War Games Splitscreen Frame Rate Lag

There’s a horrible frame rate split screen drop where if you play War games matchmaking on split screen on the maps Complex, Harvest, Wreckage, and Shatter, the game has extreme lag for the people using split screen. However when I’m not playing on split screen, these maps play just fine.

I haven’t seen this discussed yet. Has anyone else noticed this?

EDIT: I see that many people are having this same problem, and I am convinced that this affects a majority of those who play split screen. We need to keep this thread up and continue to let 343i know that this problem needs to be fixed.

OH MY GOD FINALLY SOMEONE KNOWS HOW IT FEELS
i play with my brother half the time and its unbearable.so laggy

um, kinda off topic but how do you get that little motto thingy under your text?

Lol. Good to hear that it’s not only me. When I play split screen with my wife, we have to end up avoiding these maps just to have decent games. I’ve reported the bug, hopefully it can get fixed in a TU.

You have to have 7000 posts on this site. Until then signatures are locked.

Yup. I also experience some serious lag while doing this

Indeed sir, it is horrible. As someone who often has mate’s over to play/drink, this is making Halo rather painful.

That’s not lag, it’s a drop in the game’s frame rate. Also, of course it’s going to happen when playing split screen. The game pretty much as to render each screen and the xbox’s outdated hardware can’t handle it. I’m not sure if they did things differently for H4, but in Reach you would often see everything in lowered detail to counter this problem.

I was thinking it was a frame rate drop, but didn’t want to jump to conclusions. It does seem like 343i did thing differently for Halo 4, in comparison for Reach.

In Reach, certain things would not be rendered when playing split screen, such as: the Skull on the E.V.A. helmet, glass, and water.

I don’t seem to notice any missing detail when playing split screen in Halo 4.

Same here. Some maps like you described cause hardware lag. I don’t think 343 can fix it. Even if it is they’re busy fixing other messes in their game.

sigh One can hope though.

I agree, last noght I did a post regarding the very same issue but no one seems to bump it.

Yeah, i noticed it when playing on Complex with my mate. It’s slightly annoying, but we ended up fighting in buildings most of the time so it wasn’t horrible.

Yeah its frame rate, halo 4 doesn’t lower graphics enough in splitscreen. Hey, if you think 2 on a screen is bad try 4 like we do for Halo night at work. When we do 4 vs 4 with 2 xboxs it’s really bad. Poor optimisation, can’t blame the age of the xbox for it, just poorly optimised, lower the graphics more!

How did that even pass testing? Lol.

Actually you can blame the aging Xbox. You can only turn so many things down/off on a console game. Especially with the limited space they are given. You cannot really ship with a bunch of lower resolution texture to be applied when split screening.

And given the frame drops out occur out of combat, decreasing partiles would literally do nothing.

Killing the lighting wouldn’t work because Halo is ugly without it.

Decreasing terrain draw distance would give you an advantage because you would be able to see people through walls.

Decreasing object draw distance would put you at a disadvantage because other players would be able to see you first.

Given how few doodads there are, disabling rendering of them wouldn’t net a performance boost.

Decreasing the resolution would make the game a garbled, unplayable mess. It only runs at 720p as is.

Is funny how noticeable the fps drop is in war games maps but barely noticeable in campaign coop. I know this because I went trough the entire campaign a second time in coop with my bro.

It’s horrible and almost unplayable, My wife and I, used to love Halo and play together, now it’s not as enjoyable due to this problem. Places like Complex WE ALWAYS VOTE DOWN DOWN DOWN!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH so pissed right now at this!

Do they have Quality testers or something, I guess not. 343 your new so I’ll give you that… but seriously. Splitscreen is a complete mess and you screwed the ones that love playing together on the same screen.

Yeah it’s absolutely horrible. Just downloaded the crimson trial pack today and am honestly considering whether the actual pack is worth purchasing. Shatter is unbelievably awful with certain segments of the map playing like a power point slide. The other two are somewhat better, but they still have their issues as well. These are just the DLC maps, many of the ones in the game have the same problem.

343 needs to fix these issues. Reach worked ok, they should just do what Bungie did to solve the issue or come up with a better solution. These problems should definitely be able to be fixed. I’ve seen other games where split screen patches have been implemented to improve performance, so a similar fix should be able to be implemented here.

Unfortunately, if Halo continues to follow this downward trend in its splitscreen experience, I can see the feature either degrading to an unplayable point or being removed all together.

I agree, I have no idea how this was passed with quality textures. I hate having to avoid certain maps while playing splitscreen, it really takes away from the experience.

Shatter really does have horrible FPS drops. I would hope that this issue could be fixed by taking away certain textures that are unnecessary like skins on armor and guns, for example.

If this horrible FPS situation continues to occur, I can see splitscreen play being removed, but I’d rather not let that happen. There has to be something that can be done about this. We have to keep this thread alive so that 343i know that this is a really problem that is bugging many people.

I know what you’re saying. Like I was saying, it should definitely be possible to fix since Gearbox did it in Borderlands 2 and I think Resistance 3 on PS3 got a patch as well. There are probably many more examples out there. To be honest, 343 needs to most likely just lower the picture quality in split screen and make it like it was in Reach. Reach split screen definitely did not look as good as regular, but at least it ran pretty smoothly with minimal lag in most cases.
