Want to stop being farmed? Read this.

Now, I’ve noticed many, many threads complaining about farming, now this thread is not to complain about those threads, but it’s purpose is to offer advice to those who, supposedly “always get farmed”. Now, first and foremost, Spartan companies don’t have superpowers. They are regular players that form a team, use mics and strategise. Literally anyone can do this. Now, you may be thinking “but what if my base is surrounded by Ultra banshees and ONI tanks etc etc”. Well, from my experience, that rarely happens it’s usually the regular variants, but if it does, these following tips should at the least, help. If anyone has anything else to add, that would be great, now let’s begin.

1-As previously stated, use a mic and communicate. Now I understand most players these days are angry teens who trash talk and don’t communicate, but if you atleast try I’m sure you will have a few teammates who will communicate, you can then group with them after a match, and slowly slowly, match by match, form your own group, and maybe even your own company if you want. This way, you make friends as you play, so then you won’t have to always run solo. Further, it will improve your communication skills, so you know how to better speak with people.

2- Think. Every req has a counter req, vehicles especially so. Literally every vehicle is useless after being hit by an emp (with the exception of tank gunners). So if you are surrounded by vehicles? Get your team to bring out plasma pistols. You may not kill all the vehicles, but you can get some of them at the least.

3- Capture and hold the first base. Now many of you may already know the general farming tactic, go out and rush the enemy armory/garage and cap it, then trap the enemy in their area of the map. Now, if you are able to strategise with your team and beat the farmers at their own game, then you have an interesting match. If you can atleast hold them off your base, you won’t be trapped in home base, and you will have a chance at the bosses.

4- If worst comes to worst, you can always hide at the very back of the base and chip away at their vehicles with a BR or dmr. I’ve done this many times and have destroyed many Gauss hogs, scorpions, wraiths, and mantises. Now this is particularly effective if you get your team to do it with you.

5-Keep in mind, it’s not always about winning, just remember to try to have fun or try to make friends with people on your team, don’t ways have a negative focus. If everyone on your team quits (I’ve been in this situations before), it’s up to you to quit or not, depending how much spare time you have to game etc etc

Now these are are not always guaranteed to break the farm or win a game, it would just make a match at the very least more entertaining, or you can make some friends on your team that you can group up with. Long story short, just communicate and strategise with your team, that’s all the Spartan companies do.

It would be great if more contribute some ideas, as I personally haven’t been playing Halo 5 very much recently, and haven’t been farmed in months as I play with a company, but I have been in the position of being farmed many times and used these points, and sometimes we even came close to winning, and I was just running solo. So you may never know what will happen until you try.

These are very good tips to prevent being farmed. There is no way to prevent the actual farming though. No pug team going up against a full clan fireteam is going to rally back.

1, 2 and 3 are meaningless against a organized team of 6 or more and Or against a much higher skilled team. Here are some real suggestions-

There are multiple things that can easily be done to combat farming. Its infuriating that nothing is be done or even talked about being done.

  1. be able to spawn in the shielded vehicle area if all three bases are capped.
  2. Simply QUIT MATCHING TEAMS OF 6 OR MORE WITH RANDOMS.
  3. Do a better job of balancing teams in matchmaking even when its mostly randoms on both teams. I was in a match where it was just 4 Onyx players and the rest were low tier platinums or golds or silvers against 6, SIX Onyx players, one Champion level player and the rest were diamonds with a couple of platinums. I was on the lower ranked team. Needless to say we got destroyed.
  4. Be able to specifically pick any place on the map to spawn. Here lately, Most of the matches I have been in one of the teams will cap all 3 bases early on. When I have see what was going to happen. I preemptively find a nice quiet corner and crouch until game over.
  5. Make the core deteriorate on its own after 2 minutes of exposure.
  6. When there becomes a point spread of 500 points. End the game. No team will make up that kind of spread, especially when all 3 bases are capped preventing JIP.
  7. Create a Warzone gametype for randoms only.

These are great, but these are changes to the game itself, a solo player can’t do anything about the above things.

And in terms of 1,2,3, I completely disagree. I have had many close matches against full teams of 12 with just a bunch of randoms. In terms of skill, that is a very valid point as some companies have highly experienced players, however I personally rarely encounter them, it’s mostly companies of regular players being organised.

Regardless, matchmaking balance is most certainly something that should be incorporated, it can’t be that hard matching teams of 12 against other teams of 12 (premade vs premade). But in terms of the here and now, players should plug in a mic, and do what they can, better than complaining on the forums endlessly.

My main issue with ‘farming’ is actually what a player perceives it to be. Triple capping an enemy team and proceeding to progressively edge your way into their core room (and ultimately destroy the core, even if it took 5+ minutes to do so) is not farming. If the enemy team is defending that room well, then its a battle between the two teams. If you are being ‘farmed’ (where the enemy is clearly within your home base, including the core room, completely ignoring the core) then my advice is to go to the far back of the base en masse and let the enemies come to you - only one way in. The majority get bored and core, or realise you’re harder to kill at the far back which is nearly inaccessible to all vehicles.

Naturally this is harder when you’re in a full squad of random players, who tend to consistently run outside the base just to be popped in the head. If you can get in a team, do so - if you cant, or prefer smaller groups, don’t stress about a loss when you’re against a co-ordinated team.

I actually had one player in the last week send me hate mail for ‘spawn killing’ them with a sniper. The truth behind the game was more that this individual kept running down outside into the same open area where my line-of-sight was, which was his/her own error. I feel a large part of this whole farming topic is misguided perception. It does exist, but I don’t think it does on the scale that most solo players care to accept.

2 minute deterioration won’t stop farming, but prolongs it. A good team can farm from letting you recap an armory or just let you keep an armory.

Ending the game when there is a deficit of 500 pts? Nah, hate to quote Palmer, but there’s always a chance. Being that down in points is no different from completely reversing a Triple Cap, which I’ve done multiple times. To go from no bases to 3 is an awesome feat, so “we can still destroy the enemy core.” Gotta coordinate and make big plays, even if some teams usually don’t slip up. #4 that’s too random to be able to spawn anywhere on the map

The only way farming is going to end is to march teams against teams and adjust the spawn system. There are ways to minimize the damage which is what you are suggesting and you left a few off. The issue is how easily exploitable the spawns are for boosting. The other thing is if you’re being farmed, properly farmed you aren’t going to be getting off your spawn to use a weapon/to counteract.

You could always just try and be on the farmer’s team.

I swear I’ve seen way too many threads with this title, but yeah Im going to have to shoot down your idea mainly the part about “literally” anyone being able to get a team and that equaling no more farm. I run with teams all the time and by no means are they bad in any way at least 10 out of the 12 have k/ds of 1.2 or higher ranging into the 2.0 we communicate perfectly and know where to go and when for just about every situation however we still can get farmed about 1 every 20 games or so and that is simply because the ones farming are some of the top companies in the game. Having teams and communicating help but by no means does that stop farming, if you go up against say 12 people who have k/ds of 2.0 and you have a 1.0 you’re most likely going to lose now if you have a team of 12 but they all still have 1.0s with you normally you will win against randoms however you will still lose against that team with the 2.0 k/ds. To summarize that having a team will increase how easy your warzone games are but the big companies will still farm you like its nothing. Now next every req has a counter req that is correct however this is a giant rock paper scissors situation, and tons of companies farmer or not know this, for instance a great way to take out a tank is grab a camo and hijack it however that can be countered by advanced sensors a shotgun and another camo sitting on top of a tank, got a banshee grab a splaser got a splaser grab a sniper, again companies know this and back themselves up for it sure you can grab the counter req for that one thing but your req is already going to be countered by something else before you can take out what you wanted to.

I didn’t say 2 minute deterioration. I said it should START to deteriorate after 2 minutes. I do see your point on the 500 points. But I can honestly say I have played over 250 games and only once in 250 have we ever capped and destroyed the core with that kind of deficit. I don’t like being forced to suffer for that 1 in 250 shot. Cost of my time is more important. At the very least a surrender option should pop up , but would only surrender IF, IF THE ENTIRE TEAM AGREES TO SURRENDER.

Yeah that’s what I meant, but the 2 minute thing can easily be bypassed.

Ah, but the problem here is that you probably farm yourself. I don’t know anyone who is pro farming that doesn’t farm their self. Also, it’s not that easy to have fun or even win when you have a team full of randoms and you get farmed. Do you honestly think you can get randoms to hide in the back of your base? And what fun is playing warzone if you just hide in the back of your base always? Farming is a pathetic thing to do, plain and simple. It ruins the fun of others for either the enjoyment for the progress towards achilles for the farmer. It’s literally impossible to stop farmers with a group of randoms. You can’t possibly spawn enough reqs or do well enough to even hold a base. I know, your’e just going to tell me that I should play with my company or get a group together, and I do sometimes. But Some of us like to play for fun too. So when I search by myself and get farmers, that ruins my fun and makes me want to quit WZ. I don’t play to get farmed. I play to have fun. I don’t care if I win, but I want to be able to do something at the very least. And I cant do anything to a group full of smart farmers. Just my thoughts on farming, but personally, I think all you farmers are -Yoink-. Lol

When I’m being farmed I usually spawn a camo and sneak out of the homebase and take out any vehicles and try to cap an armory.

Good advice. I don’t use strategy personally. I just do my best to be a killing machine. The more players i kill, the less likely the rival team will be at being productive.

1 - That all relies on chance here, since you don’t know if other members have a mic or will bother to listen. It basically boils down into “find a good team”, which only further pushes solo players away.
2 - Going out in the open to use it basically makes you a target. So assuming you aren’t killed immediately, all you’ve done is temporarily disabled a vehicle, and it’s back to step one 3 seconds later.
3 - Assuming you have a team, it just becomes a stalemate, since each team is trying to capture 2 bases at once.
4 - Say hello to snipers.
5 - Having fun and being farmed don’t really go together unless you can find fun spartan charging each other in the back of the map or spinning in circles.

Personally I find OP suggestions more helpful and realistic. Though I do like your idea for #7. I think they should make a “Mercenaries” Warzone Playlist that is for solo que only.

I like this post. Especially point number 5.

Very well stated.

I’ve been on the receiving end of royal beatdowns many times and I’ve been “farmed” once or twice. There is a difference

Here’s my checklist:

  1. Is my team preventing the enemy from entering the base (If Yes, then you’re not being farmed, If No, move to 2)

  2. Are you able to spawn inside the base? (If Yes, Move to 3, If No, Move to 5)

  3. Is the other team occupying all the spawn points minus 1 and you’re being instakilled upon spawn? (If Yes, Move to 4, If No, Move to 3a)
3a. Is time past 10:00 minutes? (If Yes, Move to 4,If No Move to 5)

  4. You’re most likely being farmed. It’s annoying and I’ll be honest, I would quit the game if I got super stressed about it I don’t quit games often so I wouldn’t be worried about a tempban or anything.

  5. You’re not being farmed, you’re just being beaten really badly. The other team is waiting for 10:00 to get full req points (If I just used a Legendary RP Req, I’d want full value as well) OR the other team is having more difficulty than you’re giving them credit for. Keep fighting, Push back, work on commendations and then watch the replay of the game to see what the enemy team did that made them so dominant so you can learn/grow as a player.

Got farmed the other day on warzone assault. It sucked but what really sucks is the fact everyone keeps thinking their opinions on how it can be stopped matters. It doesn’t. Show me one way 343 tried to improve the farming situation. Not trying to be mean but your opinion matters none. The previous 100 posts about farming fixes matters none. The next 100 posts about farming fixes matters none. Just buy your reqs, keep playing the rehashed maps and be sure to drive your poorly skinned colorful warthogs around because that is what everyone really wanted.
