Haha I was thinking the same thing… objectively?

lol no way.

H4/H5 art style was so bad. They turned a perfect futuristic military shooter into a sci-fi, power rangers mashup.

The Halo Infinite art style is perfect.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but Infinite’s art is so good I thought this was sattire.

I probably commented this here months ago, but hot damn please no. After a decade we finally have a new Halo game that looks like Halo. We need more content in this style, more grit, and more of the blood and horror elements from Halo CE. That and a few biomes…

I certainly don’t want to see 4 and 5s art styles return, but I’d actually pay for remakes of 4 and 5 if they looked more like Infinite and less like power rangers.

Glad I’m not the only one who strongly prefers Halo 5’s art style more than Infinite’s. Infinite’s art style just isn’t cutting it for me. So what, they revert back to a Halo 3 style on the basis of a “return to form” only to then end up looking so bloody generic, outdated, and wrongfully cartoony? “Return to form” art style my backside, especially with all of the major issues Infinite has, from desyncs to microtransaction abuse and a seriously massive lack of content!

Now, analyzing Chief’s armor, Halo 4 made him look like a proper supersoldier from the 26th century with the Mark VI MOD. Not only that, it made him look even more human. Kenneth Scott and the H4 art team spent so much time and attention into the Mark VI MOD armor, using familiar shapes and motifs from real world military hardware while also showing Chief’s humanity at the same time! That was important to H4’s story. People hated the explanation for the armor’s existence, but let’s be real here - Cortana knew better than to just sit adrift in space and do nothing but rot for 4 years, so she had to upgrade Chief’s armor. I love how desaturated and worn out the H4 Mark VI MOD looks.

Now, continuing onto the Halo 5 version, which is a GEN2 Mark VI MOD (upgraded from the original GEN1 Mark VI MOD that was damaged), Chief’s armor looks a lot cleaner and more green, and the visor is now a more vibrant gold, apparently done to reference the Halo CE Mark V coloring. On top of that, the GEN2 Blue Team armors are actually inspired by the Mark VI MOD itself, which is why they are still among my favorite armor sets (the Centurion armor set being the most obvious one, of course). Despite that the GEN2 Mark VI MOD isn’t as worn and gritty (sadly the gashed chestplate is gone too), I still love the armor because it still has the essence of the GEN1 Mark VI MOD - to show a buff-looking futuristic supersoldier from the 26th century who was also still human.

Continuing on the subject of Halo 5 armors, Halo 5 has a lot of amazing looking armors, namely the Centurion (Fred’s armor, which is actually a better, more Roman-like Mark VI MOD), Scout, Helioskrill (who could ever go wrong with this?), Mark IV GEN1, Achilles, Deadeye, Recon, Recruit (the variants are the better versions), and many of the Reach armors that were recreated (Vigilant, Indomitable, Wrath). I will say that it did have some silly or otherwise atrocious-looking armor sets, such as the Seeker (a meme), Tracer, Timmy, and a few more whose names I have forgotten.

Fast forward to the Halo Infinite era, and look what we have now. An awfully boring, archaic, overhyped, and lifeless art style that relies way too much on nostalgia, fanservice, and anime influences. The Spartans in Infinite look so anorexic now, the weapons and vehicles just look so uninspiring to look at (especially with the fact that the weapon and vehicle sandboxes are practically dead), and please do NOT even get me started on the cat ears before I want to vomit! The only real reason for the change is to appease the Bungie fanboys and completely ignore the more serious issues at hand (e.g. the story, although I personally no longer care for it anyway).

So Chief’s armor in Infinite is a GEN3 Mark VI, which isn’t bad on its own, but it takes way too much influence from Halo Legends and Halo 3. Not only that, it doesn’t even look buff anymore, completely betraying an overarching premise of the story - Chief’s humanity. What happened to all the unique individual shapes on the armor? What happened to buff-looking Spartans? Worse, the rest of Blue Team was given this treatment, and the result is a massive downgrade which is an EXTREME insult at worst.

On the topic of Fred’s armor, it is the GEN3 Cohort, which resembles the Mark IV/VI-like Commando from Halo Legends. My my my, it IS the epitome of hideous. It’s also way too blocky, and the helmet just reminds me of the time when Batman’s chin was shaped like a cereal box. Which only makes the whole armor set even worse. The GEN2 Centurion armor set is way better than this because not only does it make Fred look buff and tough, it still makes him look human and also reflects on his great leadership. Plus, it looks way more unique than the GEN3 Cohort armor too!

Kelly’s armor is the GEN3 Hermes, which completely defeats the purpose of Kelly being the fastest Spartan because she now looks too bulky and blocky! If she is the fastest Spartan like they say, then she should be wearing lighter armor with less plating, and her GEN2 Hermes armor in Halo 5 did that perfectly. I also would have gone with a Reach-style EVA helmet for the Hermes armor.

Now, the GEN3 Argus worn by Linda is easily the worst of the worst. They removed all of the good parts of the GEN2 version and made the bad parts even worse. Why do we now have goggles on top of an actual visor? This not only is redundant, but downright idiotic. The GEN2 Argus helmet does not have a proper visor, so it makes sense that it has a lot of goggles and other optical equipment to compensate. Sure, those goggles on the GEN2 Argus weren’t the best, but they weren’t anywhere close to bad either. Now, just looking at GEN3 Blue Team makes me ill and angry at the same time.

343 made a fatal mistake by doing a full 180 on their own art style for H4 and H5 in favor of the awfully boring, archaic, and overhyped art style that Infinite has, which is made even worse by the fact that the cosmetics that it has are way over-the-top silly and nonsensical. This also further proves my point that 343 nowadays just keeps overcorrecting in response to their mistakes, which makes me trust them even less! Yes, Halo has always had silly cosmetics, but Halo Infinite takes the silliness way too far with the cat ears and what not, ruining its art style beyond likability. As soon as I saw the cover of the book Halo: Shadows of Reach, I boycotted the book, especially after the fact I lost interest in the story after Halo 5’s ending.

tl;dr 343 should never have discarded their own art style for H4 and H5 just because of backlash from “fans”. Their overcorrecting will only accelerate their own downfall, and Halo YouTubers will eventually have no one but themselves to blame for this.

You lie! Halo Infinite Spartans look like Power Ranger beta males! You have never even seen the cat ears and all of the coatings.

I’d like to see toxic nostalgia-blinded fans like you shelved away.

I don’t wanna hear you calling people toxic when you pretty much were Toxic towards players last year who wore a certain Armor you don’t like

So we gonna ignore the Olive & Timmy helmet?

Oh did I forget about the Unicorn helmet as well? And including the ones with Pimples, weird foreheads & Seeker

You enjoy your Warframe esq art style while the rest of us enjoy looking like actual Spartans for a change

you want the h4/h5 art style? go play those games

is this a “literally no one” meme?

I mean, art is subjective, you don’t have to like the cat ears. But as a big fan of the Mighty Morphin, I have to say, Cat Ears don’t really look like power rangers.

I am going to respectfully disagree, frankly. I love Infinite’s artstyle to bits, and I’m glad that the ugly parts of 4 and 5 are gone.

i liked it and basing the games quality off art style alone is just wrong. A game doesnt make it or break it from art style. The art style and detail was great in those two games. Halo gamers like urself find anything to complain about, especially when the multiplayer of h4 and campaign of h5 failed the game. Not the art style lol. Halo infinites art style was according to old fans but is the biggest flop out of any halo game i have seen yet.

Woah why would you like those kina annoying artstyles?

Ew. Halo 5 literally looked like it was build out of tinker toys.

My dude, art style and graphics are completely unrelated. You can have a more “simple” art style with better graphics and vice versa. This is such a weird take.

Do you hate the art style or the “effort” they put into it? If vehicle explosions were more than a white flash and disappearing a second later, it would feel more modern, if we had more wildlife like in the reveal trailer it would feel more modern, if we had better foliage, various landscapes and state of the art water effects like in the reveal trailer it would feel current generation.
