I have recently noticed the dramatic increase in the usage of a certain strategy by the Defensive team during Warzone Assault on the maps Summit and Apex 7 and thought that I should raise this issue to the rest of the community so as to receive their input. At the beginning of the game, the team on defense will immediately rush the offensive team in their spawn locations. More often than not, the defensive team is able to overwhelm the opponents and completely restrict their movement. In one such instance, my teammates and I were trapped for 4 minutes of the 6 minute round unable to take even one step after spawning. Now let me note that I realize that this is in fact a legitimate strategy to be employed; however, I must also express my sincere displeasure to be unable to enjoy the game due to nonstop spawn killing.
Now I ask you, the community, what are your thoughts/opinions on the use of team spawn killing during Warzone Assault? Have you ever experienced this before? Can you think of any solutions to this issue to be implemented either by 343i or the players?
It happens, it can be a very difficult situation to get out unless your team all has mics and you can convey a strategy.
I’m now on loss 8 in a row in WZA, all seem to be due to the “defenders” being able to control the attackers spawns,
Hopefully I’ll get a win soon lol
Yep, been on both ends of it… mixed feelings. It’s not much fun being stomped on but if the game employs some kind of auto-leveling mechanism then it would feel cheap.

Have you found any strategy that works? The one and only time I managed to win against this tactic was due to pure luck that I eventually spawned behind the spire on Apex and captured the base while the enemy team was still killing my teammates.

I completely know what you mean. The defenders have a huge advantage since they have the high ground.

I understand. However, it seems to me that if a team is able to unlock high enough req levels within the first 6 minute round of a Warzone Assault match to call out numerous scorpions, banshees, and even phaetons, then there is a serious problem.
Map or area control has always been part of halo and so has spawn killing that goes along with it.
It’s even worse on Apex 7 since the defending team has plenty of room to drive Ghosts and Warthogs.

And I agree with you that area control is a large part of the Halo game and franchise. But what I’m seeing and experiencing goes far beyond that. The defending team seems to have a greater advantage over the attacking team in that they are given control of the area from the start of the game and have the high ground. Its as if someone had a cat fight a mouse and then decided “why not add another cat?”

Very true and at that point there really is no chance for the attacking team to make a return.
Has anyone found a viable counter-strategy yet?

Not exactly but there comes a point where rushing their base is going to get you nowhere. Once the defending team as established complete dominance I try to concentrate on staying alive and if your team-mates do likewise then the tide can (occasionally) turn. Sometimes the opposition can get greedy and venture too far into your spawn area - at that point if they get killed you can suddenly find the path to their base is cleared.

I don’t think summit is that bad but Apex is the hardest to capture the spire because the defensive team just has the high ground and there isn’t much you can do if it is even teams offensively.
Got stomped 3 times by the same Spartan company out of the 5 games of assault I played yesterday… the spawn killing was so bad I thought I had some how entered a time warp and was getting modded on
When i’m defending on Summit I admit my main goal is to try and Nadeshot folks as they run up the ramp toward the main entrance.
You know if the game would allow us to choose where to spawn it would help tons. To die several times in a row in the exact spawn over and over is a bit disheartening. The people at 343i must not have imagined that Defenders would go Offensive and overtake the intial spawn area. *sigh

Personally, I find Summit to be the worst because of the bottleneck effect that the ramp leading up to the main entrance creates. After the defending team has overwhelmed their opponents, the attackers are forced up the ramp and engaged by enemies on all 3 sides.
Soo easy to fix. Here it is…for assault.
>>>On the snow map make the blue spawn area a passive anti-red 10 second barrier.(before ramp)
So if they enter they can’t stay long.
>>>>on the rocket map same deal but for both teams anti enemy passive kill zones.
But put a barrier over the tunnel.
And add two mounted turrets.
One for blue at their spawn but can only shoot at the roof.and more cover at ?pond spawn?..
Turret for red on their armory, with an anti blue kill bounderie on it no blues allowed.
And finally a big rock on the side opposite the armory that you can’t climb on, as spawn cover for red.
>>>>same deal for the spire map assault version
But adding alot more cover and maybe a gravity lift?

Great ideas. Many of my friends have also said the same.
