Voting should be taken out.

If there is one thing that playlists lacked it Halo Reach it was variety. The same map and gametype are selected nearly every game in some plalists - such as BTB slayer on Hemorrhage.

While the maps and gametypes that are selected at a high frequency are quite often excellent selections the lack of variation causes play to become stagnant and somewhat dull. While vetoing did not always net the desired maps to play on it did give players somewhat of an option in selecting what to play on while preserving variety in gameplay. This system was superior and should be used as the model for any future matchmaking experiences.

Voting is better. If we were using veto in Reach, we would be forced into Blue Team ARs on Sword Base many more times and it would increase the quitting.

There’s no need to revert back to a primitive system. The voting system just needs to be improved.

Delayed countdowns in custom games should be eliminated! However in MM, I think a vote system is optimal. We just need to give players more options. For example, the BTB playlist should show 5-6 maps to vote on. Perhaps you could even vote towards a preferred gametype for each map.

With respect to more variety, 343 expressed interest in creating more community created playlists, dedicated to new forge creations that would be separate from the maps on the disc.

Also, please put up a “vote” option for your post. Let’s hear what other people have to say. Or should 343 just take your word for it?

“Veto! Veto! Vetoooo!”

I can hear the little kids yelling this down the mics. To be honest, I don’t mind having voting or the veto option. I think the voting option is better probably.

Just mute them if they start to pierce your ears with dissonant high pitched frequencies.

Back to business…can anyone suggest ways to increase the effectiveness of the vote system?

1.) 5-6 map choices for BTB
2.) More Playlists = more map variety (community map playlist)
3.) Additional vote for preferred gametype
4.) Option to declare preferred maps and gametypes in each playlist (similar to preferring or blocking recent players)

anything else?

Make voting an improved Halo 3 one. Vetoing gives you a random map and game variant of your playlist. First veto, 50% of the lobby must choose to veto (Like Halo 3). Second veto, 75% of the lobby. Third veto, 100% of the lobby.

This will provide people with some choosing ability without things getting repeated too many times. I really don’t like Reaches voting system. Why? I can’t even tell you how many times I played on Caged and Asylum again, and again, and again. This is a good middle ground.

I think the real problem (so to speak) is the way the choices are presented. They make the first choice the map/gametype they want to promote, and most people just press the button without choosing.

I think the first choice should be the least popular map/gametype. After blindly making that choice a few times people might actually participate in the vote instead of just pressing the button to get started already.

The problem you are having with playing the same things over and over again are not because of the voting system it is because of the map choices. There are so many bad choices and combinations that people would rather play hemorrhage 10 times then play spire slayer/heavies or abridged or all those other trash heavies maps.

Bungie flooded BTB with all these crap maps and 343 never fixed this or added a DLC restriction which would have added a lot more variety.

I too also thought the voting system should be done away with. Especially the option “None of the above”.

Do I seriously have to sit through 3 voting tries before people get the map they want?

It should be a forced veto option. Dont like what you got? Veto it and be forced to play the next map. Otherwise players will always select their favorite maps, all day long.

It has nothing to do with the lack of playable fun maps (Which REACH did lack). It had everything to do with no matter what is happening, the community will always choose its collective favorite map, over, and over, and OVER, AND OVER!!!

Vote for gametype first then map it would help with some of the horrible gametype choices on some decent maps.

Then again flooding BTB with -Yoink- community maps doesn’t help at all abridged, rasu and the other heavies maps are pretty much terrible and don’t forget spire which just doesn’t belong in BTB with the slayer option.
