As I’m new to Halo 5, I decided to try out Warzone Firefight last night for the first time, and I must say that in general I do prefer it over fighting against other players, feels much more casual. However, my only complaint is that the enemies fight like they are Heroic or Legendary difficulty (Campaign-wise), and therefore every time I get the chance to use a higher-level REQ I don’t even get to use it because I am killed in one shot even when I try to be careful while approaching. This has then lead me to use REQs very little or not at all, only pulling out Common or Uncommon power weapons against a boss so that I don’t waste my Rares or Ultra-Rares, and even then only using them from as far a distance as I can. Then of course it makes me worry that people will view me as “that noob that only uses the AR and pistol!”. Though, I of course will pick up any weapon from a fallen enemy that I view as an upgrade to the default loadout, but I still barely touch my REQs out of fear of wasting them/not being able to use them. Add the increasing respawn timer to the mix, and it becomes even more difficult to get the chance to use a good REQ, especially against the final boss.
Has anyone else felt like this? Or does anyone have any helpful tips?
Agreed on the more pleasant atmosphere of a human team fighting AI together rather than other players. My time with Firefight confirms what you’re saying: power weapon Reqs are really weak against the bosses; I now use only vehicle Reqs, since those have unlimited ammo to make up for the low impact of each shot against the legendary-difficulty enemies.
Biggest tip: just use warthogs (camo or ONI, as Corp and regular take damage too easily) as splattermobiles for the first 1-3 rounds. (1) Vehicular collision still insta-kills enemies smaller than knights or hunters; (2) you rack up points from kills much more quickly in the earlier rounds, which allows you to call in heavier vehicles to assist with the mid-late rounds; and (3) even in Defend objectives, you drastically lighten the workload of your teammates who are fighting on foot by reducing the numbers and health of the enemy waves that attack the Defend location. Just lay on that horn when rolling up from behind so your teammates get a heads-up that you’re coming through. Hope this helps!

First of all, Welcome to Halo 5 fellow Spartan!
Secondly, yes FireFight can be very tedious and difficult at times, i too don’t use many REQ’s as it’s easy to die, however, i will say that a rocket launcher or a plasma caster can be very efficient. I usually like to wait until the enemy is low health and give him everything i got. I find that tagging along with other players is good too, more firepower. I know this isn’t much but i hope it helps, also, don’t be afraid to just use a BR and a pistol, i use them until i get to level 4 REQ’s.

I definitely swap one of my two starter weapons with a BR the moment I am able (I believe it gives the opportunity after a round or two? I think it’s tied to the level of REQ that the game unlocks?). Just a bit frustrating that good vehicles and weapons are not always available to me at the beginning of the game. And as the REQ levels keep increasing with each round that you complete, it almost feels better to wait and rack up the REQ levels before using one. Because I think I also noticed that when you use a REQ it decreases your level by one?

Yeah BR is definitely a must have until you get more req points. Yeah so lets say you use a level 4 req, 4 points are taken away, which regenerate over a short period of time.

Ah, I haven’t really noticed my REQ point level unless if I die and get to choose a REQ.

It’s always good to keep an eye on it, there’s been a few times i want a really good weapon and forgot i dont have the points back yet.
Well it’s understandable… by the way the Warzone AI actually does more damage than they do on legendary difficulty. 343 thought they would make them spongier and have them do more damage so that they stand more of a chance against players.

Almost all of us feel this way.
Would you mind giving me some information on the status of your REQ collection? It’ll be easier for me to provide tips if I know what weapons. vehicles, and armor mods you have or don’t have.
There are certain reqs that work best on certain boss types.
For example, when against ghosts marauders, overcharge the Void’s tear (Rare plasma pistol- quite easy to get from silver packs). The black hole it creates rip the armor and shields of the elites… then a simple battle rifle burst to the head.
Grunt mech’s hate SAW’s hands down. If you can get ‘The Answer’ version it can be taken down nearly single handed.
final tip, make sure that when you get Armor mods you use them. Super important yo do.
hope this helps a little
