To me infinite looks like 5 but blended with a grittier, grounded aesthetic reminiscent of Reach. I don’t think it looks very similar to classic OT Halo, and it still resembles 5 pretty strongly.

The point they are making is that. Halo 4 and 5 had heaps of visual noise that resulted in a less legible game.
The use of negative space in prior titles allowed for a better conveyancing of information.
Situations are immediately intelligible without risk of visual overload to players from much more complex geometry.
This isn’t a matter of aesthetic preference as it is more a case of function over form.
This is part of the skill floor. Halo initially had a very low level of entry due to the high contrast between environments and foe.
Navigation was clearly highlighted and the play space was easily distinguishable from the interactive elements on the map.
Largely due to simple geometry, contrasting colour and clean simple textures that had detail yet used restraint.
Big T Mac10 i think he meant in design not aesthetically.
You can make a very strong case one style is objectively better in terms of design principles.

> I disagree in the scope that you have zero evidence to back up your claim that it’s a majority that prefer the “Classic Style”. Telling me to “do my own research” on the matter supports this. Surveys are also horribly inaccurate, especially for something like this. Poll in an echo chamber, and you’ll always get the result you want. And really, I think folk like you are the only ones who care to poll for this sort of nonsense, to try and lend validity to your claim that Halo should have stagnated in 2007.

> Personally I hope there are Campaign armors, and we get the option to wear something more reminiscent of the MJOLNIR GEN2, if we so desire.
The evidence is obvious - MMC has a higher player count than Halo 5, its most popular game is Halo 3. Hall 3 is still statistically the most popular halo. Halo Reach was praised for its customisation and customs, and its armours. Infinite appears to ne a mix of Halo 3/Reach.
Furthermore, the revert to the classic art style. Nearly every popular halo YouTuber supports classic - the overwhelming hype for the 2019 teaser. Why? Because it was classic.
The fact there’s only one thread like this? Evidence of an overall preference for classic.
Its obvious. People who like the 4/5 art style aren’t a silent oppressed majority.
I´m really liking the artstyle in Halo Infinite

Honestly I was getting tired of the 4/5 art style. My favorite looking game was Reach and the art style of this game reminds me of a mix between Reach and 5 which is a happy medium. I like it

It’s crazy how divided the halo universe is. I absolutely LOVE the style, but then again I grew up on Halo CE, 2 & 3.
BOTH ARTSTYLES!
Why the heck do we need to remove any looks of architecture, sub species, weapon, item appearance, aeasthetics and so on???
Why not intervowe it all with sound explanations regarding lore/ canon?
Yes the H5 cutscenes showing the Arbiter as a different sub species of sangheili dont make sense with the pre cutscenes for Halo 2 Anniversary. But thats simply explained by regretted apperance decicion and feedback.
I do wish there were a better official explanation about Master Chiefs nano bot, firmware armor upgrade from M VI gen 1 to gen 2… in a cryo pod * sigh *
On topic. I really dont think the Forerunners settled on just ONE style.
There were several different Forerunenr castes.
The " classic " styles I like to associate with the life workers, partly builders. Because builders clearly made Genesis I think.
The " new " styles I like to think as the style of the warrior servants and partly builders too.
And yes I know, there was this thing in lore/ canon that the Forerunners, once building in a certain style couldnt revert back or something?? Very odd judging on how technological advanced they were.
The Elites to me are one of the biggest reasons for me to dislike the Reclaimer-saga art style. Halo 4/5 Elites look snarling, monstrous, brutish beasts. In the classic Halo and Halo Wars artstyles, they were more… refined. Not elegant by any means, but they were refined.
Halo’s old art style was simplistic, and seemed closer to reality - especially in terms of Humanity. Humanity of 2500 looked like it’s something we could look like around that time. Halo 4 and 5 went way too far in trying to remove that Human distinctness.
People need to chill a bit. People have different opinions and Op is allowed to have his. I have never really cared for artstyle and Halo 5 might be my favorite multiplayer halo. I do think halo 2a has a underated multiplayer though.
To the people saying halo mcc is more popular than halo 5. Of course it is, it has 5 games to play, has gotten a ton of new content and pc ports. If halo 5 was still being supported like that there would be more interest. However I really love what halo Infinite is doing with the artstyle. There is still some 4/5 in there, but I think it is a perfect mix. Multiplayer wise I think it will be the best so far
Halo 4 and 5 art style looked to cartoony for my liking i much prefered that darky gritty style used in bungies halo games
yeah this is a bad take. H4/H5 didnt look like the halo i grew up with. Infinite looks like halo. The art style is a return to form and looks like a modern better graphical version of reach and H3 which I am so down for. Your telling me the spartan armors in this game look worse than the plastic power rangers of H5 and H4? NO way. This game has actual grit now and the spartans look like soldiers.
Personally, ive gona back and forth on artstlye changes, which are good and bad, and which shouldve stayed the same. With hindsight being 20/20, I think it’s easier to say which were good and which weren’t. For example, Chief’s Gen 2 Mk VI throwback/refresh/ new armor was a really cool and unique armor set. However, I do believe 343i could have at least used Mk VI from thr mulitplayer variant and thr Chief’s armor and it wouldn’t have been such a radical departure from his already established look. Of they would have used that look, its wouldnt have been so jarring; then in Halo 5, him donning his ntew Gen 2 Mk VI Mod armor. The Elites, as much as I like the Elites more detailed and organic visceral aesthetic, they were far too brutish and bulky, not very elite and cunning. I did love the hyper futuristic look of the Forerunner architecture, but I do see that it couldve been dialed back in terms of color choices and reduced light bloom#jjabrams. Just please, I never want to see ancient Greek columns in a Halo game-looking at you Halo 2 and your Delta Halo level!
I think one of the draw backs in Halo 5, in termsof art direction is the choice in lighting throughout the game. Very vibrant and thr player models seemed to be light drastically diffrent from the background. Almost seem to glow in comparison. If you look back at Halo 5’s beta, youll notice the drastic change in color tones amd saturation levels when compared to the final game.
But that all I got for now.
Heres a silly idea, you know to make sense of it all!
Elites:
H2Anniversary: Coastal, canyon life style and evolution
H3: Deserts and mountain areas. Yes the h3 elites have a slightly more rounded mandibles than the h2a ones
HReach: Jungles, forests. One of the more agressive, agile sangheili
H4/5: Evolved on the savannas, explaining their more upright stature
All had different Sangheili Elites
Brutes: Our space ape relative
Much more guess work here.
And no, their two primary skeins are a different name on class/ clan not sub species
H2A: Kinda flat flace, similar to hw2 but with smaller, more plentiful jagged teeth. Their lips dont cover em. More fur in general than the hw2 brutes
H3: Longer snout, possible lighter built, evolved with better smell perhaps
HReach: Evolved in the densest jungles, very tribla with their tattos,
HW2: Taller, stronger, a bit less agressive. No jutting teeth. Overall more intelligent? Possibly evolved on more open parts of the planets, if judging how we hoomans evolved to go upright due to lack of trees
Explanation. Subspecies.
Include it as canon/ lore. BAM! Or is it to much effort, rather go back and fort with Bungie vs 343 nonsense?
Bungie/ 343 did this alredy with the Kig Yar Jackals
Ruuthians ( H1 - 3 + Reach, Infinite ). I assume they were the main sub species on their homewrold, evolved in jungles etc
Ibe’Shan ( h4/ h5 ). I think its stated they lived near the more volcanic areas of the homeworld, adapted to be more short snouted, tougher
T’voan ( Reach ). Evolved on the homeworlds moons and asteroids.
Imagine if similar explanation could be done fro the elite, brutes, even the grunts??
Whoa!
Like a combo of both. Somethings I liked about 4/5 artstyle while some I didnt.

Oooof.
Hard disagree on this! I want less off Halo 5/4 art style, mostly Halo Infinite finally looks much better, but the armor options shown mostly looked more like Halo 5 than Reach so I’m hoping they fix that.
This would be the first time that I hear of such a complaint. While you are entitled to that opinion, I must disagree. I very much enjoy their return to the more classic look while still giving it some modern polish.

You say objectively bad, what metrics are you using? I’d get it if you said it was subjectively bad butttt.

Thats exactly what infinite is.
The banished weapons are very much 343i.
Many of the armours are also just with a slightly more halo 3 and reach vibe due to textures, undersuits and space diapers.
The plasma pistol is very 343i era sanghili as opposed to bungie sangshyuum aesthetic for example.
The mongoose is a reclaimer saga style etc.
This is literally a visual continuity of bungie classic, post 3 bungie more segmented geometry(due to visr) and 343i era design brought into one cohesive style.
While Master Chief has never looked better than Halo 4, the rest of the art was terrible and even worse in Halo 5, especially the multiplayer, where all the Spartans looked like modern gundams. No thanks. Bring back the Halo 4 MC I’m all for, but not the multiplayer. If we’re being honest, Halo’s multiplayer art design peaked in Halo 2.

Pretty sure you don’t understand the term objective.
