Warzone Firefight so far has been very enjoyable, with high paced gameplay, frantically racing against the clock. In the final rounds, every second count, as the team uses every means possible to chip down the bosses health. However, dying results in a 30 second respawn timer. After spawning in, you will realise that you are another 20 seconds away from the fight. Spawning in a tank will result in half the round gone, as you slowly roll forward towards the objective. Here are some different mechanics that I thought might fit into the game:
Revive Mechanic
Remember the new thing they showcased in campaign? The revive mechanic? How cool and unique would it be if they added that into Firefight. Instead of super long respawn time, downed players would have the option to be revived. This encourages teamwork, and keeps players close and working together. Of course, some types of attacks wouldn’t allow for a respawn, such as a direct hit from a Wraith Mortar. I think this would also increase risk vs reward situations, which mixes things up.
Life Pool Mechanic
To punish deaths, a life pool mechanic could be implemented into the game. Here are several different variations I thought up:
- Team Shared life pool. A certain amount of respawns would be allowed through the game. A respawn would not be used if a player was revived. The amount of respawns would be shared by the whole team, encouraging surviving. However, one bad player in the lobby and the team could be faced with no respawns the rest of the game. Trolls could also exploit this. All players would respawn at the end of the round.
- Individual Life Pool. Instead of sharing respawns as a team, players would get a certain amount of respawns each round (1, or maybe 2 or 3), that reset at the end of every round. This would prevent life wasting trolls, and I think would be a better alternative to the team life pool. However, the only downside would be that a player would have to spectate his teammates after running out of lives. Another alternative would be having more respawns at the start, but would not reset over the course of the round (5-7 lives). All players would respawn at the end of the round.
Instant Death Mechanic
An interesting concept is the sudden death mechanic I thought of. If the whole team is dead at once, the game would end as defeat. That would mean 1 or 2 Spartans would have to focus on surviving, or go into risky situations for the revive if the rest of the team was eliminated. This would add intense moments to the game, as players would try to escape or run for cover.
