I encountered something strange today that I’d never seen in the hundreds of times I’ve played T&R. Keyes accidentally needled another marine and was literally right next to him when he exploded. This initiated the fail state and the death cam came up and Cortana said her lines. The thing is that Keyes survived the explosion. He was walking around me. Unfortunately, I wasn’t on stream when it happened and didn’t think to pause and start one.
What could have happened?
I was on normal difficulty, had eyepatch, bandana, iron, and grunt birthday skulls on. I hadn’t cheesed any of the level.
I had a thought that maybe a characters death state is programmed as < 0 and the cutscene trigger might be when Keyes health <= 0 and the explosion did exactly the right amount of damage?
I’m not a tech guy but if I recall correctly from what I was told, CE cutscenes are pre-rendered, if enemy AI or otherwise manages to disrupt the cutscene, it wouldn’t have an effect on anything featured in the cutscene once it concludes, as they’re only targeting models meant for the cutscene itself, but some exceptions happen depending on when the disruption happens & which cutscene it happens on.

Perhaps the anniversary ones? CE cutscenes always happen in engine, you can actually mess with them by leaving objects in the way or even killing chief. This also isn’t a cutscene, it’s a deathcan that zooms into Keyes as he dies, then pans out while a line of dialogue plays.

OH, Yeah if you’re not careful or something else happens to him, Keyes can die on T&R, I forgot about that
