So y’all probably know about the commendations in Halo 5 where you earn XP or req packs for doing specific actions. Well, I have only 2 categories left for enemy which are the warden and grunt mech kills. But for some reason, even though I get those kills, they don’t fill up the progress meters. Is this something that anybody else has had happened? Is it just a glitch or is it specific variants of those bosses that go toward the commendations?
I think you have to get last hit on them to make it count. I also have those left.

So you’re saying that even if I get the takedown but not the last hit, it won’t count toward the commendation?

That is what I think, I remember that I for sure knew I got a last hit on a warden and on post game I saw my kill count go up by one. The game registered it as me killing it, not getting an assist on it. Idk if I’m wrong and maybe it just worked as intended that one time or it is like this. But that is what I believe is the way it works.

Thanks!
In order to complete these commendations, you need to be the player who kills the boss. The boss takedown medal can be a bit misleading as it both given to player who killed the boss and assisted in killing the boss.
In indicator for killing for that you killed the boss is that your reticle will get a red kill marker cross at the same time as when you get the boss takedown medal.
Wardens are a bit tough to get the actual kill for, but grunt mechs are super easy. Spawn the mid tier plasma pistol and pepper the canopy with shots and as soon as it drops, switch to your BR and headshot the grunt pilot. I usually get the credit for most of the grunt mechs with this strat. If you get the grunt kill medal it confirms you got the credit for it.

Along with the plasma pistol, both the spartan laser and sentinel beam work for that strat
In addition to the great strategies above, you can also try using tanks. They are great for landing the last shot.
As far as the grunt mech goes, you’ll know if you get it or not when the medal pops when he dies. You’ll get commendation credit if both the boss medal and the grunt medal show up. And yes… you have to be the one to record the “kill shot” in order to receive credit, not just participate in the takedown. Wardens and Mechs are the last ones to finish for just about everyone. There are various methods out there to try to ensure you get it. I think the super easiest way would be to get a full fireteam together, and go in with the understanding that you need to finish the commendations and you need to get the kill shot (maybe if you’re in a company you could get them to help? Be a little easier that way). If you guys do it right, your team will stop trying to kill him just before he’s dead and let you get the kill shot. That’s the easiest way, but there are others using various weapons and vehicles… I would suggest searching for those topics in the Halo 5 forums and checking those out, see which ones will work best for you.
Prewojo’s method of going in with a full fireteam so you can control the outcome is clearly the easiest.
As noted above, you need the final blow for the progress.
For Warden kill shots, I recommend a tank, and timing your shot.
For the Grunt mech - position yourself to be on his side (not front or back) because the headshot is easier from the side when the canopy pops open.
Happy hunting!

For grunt mech you must get the grunt kill medal for it to count
Warden you have to get the full amount of points for it to count
