progression into the next round. REQ payout is determined by how many rounds you complete, and if the time runs out, game over.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Also, teamplay and coordination are paramount to success here.
Sounds fun and really interesting! But honestly I wouldnt call it firefight. Firefight was characterized by how many rounds you could complete and it was simply survival, this is more like “Do everything as fast as possible! Kill kill kill” misses the couch co-op survival that made it popular so while this sounds epic and fun I wouldnt really say that “firefight is back” but rather a cool take on it has emerged
This reminds me a lot of Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer, which is an absolutely blast. I’d say that it’s a good thing! I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on this soon.

If it’s matchmaking only, then probably not.
If they’re considering adding a version for customs, then maybe. If they’re not considering it, then they’ll probably consider it with enough noise being made. The entire reason to ever host a beta for something like this is for feedback. They really don’t want to screw this up, it seems.
There would be no purpose to give us a work-in-progress look otherwise.

I’m impressed, far more than I expected to be. I thought it would just be “kill x amount of enemies” for 5 rounds, and I couldn’t be more happy to be wrong. They weren’t kidding when they said that you would have to play 100’s of games to find the same objective combination.
I really don’t know about this. I mean, it looks fun, but I have three primary reservations.
It’s not what I associate with firefight. When I see that game mode, I think limited lives, limited stock of weaponry, game progresses when either they’re corpses or you are. This is more along the lines of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer featuring the Patriarch from Killing Floor. It’s not that it won’t be worth playing, but this just isn’t what I had in mind.
No weapons on the map. I guess my problem is that, if reqs become as necessary as they say, I’m at the mercy of RNG as to what my options are and when. That’s my general issue with warzone, and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that it’s also present in warzone firefight, but I’m a bit disappointed. We’ve traded “I’d better be damn sure I take this sniper to the right spot and use it on the right foreheads” for “boy, I sure hope this next gold pack has a decent weapon for next match”.
The ability to respawn, and indeed the ability to pull a tank from the planet’s core itself, just removes a lot of the tension of firefight. I appreciate that 343 displayed cognizance of that and added a round time limit to put some of that tension back in, but I’m just not sure I like the trade.
On the whole, it’s a shrewd and clever way of reusing assets to add something new, but it’s just not what I had in mind.
I really hope 343 continue to improve firefight after launch. Dont get me wrong, it looks great but imagine what they could do if they continue to support it.
I’m hoping there’s more than just warden for mythic bosses. Although hopefully I can wrap up the warden commendation a bit easier now. This should also help with AI kills for company commendations.
I really hope IGN was just hyping the ‘team-cooperation’ element in the mode. I always play Halo while listening to a podcast or watching a show, so I don’t want to have to cooperate with teammates. I do appreciate they’re making it more difficult than easy, but I hope it’s still possible to do it as a lone player.
