Want to see something that may tie up with Halo 4? Enter.

Pretty straight-forward. Want to see something pretty cool? Turn your Xbox on, open Halo Waypoint, go to ‘The Universe’ section, select characters, scroll all the way to the right, open ‘Bestiarum’, select article titled ‘CAVEAT’. I’ll post everything it says in the article on this thread, but feel free to take a look for yourself if you don’t believe me.

CAVEAT

The following information has been gleaned from a variety of sources, impartial and otherwise. Records retrieved from alien systems cannot be verified except by cross-reference against our own records. The significant system-wide full in record-keeping for many of these species invalidates much of the provable veracity of this information. The following document is as accurate as possible under difficult circumstances but should be treated as an incomplete investigation only.

Investigation Status: ONGOING.

Information origins include:

-UNSECURED ALIEN COMPUTER ARCHIVES [SUSPECT]
-RECORDED OBSERVATIONS [VARIABLE]
-TRANSLATED COMMUNICATIONS [VARIABLE]
-INTERLOPED SYSTEMS [SUSPECT]
-OWN ARCHIVAL EVIDENCE [ACCURATE]
-COMMUNICATIONS FROM ARRAY INSTALLATIONS [CLEAR]
-COMMUNICATIONS FROM SHIELDS [CLEAR]
-ASSUMPTIONS FROM MONITOR 343 GUILTY SPARK [UNDER INVESTIGATION]
-ASSUMPTIONS FROM MONITOR 2401 PENITENT TANGENT [CLEAR]

I’d assume that some (or most) have already visited the article. For those that haven’t, happy birthday. I’ve posted this thread to waypoint at 3:52 AM Eastern Standard (US & Canada) so for those reading this any later (perhaps after the Spring Showcase), this is best information I could gather with their being so little detail out on the web. Speculation repeats that Halo 4 might make an appearance in Microsoft’s Spring Showcase, scheduled today (2/29/2012). There’s many questions to be asked for this. “Didn’t 343 Guilty Spark foreshadow a reference in one terminal 5?”, “Who’s Monitor 2401 Penitent Tangent?”, “Doesn’t the investigation status claim ‘ongoing’?” Here are a few of my answers. I cannot promise complete accuracy, I’m limited by clumsiness and misunderstanding.

For the first question I listed (answers by order), watch terminal #5 located on the level ‘Assault on the Control Room’ in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. He comes across a mysterious ship that crash-landed on 343 Guilty Spark’s installation surface. “How many failure points can the plan sustain before blind adherence becomes counter productive? Surely, in light of all that has changed, I should be able to modify my responses to adapt-- No. I have duties, and I have a terrible cargo here. I must be sure. I shall obey, and content myself to monitor.” - 343 Guilty Spark, terminal 5

Secondly, towards the end of the motion comic ‘The Return’ (can be view on Halo Waypoint under ‘The Universe’ in the ‘Events’ section), a cynical Sangheili soldier (I’ve been told that it was ‘The Shipmaster’ A.K.A. ‘Half-Jaw’ from Halos 2 and 3 but the Elite does not have his signature… ‘half-jaw’, therefore I stand by my doubts) found UNSC documents that may’ve suggested UNSC finding of another monitor. This monitor may be the aforementioned ‘Monitor 2401 Penitent Tangent’, so I think. If that is the case, this ‘oracle’ may be a new character, acting as a similar substitute for 343 GS’s role in the previous titles for the Reclaimer Trilogy. And let us remember, the story was brought from the book ‘Halo: Evolutions’ which many have claimed to have leaked a few hints for the upcoming Halo 4. “Faith… what do these humans have… an oracle?” - Protagonist of ‘The Return’

Lastly, my thoughts on the investigation status agree that it may lead to Halo 4. It was only said that investigation and results for ‘The Forerunners’ claimed their extinction. The same cannot be said for the rest of the monitors, such as 343. Perhaps, a monitor has found a new individual or collection of species that may be introduced in Halo 4, most likely posing a leading role, ally or enemy. What are your thoughts on the mysterious ‘Caveat’? The article was a recent addition to Waypoint, not so far from Microsoft’s Spring Showcase. Perhaps, it’s time to shed more light onto our most anticipated game this year.

Thank you for reading. Feel free to leave your questions or opinions in the comments below (and/or leave a ‘thank’ for the guy who stoodd up at 3 in the morning to write all of this. I didn’t ‘CTRL C’ the article and I did start this 40 minutes~ ago <:D).

I noticed you mentioned Penitent Tangent, here’s a little link - 2401 Penitent Tangent | Halo Alpha | Fandom

And a little quote - “He is not encountered again after Master Chief meets him beneath the Library of Installation 05 (when he was captured is still uncertain), and he is not seen when Gravemind occupies High Charity. His fate following the Battle of Installation 05 is uncertain.”

Nothing stopping this particular lightbulb from showing up i guess

Sorry, but the info is just the intro to the Beastarium from Halo 3, and likely has no major connections to Halo 4. It was just an information database for fans of the Halo fiction.

Also:

  • The Elite in The Return was a Shipmaster, not Rtas’ Vadam, or half-jaw.
  • The Monitor that the UNSC supposedly found at the time The Return is set was not 2401 Penitent Tangent. 2401 is the Monitor of Installation 05, or Delta Halo, the Halo ring from Halo 2.

I would suggest you head over to Halopedia and familiarize yourself with the Halo fiction.

Not that I naturally take things personally, but while most of what you said sounded helpful and of use, I cannot tell if your last words were of any disrespect.

Sorry, I meant no disrespect, only to try and help. I probably should have said so, so my mistake.

I honestly refer a lot of people over to Halopedia, and use it myself. Naturally, there are flaws here and there, but it’s a great reference cite, especially if one is not familiar with the fiction.

Again, no disrespect meant, and if I did offend you, I am sorry.

No, I think that one was on me. I just carried a radical assumption; it’s not your duty to ‘dumb things down’ for me. Thanks for your help though, I appreciate it.

If anything, 049-Abject Testament will play a role and not Penitent Tangent. Penitent Tangent was the monitor from Halo 2 that was consumed by the Gravemind, but 049 is the monitor of Installation 03, which is a recently found Halo ring by the UNSC. He was also featured in the terminals, and actually talked a little. Also, this is probably the same monitor from Halo: Primordium- look it up.

The Caveat has been part of the Bestarium since Halo 3’s legendary edition, which was way before 343i were founded, so unless Bungie thought THAT far in the future, this is probably wrong. If this Caveat really is a new alien species or whatever, maybe they are the ones that will take our place in the future, as in:

Precursors–> Forerunners–> Humans–> Caveat

That Besterium’s been around since 2007, when Halo 3’s Collector’s Edition came out. I doubt it means anything.

Is that the name of the Monitor that told Spark ‘[w]e deserve to be forgotten’, or whatever it was? I couldn’t make out the name.

> Also, this is probably the same monitor from Halo: Primordium- look it up.

To which Monitor are you referring? If it’s the Monitor of the Halo in Primordium, that would presumably be a 823543 something something, or some variation thereof, considering that ringworld is Installation 07, not 03.

Is the discovery of 03 later in Glasslands? I haven’t finished it yet. >_>

The monitor in Glasslands was not a Halo Installation Monitor, but the mind of Chakas and (presumably) thousands of human warriors that had been transferred into a Monitor body. It told the story of Installation 07, but was not it’s Monitor. In addition, the current Installation 07 may not have always been Installation 07. There is strong evidence that it was the original Installation 05, as dictated by Medicant Bias’ number (05-032).

Anyway, it’s heavily implied that the Monitor that Humans found in The Return was the Chakas Monitor from Primordium. This Monitor was then used to create 343 Guilty Spark, and presumably several other monitors.

Also: Installation 03 is mentioned near the end of Glasslands. I will avoid saying more unless you want spoilers.

I think I received a ‘pity-thank’ for my opening… yay…

well i enjoyed reading it so may as well give it a Thank!

And you have earned yourself a ‘lol-thank’. Better than just a plain 'ol ‘thank’.

Is there some way I could delete this thread of edit the title? It seems to still be attracting visitors… poor guys…
