Warzone: Banshee Balance

Hey all,

Not a pro here so I could be wrong about this so just understand that I’m not trying to start some balance flame war.

I have an issue with Banshees. I know there are counters for them to some extent like hydras/plasma pistols etc but I feel that these vehicles are just a bit too powerful. of The main problem is an issue with the mechanics behind how the unit works. I see players/have been killed this way where the banshee flips and physically rams into the ground where a spartan is. It insta-kills the spartan but the banshee just gets a bit of shield crackle and does it 3 more times in a row before enough damage is done that it needs to fly away and recharge.

I’d like to see banshee collision changed to where hitting structures/ground is very damaging to the banshee itself. Currently it’s just all too easy to ram people with a banshee. It looks bad and encourages poor play style.

What does everyone else think?

People that do the ram and jam style are very prone to plasma pistols and hijacking, which a lost REQ to the other team is worse than a destroyed REQ.

I do agree to an extent though. A lot of people do employ the kamikaze strategy, with little to no consequence, especially when an uncoordinated warzone team refuses to try and take it down.

Well it’s not just a matter of countering it. What generally happens is that someone kills me like that with their banshee I re spawn with a plasma pistol and chances are the battle has already moved elsewhere. It’s pretty infrequent that once I spawn with a plasma pistol I even engage the banshee much less successfully disable and hijack it. It has happened and I felt pretty great about it when it did but it hardly balances out the issues I have with banshees.

Honestly, one of the biggest issues is just what that ramming type attack looks like. It just looks wrong. Halo is generally a pretty sleek game with nice visuals. Then you’ve got a banshee over here ramming a people on a tower… it just feels way “off”.

Lol… I`m one of those Banshee guys

They may or may not be overpowered in Warzone, I’m not sure. But I can tell you they are very underpowered in Warzone Firefight…

I think underpowered is an understatement.

Ouch, banshees are just not worth 6 and 7 levels of req energy in Warzone Firefight when that kind of thing can happen. You’ve reminded me I should clarify I was NOT saying the enemy AI banshees are underpowered!

And it’s tough to use them against bosses on the ground, because you can maybe shoot one or two bombs before you get too close and have to turn around. They make excellent splattering rams, but that’s about it.

Oh, no, I wasn’t suggesting that AI Banshees are underpowered, I was just trying to demonstrate that player Banshees, even Ultras, even with Wheelman, are underpowered.

Totally agree. And I apologize for derailing the thread, but I feel like any discussion of banshee balance in Warzone should keep the firefight mechanics in mind because I would be sad if they were nerfed any more

I do not play firefight all that much so can’t comment there.

I’d really just like to see the collision to the surfaces in the world be more damaging to the banshee. Would that be too much of a nerf?

I agree with this but also think that if you can take a wraith blast twice in a warthog you shouldn’t be obliterated by a banshee bomb instantly.

I almost always use splinter grenade expert just because of vehicles. I don’t think banshees are usually that bad, though. They’re either doing what you’re describing, which puts them in a place where they’re pretty vulnerable to being hijacked and really aren’t taking advantage of the banshee’s ability to fly, or they’re up nice and high where they’re easy targets for rockets and railguns.

my ptoblem with the shee is more with its banshee tricks…that damn vertical loop is OP, wish it remained as it was in halo 2, 3 etc, a much slower and graceful maneuver.

I think this is a great idea in reach if you did careless maneuvers too many times you would pay the price you actually had to be a good pilot and while reaches damage to the bahshees is a little extreme I would like to see a little of it put into halo 5

I think the it need a long cool down if it uses tricks too much I’ve seen banshees that just trick the whole time you can never hit or lock on.

I just clambered a banshee doing a trick

lol…yea

no vehicles take damage from hitting walls in h5. i think its fine as is since it is very easy to counter people doing that

I have mixed feelings about it. Generally Banshees are fairly simple to deal with, but every now and then when you run into an extremely skilled Banshee pilot it can turn into a nightmare. There are a few guys out there that are like gods in the thing and are almost impossible to take down. Only the Temple and Ultra are OP, the sword and regular go down quick and aren’t an issue. I don’t know, I say keep them where they are on the req level for now and don’t buff or nerf them. It’s rare you run into one of those guys that goes crazy in one.

I will say it’s fun when you have a full fireteam and you pull out 6 or 7 ultras at once and just go off. lol

I’d say I’m neutral on this. It’s always been an option in Halo but you do risk getting boarded. However, the damage rate has always been pretty unrealistic. Granted we are playing a game that takes place 500 years from now lol but it doesn’t necessarily mean ramming a massive vehicle into the ground should leave it unscathed.
