Waited 7 hours to get into a Halo 2A 8v8 game. 343, something has to be wrong

I’ve been playing MCC since 2015 pretty regularly and I’ve played it every day since it came out on PC.

Sadly, thanks to Infinite swallowing up the community it is pretty clear that MCC is a ghost town compared to what it was pre-Infinite.

Now, if you want to queue for a Halo 3 game you can get into one right away. I for one do not like Halo 3 much at all, but I am a huge Halo 2 anniversary fan so I pretty much have always qued for those games only.

Sadly, H2A’s ques are pretty much gone. Just yesterday I started looking for a game 8v8 H2A at around 9am when I started working. I worked all day with the game quing the entire time and never got into a game the entire work day.

I even had the kids come home, get snacks for everyone, and came back to the computer and it was still qued. I finally just closed down the game and sadly did not even get one game in yesterday.

As I am typing this I’ve been qued for nearly 20 minutes and of course no game has been made.

Is it because literally, nobody is playing? I hope not. Can it be solved by closing down some servers and putting everyone on 1-2 servers?

Is MCC really dead?

Just wanted to get some 343 thoughts or community thoughts on the fact you cannot even queue for a Halo 2A game anymore.

Consolidating servers sounds like a sure fire way to piss a lot of people off. So much ruckus was made when the North East Server was down a for a little bit. If you are in a low population region and trying to queue in less popular modes I’m not sure what else can be done. You either queue at peak US hours or run the gambit of trying to find a region match.

I hear ya. I check box as many servers as I can but to no avail. I thought more people liked Halo 2A than what is clearly being shown.

Halo 3…all day. Halo 2 or 2A…ghost town.

The H2A achievements for 100 environmental kills and 100 splatter kills are currently impossible. I have all servers checked and input based mm disabled, and I simply cannot find a single game of BTB or 4v4 swat for H2A. Literally can’t progress these achievements. I’ve spent hours in queue for these game modes the last couple days and haven’t gotten into a single match. I’ve tried at all hours of the day and night. I find it very hard to believe that no one in the entire world is playing these game modes. Something is clearly wrong with H2A matchmaking. I’ve had this exact same problem with H2A specifically every time I’ve tried over the last year or so. I only have a single splatter kill because of this. That’s how few H2A games I’m finding. They need to unrestrict these achievements and make them doable in any game, or fix H2A mm.

100% agree with you. Since my initial post I have literally left the game in queue all day every day for an entire week and never once gotten into a H2A big team battle. I am not making that up. Literally qued for a week and not a damn thing.

I feel like you are right something has happened. It feels like 2015 all over again. 343, if you are reading this thread can you check this out?

I verified DrunkjDEriver is right because I specifically qued for each other BTB and all of them started a game within five minutes. Halo 2 regular took the longest, but all of the other game types actually qued.

Please check this out because for me H2A is the only Halo I want to play.

I find 4v4 H2A matches in literal seconds. Never played H2A BTB but the other games have players in BTB. Are you playing on US servers or EU? Seems that the game is dead in EU. In US, with cross platform on and input restrictions off, you should be able to find BTB games in minutes. Maybe no one is playing H2A BTB because it sucks lol

That’s nuts. I find H2A SWAT in seconds. Is cross play on? Are relays turned off? Try that and also select only US region.

Common problem. Seen this type of a problem for over a year. Some people have better connections than others and population can vary based on peak times. It’s why took a break from the game since wasting hours of my time waiting for games when that time could be used for something else.

I’m deeply concerned that they may feel like the end of Halo. MCC population getting worse and playlists that normally would be fine to some degree seem dead. Looking at population it’s from 20k to barely 2-3k on Steam Charts. I seriously wish 343i would manage the IP better because this is just depressing.

Agreed. It’s 2-3K tops on Steam. That’s a dead game by any category.

Yep, all settings are as you said and I’m a week waiting for BTB. 4v4 happens in social but I’ve yet to get into a H2A ranked and its the focused ranked advertised mode this week and nothing.

Sad but true. I’m tired of 343i mis-managing the IP. It feels like it wasn’t that long ago that we were seeing 20k numbers on MCC and now Halo MCC is doing just as bad as Infinite…which is depressing since MCC is a better game than Infinite in every sense. Right now seeing Halo MCC barely at 1.6k while Halo Infinite been dropping all the way to 3k. :pensive:

I feel like unless 343i get new management this may stay as the biggest fall in Halo I’ve ever seen and I don’t know if 343i even care about their fanbase. For me it kind of feels like they’ve nuked their own IP and have no clue how to manage it. :sob:

If your matchmaking is that slow it could be a connection problem. I always do a hard reset of the Xbox before playing MCC just to be sure my connection is at its peak for the game. Also since the infinite launch you do need to have as many selections in your composer as possible if you want quick games.

Thanks for your thoughts but I am on a gaming PC.

FYI i qued all day again today and never got into a H2A BTB. That essentially means I have gone nearly a week and never gotten into the game type. Now, before someone says it is me I qued up for a Halo 3 game and boom right in.

343, you checking on this? Can you confirm nobody in the world is playing H2A and that I’m the only person queing…or is it something is wrong on your end.

If the MCC is a better game now content wise than it was when the population was 20K, is it really 343’s fault? They’ve confirmed support throughout 2022, and the mod tools will add tons of longevity to this game, it could be that the MCC’s gameplay is no longer mass appealing like Halo 3 was.

H2A is just trash, that’s why no one plays lmao If you’re dead set on playing that game, you should be able to find 4v4 matches quickly.

I don’t believe that 343i are somehow aren’t at fault. The state of MCC has been a problem for a while because of 343i’s actions or lack of. Tools has nothing to do with it. This is about population completely dying within 2-3 months and people being sick of feeling lied to. Nobody is saying that MCC should be gaining 100k on peak often. What the problem is massive amounts vanished without much explanation and Halo seems to be dying across all games making it unplayable for people that actually want to play.

Care to elaborate further? The only thing that can really come off as misleading is when 343 said they would release updates more frequently outside of the seasonal model. Other than that they have delivered 8 seasons worth of content, added FOV sliders, brought a wealth of bug fixes, and have confirmed Flood FF is on the way. There are still a number of bugs that need to be squashed and hopefully throughout 2022 we can see the MCC in an even better state.

As I said earlier, the population is more or less out of 343’s hands. Gaming trends and what not will inevitably win over Halo’s 20 year formula. Even if the MCC had a perfect launch with most of the features now present then, I doubt the numbers would be all that much different.

They literally lied about the progression in Infinite. They left MCC broken for 5 years and they have mostly abandoned MCC to focus on Infinite and yet that backfired. If 343i want MCC sales to continue then they need a team to make consistent updates and give reasons to keep playing.

A majority of the content was taken from a different team that was cancelled called Halo Online. Flood was delayed and there is no guarantee that it won’t get cancelled since it’s been several months since 343i have done anything with MCC.

Strong launch isn’t the issue. It’s the lack of support for the game. 10-20k is normal for MCC but to drop this fast to the point where both MCC and Halo Infinite is nearly dead then that’s poor management. Seriously what am I supposed to do when the franchise is at a new all time low? I can’t even find match’s anymore.

Anything going on with Infinite is irrelevant to this discussion. The game is a dumpster fire, and the MCC team is separate. It is unknown if the MCC team and Infinite team resources overlap, but I can guarantee you work on the MCC hasn’t stopped. The Infinite development update came out today, hopefully we can see the MCC update soon. I can’t find BTB games for anything but H3 anymore, but like I said I really don’t know what else can be thrown at 8 year old collection consisting of titles that are 20 to 10 years old.
