I don’t know why you’re going all aggro for no reason guy, but yes, I was giving an idea on how to replace the REQ system since it’s gone, while trying to keep it as close to the original as possible.
Battlefront II doesn’t require you to have anything in a personal inventory to spawn in a match. It also allows the players doing the most for the team to have priority over vehicles and heroes, but limits the amount they can use them if they run out of points to spend; that way nobody can hog them, unless they’re good at staying alive in which case they deserve to keep the item.
I really disliked Warzone, particularly how it leveraged H5’s monetization slot machine REQ system. While I think it was possible to have fun playing Warzone without investing in REQ packs with real world money, I think it’s undeniable that the incentive structure of the mode was a “pay to win” setup, with players encouraged to spend money on REQ packs to get one-time access to weapons and vehicles that would advantage them over the competition.
A Battle Royale in the mold of Fortnite is actually a lot more even keeled and fair than that. Yes, there’s an emphasis on monetizing cosmetics that reaches absurd levels. But the core gameplay and competitive structure has an integrity to it that can’t be paid away. A broke kid playing Fortnite has as much chance to win as someone who invests hundreds of bucks a month into it.
I don’t like Fortnite, and I personally also don’t really enjoy the entire concept of a Battle Royale mode coming to Halo. But I can’t get behind this emerging revisionist take on Warzone being an awesome Halo mode that Infinite should’ve kept.
i honestly never understood the “pay to win” argument.
let’s say you pay 200 for req packs that are completely random. you would still start off at 0 points at the beginning of the warzone match and depending on your skills and how you play for the team determines how fast you earn those points to even afford the higher tier weapons or vehicles.
AND EVEN THEN you still have to be good to fully utilize those weapons and vehicles. if you get killed, all the points you used have to be earned again.
you are more lethal (depending on skill) but still equally vulnerable.
have an issue with vehicles? the plasma pistol is extremely effective for being so cheap.
It’s about what kind of “Warchest” any individual player has at their disposal, owing to how heavily they’ve invested in the REQ system.
Yes, there’s no requirement for players to engage with that system with MTX REQ purchases, but it’s plainly designed to encourage people to splurge on stacking their REQ cards sky-high.
Bottom line for me, any game that affords gameplay advantages to players through optional MTX is more or less a “pay to win” system (doesn’t necessarily mean there’s no strengths to the game whatsoever, but it’s a big demerit IMO.)
I’d all be for a warzone 2.0. Warzone offered such a unique experience to halo that allowed for a more chaotic take to the normal experience. It also allowed for you to play it the way you wanted. The unique weapons abs vehicles along with AI in the fray allowed for some intense tug of war gameplay.
Btb 2.0 was such a huge letdown since all it did was increase the player count to what warzone already had.
