Warden Eternal: do you want him in Infinite?

The Warden Eternal was introduced in Halo 5, and the reception to him wasn’t the best, to put it mildly. Fans criticized him the character as being essentially pointless, he does nothing to progress the story or characters forward, he doesn’t have really anything interesting going on himself, and if, anything, brings things to a halt. Which leads to the next criticism he got, the boss fights. It’s no surprise that people really dislike fighting Warden. Fist off, he’s not an interesting or fun boss to fight, not interesting or dynamic gameplay. And then we have to fight him multiple times throughout the Campaign, even at 1 point 3 bodies at the exact same time. For Infinite, do you hope that Warden is in the the game? If you hope he is, how do you want 343 to make him a good addition to the story as well as a fun enemy to fight?

I think he sucked as a boss mostly because every time he appeared, the game was just starting to pick up the pace. Then he just brought it all to a grinding halt. He has the potential to be such an interesting character with a very intriguing backstory… but none of that was explored in H5. Perhaps if we got a bit of history on him as a character, we might find him interesting enough in the games. Could make for an interesting Guilty Spark-like character where you never truly know where his allegiances lie. His true allegiance is to the Mantle of course, so his allegiance to the various factions could change depending on who he views as being most worthy throughout Infinite. He can start out on Cortana’s side, but as Infinite progresses, he starts to doubt her legitimacy as inheritor of the Mantle.

I didn’t mind him as a character, and I even find his premise sort of interesting. That being said, I hope to never have to fight him again unless he gets an overhaul that makes him a more interesting boss. If he does make it in the game as a boss, it should be a 1 time mechanic that does not repeat at all

Would be interesting. However the issue is he is completely devoted to her, due to Cortana controlling him. In Tales From Slipspace, it’s revealed that Cortana reworked and reprogrammed him when she accessed the Domain.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him return as a character but not a boss. I never liked boss battles in Halo games, I like it better when the ‘boss’ fight is a large scale battle with a variety of enemies and vehicles in play that’s between me and the objective.

Character yes, boss fight… only if he isn’t some Bullet sponge you have to some how shoot from behind… so likely a no.

I liked his character in H5 and I’d like him to return. As far as fighting him I want them to make him less of a boss battle type character and more something along the lines of a Hunter.

Absolutely. I need to fight him another seven times.

He felt like a discount Didact, and you don’t learn enough about him in the game for me to find him interesting. So I have no desire for him to be in Halo: Infinite. Although if he is, I won’t mind, as long as he’s implemented well.

I dont want to see anything promethean related in any future Halo Installment, so -> no.

I thought he was ok as a character, as a boss he was just…tedious. There wasn’t anything special about him, so after the first fight you just start thinking “when is this going to be over?” instead of wanting to see him again.

That being said, he honestly didn’t bring a whole lot to the table in terms of interesting backstory seeing as, well, we don’t know what his backstory even is. I’d like to learn more about him rather than just throwing him back in with the hopes that it’ll just magically work.

So, if he does make a return to Infinite, then I hope they make him far more interesting to fight if that’s the route they want to go. Plus some info on him would be amazing. All we know is that he’s not an AI like 343 Guilty Spark and perhaps he’s nothing like the Prometheans either.

That does put a bit of a snag in my idea, but I think that can be overcome. Cortana is ultimately just a human AI. Her ability to control a Forerunner Ancilla likely has some limits.

I’m with you. I don’t like them at all, I would have no issues if they’re dropped. It’s another reason I’m holding off on Halo Infinite, there’s just not enough info.

I only want him to return to close that part of the story. I don’t want Halo moving forward without tying up the loose ends in the story. If he’s completely gone then explain it in Infinite but if he’s not then finish him off early on in the game.

Absolutely not. Unless there’s some weird cryo-induced dream sequence where we give him a swirlie, symbolically putting Halo 5 in the toilet where it belongs.

Nah fam

I would like him to return as both a character and a boss fight. The boss fight ideally would be only once and then he is dead forever, or maybe he lives and you never have go face him ever again. I thought the warden had interesting things to say, and i like the overall idea and character of him. Also i hate when ideas in general are quickly thrown out, or not used again. An example of this is the halo 4 mammoth, i hope it returns. I also hope we see another kraken. I just want ideas and in game lore/assets to be flushed out more and not just a one time thing. If warden has to die or go away from the series because he is disliked by fans, at least give us a solid reason and in game content, for example we do three long missions that end with his death. Alot of people didn’t like how jul just had one mission that led into a cutscene of his death.

Better written and more engaging fight, and I’m all for it.

As others have said, less bullet-sponge’y and that’d be a great starting point.

In all honesty, I think he is a good boss, fun to fight, and assasinate lol, but due to how annoying he is most of the time, (like when I’m already in a fight with some soldiers, and then he just has to 3rd party) I’d say that it’s a no for me for him being in infinite

he was absolutely the biggest pain to fight and on the wrong side of a challenge when you faced him for the third time. Perhaps if they better playtested the encounters but nah best left I Halo5 I reckon. He does grow on you as a character to be fair but they’d have to get him very right regarding combat with him first. The Didact on the other hand I’d love to see if only in cutscenes like before. The Didact was awesome and it disappointed me that he didn’t return

Honestly, I thought warden looked pretty cool, and had some serious potential, but it was just pretty repetitive to have to fight him over and over again, with each fight playing out with minimal difference. If he does return, I’d like to see his character get fleshed out better. And if we have to fight him, I’d like the encounter to be fun and unique, unlike in halo 5. Perhaps when you get to the control room, you participate in a 3-way battle between a covenant( or whatever their equivalent will be) spec ops team, and a warden backed up by sentinels. That’s just one of the many ways to spice up a boss fight with Warden.

TL;DR, if Warden returns, both his fights and character should be made more interesting.
