Voting.

In all the previous Halo games, 4-16 people would get put in a match together, and then they would be given options on which map/variant to play. In 3, this came in the form of being given one choice, and choosing whether or not to veto it. In Reach, you were given three choices or the option to get another set of choices. In 4, you only have 3 choices.
Why is there no voting in Halo 5? I feel that it removed an important part of matchmaking. Let’s say I’m in Action Sack, and I really want to play Husky Raid, or Skeeball, or Prop Hunt. I have no way of knowing what I’m going to get, and I just get thrown into a match of Snowball Fight with little to no warning.
In Warzone, I want the achievement for winning a game on all 3 of the original maps, but I have absolutely 0 choice over what maps I play, so this achievement is 50% pure RNG, which is annoying, to say the least.

I’m okay with the No voting, otherwise it leaves you playing the same 3 maps over and over and over again. You can only play Valhalla or Black Out so many times in a row…

Veto method I’m okay with there is still some randomness then.

No to voting or vetoing if you ask me. All that leads to is the same maps being played over and over…

No voting,as it result in just playing one map over and over.

That’s just not true.

I used to support a veto option, but no longer feel it’s a good thing. Voting on the other hand was horrible. Having to repeatedly play on the same maps because they were popular or had some method of exploitation that some people viewed as easily was awful. There are certain maps I hope never to see again, some of which started as good maps, but I never want to play them again because of the sheer amount of times I had to play them in a row.

The current system of map rotation is probably the best direction for the series to take in that regard (at least imo.) What I would like to see is a variant of it where you never played on the same map twice in a row. So if I play strongholds on empire, the next match would be on another map no matter what.

Map Voting was horrible. It was always the same map over and over and over and once something else came up, people voted for… The same map as before. If you’re looking for variety, Map Voting is the exact opposite of what you want to be in the game. The removal of Map Voting was a huge step forward for things. It’s one feature that should remain gone, the Map Rotation feature at least gives everything a fair chance instead of playing the same few maps forever. That’s why Map Voting isn’t in Halo 5.

No to voting, yes to veto. Voting kills map variation, as the same handful of maps get picked over and over again. Veto might have this problem too a little bit, but overall I think the entire package of what veto offers is a lot better than what either voting or what we have currently.

For once I’m part of the concensus. Voting doesn’t give you control. It gives the illusion of control. And less variety. And it wastes valuable time, especially if veto is an option.

I understand your gripes, and while I heavily dislike the voting system I do think that a veto system similar to that of Halo 3’s would work. Josh Menke actually discussed it in one of his older Matchmaking Feedback Updates. Here’s what he had to say about it.

> Map Vetoes
> The community is a bit split on this one. Internally, the feeling is that it doesn’t add enough to justify the complexity. There are higher priority features we’d like to focus on instead, and it would be better to focus efforts on keeping the pool and rotation of maps enjoyable.

You can read the full article here.

He discusses it again a little later down the line. This time its a little more brief, but we get the same general idea that it doesn’t seem to be a priority at this point in time.

> Veto and or Not playing the same stuff over and over. How are the map and mode chosen?
> I’ve spoken a few times on veto, but I’ll reiterate again a little, and give more details about how we choose the map and mode.
> We don’t hate veto, but we currently feel like if we can instead prevent you from playing the same thing twice, that probably solves the majority of complaints that lead to a desire to veto.

Once again you can find the full article here.

Without the voting I feel like I’m playing the same maps over and over again…

Really? Because when I was playing games with voting, we really WERE playing the same maps over and over again. It didn’t just “feel like” it - it really was. Whenever an interesting map came up, it got out-voted in favor of the map that got played five times in a row earlier. You’ll never get Perdition, Outcast, etc in Halo 4 because it’s always going to be Exile. You’ll never get ANYTHING in MCC if Standoff comes up.

I still think there should be a Mario kart style voting system where everyone suggests a map and then it randomly picks one. Maybe each map can only be selected once so you don’t have the problem of full fire teams choosing what you play.

As others have said, voting led to repeat of maps (and I understand that’s still an issue here), however I do think vetoing could help limit those repeats so long as people show an interest in no repeats. If neither is an option then setting the algorithm to vary a little more could help out, as it stands the newer maps get picked more often since they’re newer (however it’s been months with no new maps to core modes so it gets repetitive).

I think there should definitely be a veto system where you can only veto the map the game gives you once. I usually find myself being placed in the same map with the same game mode over and over again so something like this may help imo.

I support keeping it as is. Voting / Vetoing add no value to the game.

I want just the veto. You can veto the first map and that’s it.

I’m fine with random select, tbh.

Eh they’ve been doing it anyways playing only 3 maps a time

I wouldn’t go for the voting system. I’ll rather go for the vetoing system like how Halo 3 does it.

Use to like the idea of voting until, I realise almost all my games in Halo Reach seems to be the same map twice or three times until a new map has disrupted the cycle and MCC having almost all games in BTB voted for Halo 3.

I’d have to agree with the majority of people here, I play MCC sometimes and go on BTB just to play something different, once you go into Matchmaking all you get is a selection of three choices of maps from either of the Halo game platforms. lets say one of them is Avalanche from H3 and the other two are Wreckage from H4 and Longest from HCE, about one quarter of the lobby will end-up voting for Avalanche just because it’s a fan-favourite and the majority of people enjoy it. TBH I like variety in my online games, and I despise the fact that Halo MCC has a hundred-plus maps in Matchmaking and it just seems like ten, and at the end of the day it seems like you’ve played five matches on Valhalla, seven matches on Blood Gultch and another three on Zanzibar.

Id also like to point out that these maps don’t take a few minutes to make, they take time and effort to build and construct for you, the community ( money ), and I know not every map is perfect but you got to realise the developers made this for the community ( money again ), so when I see the majority of maps not voted or played, I genually feel sorry for the developers pumping all their hard work and resources into something that’s not even used. And I am against the voting system in the Halo Franchise and I wish it shouldn’t be used any further.
