Hi Everyone, Spend most of my day scouring through the forums looking at all kinds of discussions! But one think has come apparent to me. People don’t seem to know how to properly put up a good argument or construct the correct form of criticism. This could be from a numerous amount of reasons:
- Rage
- Disappointment
- Inexperience
- Influence from others
If your looking to make a point on these forums, your need to ensure you have a clear mind and think your points clearly.
OK, onto the main point of this Topic.
I want to change halo as much as the next guy to make it the best game possible!! But you need to think about what you wish to deliver as feedback. Here are is an example:
Topic: Removing a mechanic from the game
Often Cause: Rage from defeat
Explanation & Solution: It sucks being defeated over and over again by something within the game, most often a weapon becoming a constant challenge for you. Raging in the forums will do you no good what so ever, instead you need to consider a few things.
1. Ensure that its not your own skill causing the issue. It sucks to admit that … well … YOU SUCK! But we all have our flaws, before jumping on the forums, spend some time away from the game and return to it with a fresh mind and try and find a trump card in your play style that can overcome it. 343I spent a lot of time working these game mechanics and balancing them, sometime you may just not understand them properly. If its something other than that such as a Bug or another player ‘Cheating’ then go back and watch the footage from there side and see what happened for yourself, you know what do to for the rest.
2. Discuss it with other players in your small group. This will help you find a common ground and come up with a solution for why the mechanic feels ‘broken’ or ‘unbalanced’.Either that or they will tell you they are doing just fine and having no issues, then you should refer to point #1. The forums are as cluttered as it is, we could do without more rage posts so make sure you check with others before clogging up the forums!
3. Gathering evidence. Its hard to make a judgement from someone else’s experience but backing it up with evidence such as screenshots or video clips can help prove your point. Don’t just post a single clip, show the consistency with multiple.
4. Evaluate and suggest possible solutions. Often when people are frustrated they ask for something to just be plain REMOVED from the game because its becoming that major of a problem. Can I just remind your how low on content this game is already? An example of this was back in reach with ‘Armour Lock’ Players found it that big of a problem they would outright rage in the forums for it to be discarded. However it was a great mechanic. Instead, Look for a way you can see it still be implemented in the game, but work better along side the other mechanics. For example, I recently noticed the Issue with concerning the plasma pistol being OP due to the new nature of Halo 5’s character movement speed and vehicle disadvantage. Instead of removing it, you could look at it from other angles. I would personally improve the vehicle speed, especially on some of the larger ones such as the Tank & Wraith, Also bring back the process of removing the hatch to plant a grenade allowing team-mates to aid you if you are to be boarded.
Make sure you make your point clear, the more you get people to agree with you the more likely it will be changed! Not just here but on any forum this can work!
Lets work together and bring forward a better Halo for all of us!.
Thanks Guys
