War Games: Things that don't make sense

War Games is supposed to have some plot sort of, right? We are actually Spartans in training… But then what about this?

No red Xs: at the beginning of the campaign chief follows a trail of waypoints created by fallen marines. This has not only been a consistent part of halo MM it also obviously has a correlation to things that could happen in actual battle situations for Spartans as proven by the campaign produced by 343. UNSC personal obviously already have some sort of becon so it would make sense to have death markers.

Personal Ordnance: so their is appartenly a spaceship or satilite tracking the exact location of every spartan in every battle field ever and Spartans are trained to rely on this crutch for support? Obviously not, as that is not how ordnance works in spartan ops. When the situation permits specific essential ordnance is dropped a location within sprinting distance of a team of Spartans but not requested at a Spartans feet only to show up a second later(which wouldn’t ever really make sense since the travel time for an object from orbit to the earth would be a lot longer than the instantaneous gift PO seems to portray). Also if the unsc even had the resources to individually track and prepare ordnance for each single spartan, wouldn’t it be more efficient and effective simple better prep there soldiers from the start of an engagement rather than through a missile system specifically designed to send them a needler when they just as easily could have brought one from the start? Which leads to the next thing: a spartan is deep behind enemy lines and lets say the unsc is silly enough to actually implement the PO system even if it is wasteful and inefficient and they send their soldiers needlers? From outer space? They put all that time and effort in and the soldier doesn’t even get a rocket launcher? I mean where does the unsc even get all these needlers from? Are we supposed to believe they have an entire arsenal of Promethean and covy weapons they can just rain down from they sky, but in the end they still choose to send a needler? Really? What!?

Any other things that make absolutely no sense?

No proper ranking system

Indeed. Indeed. If these are real soldiers than what are their ranks?

Not allowed to play as Elites because of it being story, but it lets you play as the Flood. A bit contradictory if you ask me…

And even if they had some sort of flood simulation, where Spartans played the part of the flood, why go through all the trouble of adding costumes and sound effects? Wouldn’t that be a waste? And why can’t they carry weapons? If real flood were anything like these flood legendary would have been a lot easier in previous campaigns.

Willing Suspension of Disbelief.

My suspension for disbelief ends with the United Nations having an elite intergalactic military force in the future. From there you best make sure it has some semblance of thought. Especially when it was 343’s choice to make MM connected to the universe, not mine.

edit: but honestly, let’s not take the fun out of picking this apart as if it is a serious thing. We all get it’s just matchmaking, it’s just funny is all.

gameplay>story. We got a story of what war games was. And why some certain things are. But almost always gameplay takes importance over story. For instance the reason for war games is to train spartans to use anything at hand. But gameplay wise if we added every weapon/ vehicle in the halo universe things would get too flooded. So we have limits. We could train the spartans to use hornets but these spartans are out in space without those vehicles on board. The practicality of the training is small.

Just like its possible to simulate elites. But i’m betting it wasn’t designed into the war games simulator because we were not at war with covies anymore. But seeing as how flood is the most dangerous thing in the universe they programmed it in as an emergency.

See what i’m getting at?

Never when I’m playing war games do I get the idea that it’s all a simulation. This whole ‘multiplayer is canon’ thingy is a big mistake by 343 Industries. It fails to immerse players and worst of all has led to the pointless removal of features such as playable Elites.
