What about halo 4??? This game is broken! 343 is starting to remind me of Activision! My beloved series is destroyed! The Mayans were right! NOOO!
Why wouldn’t it be in production?
It’s better for them to start now then later, so they can have more time to work on it.
You really think it takes the WHOLE DEV team to do patches for the current game?
If they release it in 2013 i won’t purchase it. Wait at least two years. Honestly, who’s ready for another Halo game?
Well, seeing as how they contract Certain Affinity to do the multiplayer maps, the only thing that 343i has left to do is manage playlists, and create a few patches here and there.
Sounds like a waste of time for a top-tier developer that is directly owned by Microsoft. Microsoft isn’t going to just say “Oh yeah, employees. Come on in to work and just chill for a few months until we think of starting on Halo 5. We have bean bag chairs.”
Bungie always went to work on the next halo after they finished the one before. In fact, that’s pretty much how it works for every game company, or any company that produces goods and services. Make one, then move to the next project while supporting the currently active one.

If it came out next year it would be for the next console.
You have to keep your employees working. It’s not like the entire staff is needed to work on multiplayer content. I’m sure even by the time Halo 4 went gold, they were already working on pre-production stuff for Halo 5.
Do you even understand game development? It takes 2-5 years (3, most likely in this case) to make a video game. Game production almost always starts within 3 months of the previous title’s release. So just because halo 5 started production last month, it doesn’t mean it’ll release next year. And the first few months of production involves people like the creative director, and the managers and directors of each department (art, programming, writers). Not the individual teams themselves. Most employees are either working on new content (DLC), or fixing bugs.
You do know that only a small fraction of the staff is working on Halo 4, right? The story writers, concept artists, etc. are working on Halo 5, while the multiplayer guys are focusing on Halo 4.
Honestly, it’s like this for every game company… Do you really expect half the guys to sit on their behind and wait for the multiplayer guys to finish fixing up Halo 4 before they get to start working on Halo 5? I mean, the game is going through a 3-year development cycle. Might as well get the early stages of the game started as soon as possible, right?
These posts brought to you by, kids that know nothing about anything.
Its common sense to be in production.
You know game developers don’t just sit around for a year or so when they release one game.
They usually start work on the next instantly.
There’s probably only a small portion of the staff working on Halo 4 now whilst the rest of the team are working on Halo 5.
Gotta get on that outsourcing!
Uh, you do realize that not every 343 employee will be working on Halo 5 at once? Production could mean anything; scriptwriting, casting voice/motion capture actors etc.
It’s called ‘pre-production’.
A large group of people will keep their eyes on H4, while another (smaller) group will begin working on the next title.
They have already done Halo 4 Campaign Story. Now they collect Strories for Halo 5 . Nearly every Game Company is doing it like this. Mostly because a new Game was done, they will fix it for the first 3 months and then leave it and go to Creative Mode with Future Games
i wouldnt be to alarmed, halo 5 is being created for the new console, when bungie made halo 2, they were already developing halo 3 for the xbox 360 secretly, and halo 3 was awesome, its very likely they are just starting work on halo 5 for the next console now, while other people are still going to focus on halo 4, they havnt ditched the game…although they havnt done much yet, so i am unsure
