Vote to Forfeit

We’ve all had those games where it’s going so badly that it just sucks the fun right out of the match. As it stands, you can’t quit out of a match without being penalized. What about adding a vote to forfeit option in Infinite? That way when you’re losing 36-7 the team can just agree to call it and move onto the next one?

This could cause griefing. Players could run with half as many players as a full team, and just vote to forfeit to troll at the start of the game or right before you win.

This could go both ways honestly. It definitely is no fun to be getting your butt kicked and having to stay there the entire time dying constantly. On the other hand the argument for not including a surrender vote is that the games in general probably don’t take that long compared to some other games like League of Legends so even if you’re getting destroyed you won’t be there that long. I still think they should have a surrender vote option but make it so if you are on the winning team the option is simply not enabled. No one in their right mind would surrender while they are ahead in Slayer lol. I also think the vote should be unanimous or at the very least three of the four players need to agree to it. That should cut down on any potential griefing.

How do you approach the situation where 2 from your own team has quit? That is usually where I find myself wanting to forfeit. Usually I just stick it out and try to get as many kills as possible, or see how long I can survive. The worst is in objective games where the other team purposefully delays winning just to rack up the kills, thankfully this is rare, maybe because those that are still playing a 5 year old game (or older) tend to not be quite as troll-y.

Yeah people delaying the game just to farm kills are the worst. In situations where people have left your team I guess either majority wins or if everyone agrees to surrender then the vote should go through regardless.

A simple mercy rule?

Fall 25 behind on a 4 v 4 and the game ends. 20 behind if 3 v 4. 15 with 2 v 4. 10 with 1 v 4. (or whatever numbers are more appropriate).

It gets a bit silly when you have a couple of players trying to hide and protect their K:D… while the full team easily dominates the power ups and weapons.

I never quit 4 v 4 or even 3 v 4.

If we’re down to 2 v 4 and it looks hopeless… I’m out of there.

I think a 3/4 rule would ba good rule of thumb for such a feature, I also think that as other have mentioned there should be contextual limitation such as it is impossible to forfeit unless the team is down at least 20 points or 50% of the objective or something to that effect. It would be a risky feature to add but I understand the appeal because yes I hat getting stuck in 1v4 matches or matches so lopsided that the power team just farms for 20 minutes off of helpless players robbed of a good time. Perhaps there should also be a veto power for the player in first place on the losing team to avoid them getting griefed by non supporting teammates.

In general we always have to keep I mind what the most toxic in the community will do with a new feature because 90% of the time they are the reasons we cant have nice things like a forfeit option as I can only imagine how much worse the game could become if the trolls were given such a tool.

Without there being specific limitations I can see people abusing this. You’re losing and have just given up? Forfeit, see how many join you in leaving. Game ends, winning team is jipped from a win because the other team were sore losers. Sure their stats are recorded (maybe), but a lot of people play for a reason. If people can just request a forfeit, then you’re ruining a lot of peoples experiences.

A lot of thought would have to go into this and people may have to just accept some cons for the pros I suppose. Not all bases can be covered because not all players can be pleased with the decisions.

I would have thought you are still credited with a win.

A forfeit (or mercy rule) would be like tapping out in wrestling. You concede the loss. It goes down as an ‘L’ in the column.

It really depends on the developer, some that allow forfeits I believe end it in a tie.

Wow. That’s just silly.

I mean, better than a loss, but yeah.

It should, and needs to be, a big fat ‘L’. With appropriate ranking penalties.

Quadroupled for anyone that quits before hand.

I really hope Infinite ends up with a matchmaking population to make this entirely unnecessary. One-sided games usually come down to:

  • Low pop causing unbalanced games - Quitters - well just adopt the MCC rule that first two quitters on a team get penalties, anyone after that doesn’t - Smurf accounts - this is the big one which I don’t know how you can fix easily but likewise if all rewards are account locked… why would anyone bother?I also think in-game reporting from post match screen needs to happen. That would be really useful vs farmers

This will never happen. The sweats will screech that they want their punching bag back. 343i only takes their feedback when it comes to the multiplayer; we have no sway when it comes to making decisions with anything PvP.

Yeah, it definitely shouldn’t be a tie. The forfeit should still count as a loss. It shouldn’t be an automatic tie button. I also think the forfeit vote should be unanimous, like on Rocket League

Oh boy, another person calling people that enjoy competitive multiplayer “sweats”. 343 has clearly been listening to both sides for Halo Infinite whether you think so or not. Halo 5, sure that game was designed for sweats, but Infinite has been dialing back on advanced movement and other unneeded elements that hurt Halo 5 multiplayer. I am a big competitive player and I love to play Halo 2 and 3. Did Bungie only listen to the “sweats” for those games?

Maybe they could implement a system like in Destiny 2. Once you are at this dramatic landslide team score dif, it just auto forfeits the losing team. No vote.

I think what they should do is make social game modes fill in empty slots with a “join session in progress” feature while competitive matches are locked in on the teams that enter the match. If a player leaves, there should be no penalty for others to leave after x amount of time like in Overwatch. Maybe lighten the penalties for leaving social matches, too.
