All the time I hear the phrase “warm up”, and it got me thinking. A lot of people like to play a warm up match or two before going into their favourite ranked playlist, I myself usually play Warzone Assault to get the pistol action going before heading into team slayer.
But the question is - do you think it actually makes a difference? It’s not like we need to warm up in the same way an athlete does so that we don’t pull a muscle. We know the buttons, we play the game regularly. For me, playing Halo is as intuitive as walking, I’ve been doing it for so many years.
So I’d be interested to know why many of us feel the need to warm up? Is it a comfort thing, just to make sure that you can still aim before risking a loss on a ranked playlist? Or do you think there’s more to it than that?
Also, what do you do to warm up? Warzone Assault? Octagon? Etc.
well ya, try playing a ranked game without playing for a day or too, everything seems a little off. Playing just kind of gets you into the groove of things, sure gamers dont have to worry about muscles and all but they do have to worry about reaction times, sensitivity etc. I change my sensitivity once or twice a day because how I play fluctuates throughout the day.
I play warzone/btb or if a friend is on we will play octagon
I need to “warm up”, every time that I play because I only play on the weekends. Being away from it for that long sort of takes some adjusting to get back into. Without a warm up match, I would play quite sloppy for the first two matches.
Well warming up for Halo is to get your reflex in check like whenever ever you start the first match of the game you ever feel sluggish or slow? Kinda out of it. Warming up for most people is to get out of that
I’m naturally a slow starter, especially within the game. I’m the guy that starts a match with 0 kills and 5 deaths and finishes the match with a 17-8 clip.
That being said, warmups are usually vital for me. At least in my case, it’s just too get my reflexes where they need to be. I find that sometimes I feel sluggish in my first couple matches.
Yeah, I’ll rock another game mode before going for my usual ranked lists. Sometimes I’ll have a great first game and wonder why I didn’t just jump straight into it, but it’s become a bit of a ritual for me now to rock a warm-up

All agreed, warming up helps get yourself together so you know if you need to speed up or slow down sensitivity or if maybe things just aren’t clicking and you need to try again later.
On another note I’ve been messaged numerous times to play in the octagon, but I have no idea what it is, anyone help me out?
I had a 44 in team snipers in Halo 2.
7 fifties in Halo 3 including multiple accounts with MLG 50’s
Multiple seasons in Reach with single digit Onyx placement
Champion rating in Halo 5 and at least onyx in every season so far

The octagon is a map from halo 2 it think, one of the other halos anyway. If you go to the map browser in halowaypoint they (343) just added it, then search “octagon” and save one that looks nice. Then if you go to map variants or whatever it’s called in costume games and the map should be there.
I always play a match of warzone and warzone assault before going into arena. It’s a more relaxed gametipe.
I’ve noticed that if I jump straight to arena o generally play awful.
Also if the weather is cold I struggle to play good.
So yes I think a couple of warmup matches are necessary to play good.
I have a second account that I use to try new controller setups, sensitivities, jumps and such as well as warm up. Then I go to my regular account to play. Funny thing is 343 has always ranked me higher in the warm up account.

On bad days yes…but an added say…10 mins isn’t a complete waste.

yeah it does make a difference. I was on alot tuesday doing great in most matches, only played 1 or 2 games yday due to lag and coming on today going strAIGHT into BTB my aim is all over the place and everything feels off, so, backing out to get some warm up games going to get my aim back
You might not need to warm up like other athletes do, but your brain needs to start generating the mind set. Your eyes focused. Thumbs loose. etc. The warm ups are different, but yes, it would be good practice to have warm up games.
