Gametrailers.com is going to do a countdown of top-100 videogame trailers of all time. They are doing their own list as well as letting people vote for their favorite from 30 nominees.
Halo has two nominees: the first teaser trailer of Halo 2 and Halo 3 Announcement trailer from E3 2006.
So far both trailers are quite far behind (Halo 2: 14 votes and Halo 3: 47 votes, while Deus Ex: Human Revolution has gathered over 200 votes already), so I thought little promotion here was necessary :D.
Ofcourse you are free to vote whatever trailer you choose, but for me the most epic and best gametrailer ever is Halo 3 E3 2K6 Trailer, and I know (or atleast hope) that many here feel the same way ^^

What bothers me is that many of these people will be voting on whatever their favorite game is and not which game had the best trailer. One of the best trailers of all time(in my opinion)was the Halo 3 trailer because it sent the community into an uproar of discussion and speculation. It was beautiful and showed off the pinnacle of gaming’s graphics, new toys, and a new location. We had no idea what we were getting into. I don’t know how Deus Ex: Human Revolution has that many votes. The trailer wasn’t anything spectacular and (as much as I love Deus Ex) the new game was only sub par, is extremely over-advertised, and I don’t remember ANYONE really discussing the events of the trailer or speculating on the game.
That’s very true unfortunately =(…For me Halo 3 trailer more hyped, more excited, than any other trailer before or after…it simply made me shiver in excitment and send chills down my spine, and that’s mostly thanks to perfect “camera angels” and the amazing music of Marty O’Donnel.
And like you said, it provoked lot of speculation what was going to happen, not something that any ordinary trailer can do.
So far Halo2’s E3 reveal trainer is still my all time favourite. The gameplay is slow, the setpiece extravaganza … oh wow. And to end with my favourite Halo weapon… be ya can’t stick it!
I voted. Halo 3 had on of the best advertising campaigns I’ve ever seen. I really wish “Starry Night” was on there because honestly, THAT is this the greatest video game trailer of all time.

This. The “Starry Night” trailer gave me goosebumps like no other trailer has been able to do since. It’s still my favorite trailer of all time. How it didn’t make it on to the list is beyond me.
I mean, the 2006 e3 trailer was good too, but oh my god. I pretty much Yoink! my pants when I saw the “Starry Night” trailer. It was just incredible.

True, that was an epic trailer too…only “bad” thing about “Starry Night” trailer, it was too short ;D
But they I kinda understand that they had to narrow the list of nominees, and we should be glad that Halo is the only franchise that has two nominees… That just how great advertising campaings Halo games have had over the years.
Man! That is a pretty good list. The Mass Effect 2 trailer was epic, SW:ToR was bad -Yoink-, and the Gears of War Mad World trailer was so different at the time. But, out of all the greatness, I had to vote for the Halo 2 trailer. I’ve watched that trailer thousands of times and it still gives me goose bumps.
